Based on the information of the „The Clone Wars“ over all seasons, there are speculations Din Djarin was saved by the Death Watch during the time between Season 2 and 5 of „The Clone Wars“. Because Pre Vizla talks about the betrayal of Count Dooku towards the Death Watch. And in the flashbacks of „The Mandalorian“-season 1, Din Djarin was saved from separatist droids by mandalorians wearing the Death Watch-symbol. (Which means the split between the Death Watch and the separatists already had taken place, when Din Djarin was saved.) Why certain former Death Watch-members take their helmets off in „The Mandalorian“ and others don‘t …, is a topic you still have to explore in all the animated shows. 😉 Best Regards
31:25 Fun fact: Bo-Katan is named after the cat of Dave Filoni. Filoni‘s pet is a boogie cat. And the cat‘s name is Anne. So the name Bo-Katan is a result of … boogie cat Anne. Best Regards
Jon Favreau is Pre-Vizla if you didn't notice. Vizla's descendant is the guy who challenged Mando in the Boba Fett episode. Vizla mentioned his ancestor who was a Mandalorian and Jedi that made the dark Saber in the episode when they were first introduced in CW, easy to miss that dialogue.
Pre Vizsla only mentioned that the darksaber was stolen from the Jedi Temple. The fact, that the saber was created by one of Vizslas‘ ancestor was never brought until „Rebels“. But that‘s not really a spoiler to Jen and Holden since the story about the darksabers creation was again mentioned in „The book of Boba Fett“ which they have seen. Best Regards
When it comes to Bo-Katan, she is a part of the Death Watch at this point and she’s kinda extreme. Jen is right, she is different in The Mandalorian, and you’ll see how she became that better person over the course of this show as well as Rebels.
Tbh I think the biggest key to connecting with the clones is keeping track of who is who! For example, Fives is a critical one to keep track of from Domino squad and clones like Waxer, the team lead who was killed in the friendly fire incident in the last arc who also helped free the young girl on Ryloth, and Jesse (with the big republic symbol on his head) who helped lead when Rex was shot in the deserter episode and helped Fives and Hardcase destroy the transport in the last arc; he’s another one to keep an eye on!
Yeah whenever they watched Umbara I was surprised they couldn’t recognize Fives with how many times they said his name. Or Echo in the Citadel arc who still had the blue hand print on his armor.
Ahsoka’s face markings, like all Togruta, are genetic. They’re almost like fingerprints in that they’re unique to the person but will grow and change as they age.
The fact that, throughout the show, the clones have become SIGNIFICANTLY more beloved, developed and integral to the entire Star Wars story than how they used to be seen as just some background props in the movies just a few years ago is insanely groundbreaking in and of itself and isn't celebrated nearly enough. Dave and George seriously did such a fantastic job with all their work on the clones through all 7 seasons of TCW and all their work on TCW in general! :)
The clones weren’t in the background though. Rookies and Hidden Enemy in season 1. Kamino. Ryloth. Etc And idk I’ve always empathized with clones most because I’ve always cared a lot about veteran welfare, soldiers stories throughout history. War is one of my favorite movie genres. I’d be watching war films while everyone else was partying and getting into teenage rom coms. Caring for our Military is a cause I support more than any other.
@@Kjf365 yeah they have, Waxer died on Umbara. They already saw the attack on Kamino, 99 bought it. If they watched Waxer die, Then they sure as hell saw him and Boil help Numa, during the Ryloth Arc.
@@Kjf365 I asked that too a couple videos back. They did react to all those arcs and episodes already, which absolutely baffled me in regards to their non reaction to any of the clones.
This is the "core group" of Mandalorians that created the clan/cult Din Djarin was raised with. Bo-Katan calls him a "Child of the Watch," and this is who that's in reference to.
I love that Return of the Jedi call back where Luke salutes R2 on the sand skiff and R2 fires over his Green bladed Sabre. This time it was his Father and two best friends. They do great at Fan service in this series.
You will see more Mandalorians and Dark Saber. There's a long Mandalorian arc that goes from meeting Duchess Satine in season 2 through season 7 and you may be interested in knowing that there's a Dathomir arc that goes from that Nightsisters (and Nightbrothers) episode in season 3 through season 7. Both of those stories collide in an interesting way next season.
A lot of the best stuff from the mandalorian, comes from this series, like the darksaber, deathwatch and Bo Katan, you can say that the mandalorian wouldn’t exist without this show coming before it
This is one of my favorite arcs. The way it showcases how horrifying and awful slavery is, it really makes you realize that even though he was a slave, Anakin probably had it better than most. He got to be with his mother, and I don't think he was treated this bad. But even so, you can tell it left a mental scar on him, showing in his abandonment issues, and sheer rage towards the slavers. Gotta say, seeing him cut them down mercilessly was just kinda cathartic. Sometimes mercy is warranted.....with SLAVERS? Nah. Take em out back. Just another arc that helps you understand Anakin's POV and that's what this show did brilliantly; peel Anakin's layers back one by one so you fully understand WHY he fell, vs in the movie where it's just literally on a dime. And the best part? You can't help but see where he's coming from in distrusting the Jedi. You understand when he uses the dark side of the force. You feel sympathy vs frustration and anger towards him. Anakin in CW is a human being; and we all have our breaking point. I only wish Anakin and Obi-Wan talked about this more; that's my biggest gripe with CW. There's no post arc talks. No one really talks about Umbara, no on talked after the Zygerria mission it would've been nice to see more slice of life moments in this show of people just decompressing.
Thar Quad-Decapitation is one of my favorite ever Ahsoka moments. Course, I love seeing Jar'kai utilized properly in any star Wars stuff (two-saber fighting)
in the mandalorian, the group Din is originally with is remnants of Death Watch as Bo calls Din a "child of the watch", more will be unveiled in arcs to come.
I love the Zygerrian arc. It’s so dark! As for the one off episode you watched, I dislike Lux as a character so I forgot about this episode. So cool to be reminded about the really awesome moments in it
Another great episode. Glad you're continuing to watch this series. Show gets even better and better as it progresses so you'll continue to enjoy and will answer some questions you had in this video.
With this episode Holden and Jen are 61.02% through The Clone Wars! These are the Clone Wars Episodes of this Video (Nr. 23): Nr. |S. |Ep. |Episode Name --------------------------------------------------- 80 |4 |11 |Kidnapped 81 |4 |12 |Slaves of the Republic 82 |4 |13 |Escape from Kadavo 83 |4 |14 |A Friend In Need Day 14 of keeping an excel list of all the episodes Holden and Jen have watched and in which videos. Any suggestions are welcome ;)
not sure if you read the comments Holden but basically these are the three different kinds of Mandalorians we know as of right now in the most basic Terms. 1. Homeworld Mandalorians - Led by Satine and have moved on from their war-like ways, they're currently the most numerous during Clone Wars 2. Death Watch - Led by Pre Viszla, they're extremists that want to go back to Mandalore's old War-like Ways, they're a splinter group from Mandalorian Society: fun fact if you watch Mandalorian season 1 again, you'll see that the Mandalorians that saved Din (our Mando) is Death Watch. 3. The Watch - Not sure who leads it, but they're basically Death Watch that doubled down on their ancient traditions and not only want to become the warrior culture of old, but also follow the old traditions of not taking off their helmets. they're a group even more smaller than Death Watch. (And are also implied to be a splinter of Death Watch itself) there's technically a 4th faction but you haven't seen it yet, so I won't spoil it.
Cool note Holden, Rex is on the Forrest Moon of Endor in Return of the Jedi. He is on Han's team to blow up the shield base. He is the guy with big white old man beard. George confirms it a couple years ago. Although we know that was approved retroactively.
Ahsoka beheading 4 Mandalorians within a seconds, is proof that she didn't want to hurt mando in the Mandalorian season 2 ... She could've killed him in seconds.. The Darksaber rules change to fit the story and plot.. In general, it's for the rightful ruler of Deathwatch , only a handful of episodes that deal with the darksaber... Some of the better ones, One in particular is probably the best Single episode in all the clone wars it's actually the last time we see it in this series
As far as Pre Vizsla, Bo-Katan and Death Watch; Keep Watching! These are some of my favorite arcs due to the Mandaloriansbeing my favorite group in Star Wars.
The stand alone episode with Ahsoka has a great moment where she beheads four Deathwatch goons with one sweep! The origins of the Darksaber is gone into a bit in Rebels. Bo Katan starts off young and bad and obviously in love with Pre Vizla (leader of Deathwatch). The organization becomes more radicalized over the events coming up- which is why Djinn Jaren is forbidden from removing his helmet. Bo Katan is not with Deathwatch by the Mandalorian appearances. Her group is called the Night Owls (and you can see an owl painted on her helmet).
Hey, Holden and Jen! KIDNAPPED: A personal arc for Anakin as he confronts his past as a slave. Jedi Master Shaak Ti who oversees Kamino is TOGRUTA as is Ahsoka Tano. They are a staple alien species of Star Wars. Their homeworld is Shili but the colony of Kiros is where this episode is set. The two horns are called montrals while the descending head tails in front and back are called lekku just like with Twi'leks. The montrals are hollow structures that detect movement like ears. The sidecars on the speeder bikes were such a cool feature as was their ability to rotate 180 degrees! Aside from REX and CODY, we see: -- BOIL last seen in "Landing at Point Rain" (Season 2, Episode 5). Boil's moustache is what distinguishes him. He's fresh from the loss of WAXER on Umbara. -- KIX, the medic, last seen in the Umbara Arc. Kix has lightning shaved into his scalp fuzz. It's amazing that D'NAR is so gentle with that plump Kiros bird yet so vicious with everyone else! I kind of pitied the tactical droid who was appalled by D'Nar's betrayal of planting a bomb on him. "Sir, how could you?" Lol. Obi-Wan takes a real beating in this! It must have been so satisfying for him to crumple those commando droids into little balls so effortlessly! ANAKIN and AHSOKA work seamlessly together in this episode. Their partnership is at its peak here. I love the design of that caged BLIXUS! It's like a chitinous arthropod with cephalopod tentacles. Creepy looking thing! ANAKIN momentarily lets rage consume him when he angrily jams his lightsaber against D'Nar's throat demanding the whereabouts of the colonists! SLAVES OF THE REPUBLIC: The air is thick with sexual tension in this episode! The way Queen MIRAJ's eyes lit up when she saw Anakin would've gotten Padme's hackles up! Lol. AHSOKA looked amazing in that turquoise number but her play-acting left a lot to be desired! Ahsoka sees a side to her Master she never realized existed as he FLIRTS SHAMELESSLY with the delighted Queen! A GORGA THE HUTT cameo! He could be seen shopping in the slave market with his monocle after last appearing in "The Hunt for Ziro" (Season 3, Episode 9). The winged reptile mounts are called BREZAKs and I love the way they glide on air currents. Prime Minister ATAI MOLEC recognized Obi-Wan from the last episode when he and Dooku communicated with D'NAR while Kenobi was "negotiating". I like how Anakin has to shift gears after the Twi'lek's SUICIDE. He was appalled to be complicit in her fate yet suppresses his misgivings to turn on the charm. The music cue and salute gesture Anakin gives on the auction block deliberately mirrors the SARLACC SEQUENCE in "Return of the Jedi". The auction block battle is exciting and Anakin's defiance just makes the Queen think he's even more of the cat's meow. ANAKIN loses his cool and employs a FORCE-CHOKE on MIRAJ but like any good femme fatale she has him dead to rights! The Queen's perspective on the Jedi as slaves to a CORRUPT REPUBLIC is unerringly accurate while her philosophy of equating TRUE FREEDOM as a state of non-attachment is surprisingly very Jedi-like!
The way Slavemaster AGRUSS of Kadavo casually selects random Togruta to drop into that insanely deep crater to merely illustrate a point was monstrous! ESCAPE FROM KADAVO: An exciting climax filled with righteous rage! Perhaps SIDIOUS should have reconsidered the Queen's plan as it had some merit. Obi-Wan was in a bad bind because Togruta suffered for his every act of defiance. Without outside aid, Kenobi would have broken! MIRAJ learns a choke-out by Dooku isn't as much fun as a choke-out by Anakin! THE SECOND DUEL between Anakin and Dooku in Season 4 ends inconclusively because Anakin cuts out early but it is notable for Anakin's use of an electro-whip to which the Count takes significant umbrage as beneath his dignity! What a scowl! ANAKIN is so emotionally charged and so susceptible to flattery that he would have rescued the INFATUATED Queen even if she hadn't known Obi-Wan's whereabouts. If Padme weren't in the picture, their relationship would have been TEMPESTUOUS and INTENSE! ANAKIN takes no prisoners during the Kadavo rescue violently slicing through Zygerrians the way he normally slices his way through droids! REX impales AGRUSS with a killer line: "I am no Jedi!" The RETURN of WARTHOG of the WOLFPACK not seen since Felucia in "Holocron Heist" (Season 2, Episode 1). PLO KOON leads the gunship assault on Kadavo to rescue Kenobi after last rescuing Adi Gallia from Grievous in "Nomad Droids" (Season 4, Episode 6). The RETURN of Admiral COBURN after last being seen in "Citadel Rescue" (Season 3, Episode 20). AHSOKA's creative use of a Republic cruiser saves the Togruta captives. The feline ZYGERRIANS are a species unseen before "Clone Wars" as is their slave empire. Prior to this arc, it was assumed the Hutts were the traffickers and not just clients. Sidious aims to restore their standing through Dooku to have a supply of millions! One wonders if slave labor was employed to construct super-weapons like the Death Stars! A FRIEND IN NEED: A peace summit on Mandalore turns into a plot against Dooku and confusing matters of the heart for Ahsoka. At the summit moderated by Duchess SATINE KRYZE, the Republic representatives are: -- Senator BAIL ORGANA of Alderaan -- Senator MON MOTHMA of Chandrila -- Senator PADME AMIDALA of Naboo and two of the Confederacy representatives are: -- VOE ATELL, the green-skinned, horned female -- BEC LAWISE, the Siniteen both last seen in "Heroes on Both Sides" (Season 3, Episode 10). The RETURN of LUX BONTERI, the orphaned scion of the BONTERI DYNASTY of ONDERON! He was the stiff-necked son of Separatist Senator MINA BONTERI who agreed to put forward an olive branch to the Republic when urged by her protege PADME after they clandestinely met on the Separatist capital world RAXUS in the Senate Trilogy of Season 3. Mina was assassinated by Dooku for her pains but, before the peace effort was thwarted, Lux and Ahsoka took a shine to one another each never having met the "enemy" familiarly. . The RETURN of DEATH WATCH and the DARKSABER! The RETURN of PRE VIZSLA, the former Governor of Mandalore's moon, Concordia, and Darksaber heir last seen ALLIED to Dooku in the Mandalore Trilogy of Season 2! When I first heard Vizsla's story about his violent separation from Dooku, I thought I had missed an episode but it was just an OFF-SCREEN DEVELOPMENT. Apparently, Dooku didn't fulfill his promise of unseating Satine quickly enough for Vizsla and the two came to blows. It speaks to Vizsla's prowess that he managed to escape with just a nasty facial scar! JON FAVREAU reprises his role as the voice of Vizsla. The INTRODUCTION of BO-KATAN voiced by KATEE SACKHOFF of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Longmire"! Filoni actually conceived of Vizsla's second with Sackhoff in mind to play her and securing the participation of an actress of her visibility and with her sci-fi bonafides was quite a coup for the show! I felt terrible for the hulking battle droid as it plaintively cried, "Why?", while being used as target practice. AHSOKA'S FIRST KISS! Chief PIETER's granddaughter, TRYLA, and his people pay the ultimate price for being hospitable to the Watch who savagely lay waste to the village! ARTOO always comes through in the clutch. Too bad he had to leave his new buddies behind. ICONIC AHSOKA MOMENT: quadruple decapitation! Second epic duel with the DARKSABER: Ahsoka vs. Vizsla! LUX is not only a war orphan but a political one as well who has burned his bridges with RAXUS, CORUSCANT and the outlaws of DEATH WATCH but there is still one place where he may find refuge. Unfortunately, AHSOKA can't go with him and their parting stirs feelings in her she wasn't quite prepared for.
I’m glad you two are really enjoying the clone wars now-we all new you would in these later seasons-the arch with the slavers sticks out to me and the one off episode-I thought it was refreshing to get a one off episode that was really good after a good arch
There's definitely much more in store for you guys when it comes to making you fall in love with the clones, but at the same time, to be fair though, even to the point that you guys are at, the show has already done so, soo much for the clones than most any media has ever done for them, including the movies and books and comics. And it's not just in all these big 3-4 part arcs, there's also a lot of one off episodes and 2 parters and even specific scenes of various episodes that also do such a great job of putting the clones front and center and doing a great job of fleshing them out from the movies and making all of us fans love them so much and join them along this epic ride known as the Clone Wars. Some most notable examples highly regarded by us Clone Wars fans: Return of Clovis arc in S6, The Deserter, ARC Troopers, Umbara arc of course, 2nd Battle of Geonosis arc, Siege of Mandalore arc, Clone Cadets, Rookies, Ambush, Lair of Grievous, Cad Bane Holocron Heist arc and so much more.
The mandalorians in the live action show that say they can’t remove their helmets don’t really come up in the clone wars. But different factions of mandalorians do. The live action ones are just another sect of mandalorian people with their own beliefs and ideas of how the true mandalorian should be.
Very well explained. The Mandalorian culture is super complex, with multiple sects, and sects within those. As far as we know, the Mandos who saved Din were a sect of the Deathwatch.
@@neptunemedia8746 totally! And what the live action is giving us is something not really seen before in Star Wars lore. Most planets seem to consist of one small city and one belief system. But like our own planet with its many ideas (depending on region) mandalore is being fleshed out to show all the different religions or whatnot of the whole planetary people and how not just one prevailing idea of origin can exist in a planetary-wide peoples.
Spoilers Actually, no. The children of the watch, Din Djarin‘s sect, are descendants of the mandalorian splitter group after Maul took over the Death Watch. It had to be people from „Death Watch“ taking Din Djarin in as a child. The mandalorians, who saved Din Djarin, were wearing the symbol of Death Watch. And Din Djarin can‘t have grown up with the mandalorians following Bo-Katan after the split of the Death Watch. Because otherwise Din Djarin would have known who Bo-Katan is before meeting her in „The Mandalorian“-season 2. In the French translation it’s even more clear, because the name of the children of the watch is „les hériter de la Death Watch“. Which just means translated in english „the heirs of the Death Watch.“ Best Regards
@@Darth_Mornabin I wasn’t familiar with that. So basically after Maul took control of Death Watch a group split off and that’s the group who rescued Din?
There's more Mandalorians and better arcs with them coming up, and yes, Bo Katan becomes more honorable like she is in The Mandalorian over time. They're some of the best parts of Clone Wars and Rebels. Rebels especially will need to be a must watch before you watch the upcoming live action Ahsoka show.
29:30 As far as I'm concerned this is the most badass lighsaber move in all of Star Wars. Ahsoka is just awesome, favourite Star Wars character hands down.
I didn’t fully get into the infatuation with the clones until the later seasons, and even Bad Batch. So glad to hear you’re enjoying everything so far, it only gets better!!! Much, much better!!
1:04 youre absolutely right about there being a disconnect, and I think thats because the majority of people watched in release order, while you guys watched in chronological order. The problem with chronological is that it messes up the order of how youre introduced to characters. So you guys got the backstory of clones like Echo and FIves WAY early on in your viewing of the series, before you even knew who the characters are. Whats normally a very slow-burn progression of the characters and their growth and how much you learn about them is condensed and thrown out of order upon chronological viewing, and I think thats maybe why you guys dont love the clones quite as much. Its just another reason I hate that people tell reactors to watch the show in chronological order.
@@ehleeinn9743 Honestly, I think chronological just takes away from the impact of everyone's story arcs in general. In chronological, you have things like the Domino Squad's progression all screwed up, and you have instances like Savage Oppress being introduced, and then multiple arcs later Maul comes back, and then multiple arcs later, the follow-up Darth Maul arc. Whereas in release order, the progression of that whole story is a lot more straight-forward and linear. The whole thing plays out so much better. I really just don't understand why tf people even suggest watching in chronological order to reactors. The episodes released in Release Order because that's how it was *meant* to be watched.
These basically serve as a re-watch for me. I watched them all 2 years ago in release order. Anyway just wanted to mention that S4 is really step-up from the first 3 seasons.
the zygerrian arc is pretty underrated theres some good stuff in there i feel like it gets overlooked because of how good the arcs around it and the following seasons are
Deathwatch was first introduced quite awhile ago in the first Mandalore arc, where Obi and Duchess Satine are revealed to have a history. That arc also explains that Deathwatch is a terrorist group, and it's the first time ever on screen that we see the dark saber. I imagine it was quite a long time between you're viewing of those episodes so it's easy to forget. Pre Vizla, the guy who is charge during this time and currently wields it, is the descendent of that Mando Jedi you heard about. Hundreds of years ago during a brutal galaxy wide war between Jedi and Mandos, one Mando actually crossed both paths by becoming a Jedi, and the dark saber was his unique creation. It has no extra real power beyond being a unique lightsaber, it's power comes from it's symbolism.
Fun Fact : The Zygerrian Trilogy was an adaptation of a comic storyline by the same writer of the arc Henry Gilroy, with some help by Steven Melching to make sure continuity was up to date cause the comic was written shortly after the Clone Wars movie and Ventress was in it as well, so they had to change stuff to have everything be at the right point in the current timeline.
You get to know the death watch more in the new arcs, when you get into more mandalore stuff you understand different way of thinking of the people of that planet. The mandalorians from the series is very different
When we saw Obi-Wan all run down and not standing up for people at the beginning of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, I was reminded of this arc and how Obi-Wan wanted to help, but he couldn't because it would just make things worse. So we had seen Obi-Wan like that before. Although, here in TCW, it was a temporary situation that lasted maybe a few days, while in OBK it was a decade, so it took a little longer (and his love for the twins) for him to get his mojo back. But I also feel this arc is important because it gave Obi-Wan a tiny bit of empathy for Anakin's past. The markings on Ahsoka's face are just birthmarks, and the "headdress" is actually a part of her body. You might be thinking of the scene where Padme's headdress was seen on screen NOT on her head. "A Friend in Need" may not be a multi-episode arc, but is actually part of the bigger story of the show. The Death Watch, Bo Katan, Padme's doomed pursuit of peace, and Lux Bonteri are all things that come back several times throughout the show. It's probably a bit immature, considering how dark this episode is, but at the ending where Ahsoka says "try to change things" my brain always goes to "Call Me Maybe" because that song was still pretty popular at the time this episode came out, and Ahsoka and Lux have this cute, teenage crush thing going on.
Just a quick and neat little FYI for ya'll here: The Jedi Master (also one of the members of the Jedi Council) that you guys love so much, Plo-Koon, his clone battalion is called the "104th Battalion" / "104th Wolfpack Battalion" or just simply as "The Wolfpack." There's also a nickname that's been given to them throughout the show. If you go and look up or just look closely at some of the Wolfpack's gunships' art on their nose, you'll see some art on a few of their gunships that depicts the head of Plo-Koon and a couple of heads of some of Plo's clones and some Aurebesh written on it saying "Plo's Bros." A more informal, but fun little name for the Wolf Pack/Plo Koon's battalion! :)
This arc is one of the larger examples of palpatine behind the scenes. Putting anakin specifically on a mission that will anger him and when he gets in too deep, palpatine sends dooku to get him out
The horns and head tails on Ahsoka and other members of their species are a part of their biology, and the symbols on her face are just natural skin markings, similar to the stripes on a tiger are natural fur markings.
It seems you two are like most of us, We had a hard time with Ahsoka at the beginning but by the end of the series of CW, She is down far one of the best characters of the SW universe
I think most fans really get into the Clones more during their second rewatch. The "original ending" of the show gave us a great clone send off and then we got season 7 with an even greater send off. So when the fans go through their second rewatch we have a larger attachment to them because we have been through somethings with them by that point.
My first time through, it wasn't really until the later episodes that I fell in love with the clones. So I understand that for you both as well. Not that you'd have time for a second watch, but once you see the character arcs complete for the different clones, being able to see how they began again is more gut wrenching.
I tend to lean more towards Holden's preferences. I definitely am more intrigued when force users are involved. I had to watch clone wars a couple times in order to be able to follow the obscure clones outside of Rex and Cody and their character development
That’s fair. I have been obsessed with the clones since attack of the clones came out. When I was a kid, I memorized every single clone battalion name, trooper, and the ops they served in. War has just always been my main interest so when I got into this show as a kid, I’d look at the events through all the different campaigns and operations. Thus even to this day, the Ryloth, Geonosis and Umbara arcs still stand out.
Bo-Katarn is a warrior so she believe in what deathwatch believes in, the whole return Mandalore to their warrior past (the mandolorian wars) there is still more to come of her story in the clone wars so I wont spoil, but develops a lot throughout the animated series into the character and leader you have seen in the Mandolorian
I was already an Obi Wan fan after Ewan's portrayal and of course the classic Alec Guinness. But it's this show that made me go "yeah, I'm pretty sure Obiwan is the best Jedi we've seen on or off screen. Ahsoka's getting close, hopefully the live action series is really good
If you guys still don't enjoy the clones as much, that's totally okay too! We all have our preferences in life, nothing wrong about that! If the clones aren't your #1 favorite thing about TCW, like how they are for many maaaany (arguably most even, hehe) fans of the show, including myself, no worries!! We all love what we all love!!! I'm just glad that you guys even like the clones at ALL!! :D
31:44 To clarify the types of Mandalorians, basically, in the part clone wars era you are currently in there are two main groups. There are the Mandalorian Pacifists led by Dutchess Satine Kryze who have given up the old Mandalorian Warrior ways of violence, conquering, raiding, and being known as some of the galaxy's best warriors. Then there is Death Watch led by Pre Vizla, their Mandalore (leader) and wielder of the Dark Saber, who believe this is blasphemous. They value Mandalorian rule and culture in a more traditional sense. They preserve their warrior culture including conquering. There are other groups at this time like the Protectors of Concord Dawn, but where they lie in this is a little murky in canon. So this generally covers it for now. The Children of the Watch are a splinter cell of Mandalorians, specifically from what Death Watch became, that reverted to the old “Way of the Mandalore” which refers to a much older set of cultural traditions from the past. They are seen as heretics and zealots. A good example of this culturally would be like the Westboro Baptist Church (or any hardcore Christians) relative to modern Christianity or the Wahhabists relative to modern Sunni Islamic beliefs. They are based on the same set of fundamental beliefs, but some groups interpret them literally instead of as guidelines or metaphors or even as tales of the past when times were different to be used as history lessons.
Only two things I want to add to this comment: 1- The Mandalorian Protectors are loyal to the New Mandalorians (The pacifists) that's why they see Deathwatch as traitors, they appear on TCW, they are mostly depicted as the guys with the shields. 2- From what I understand, the children of the watch is made up of mostly ex members of Death Watch, Shadow Collective, other Mandalorian clans and the foundlings, It is a little bit blurry when it was formed, but at the very least, sometime before the purge and the "relevant events in rebels" (but probably before) and their ways allowed them to survive the purge.
@@Guaseth Yes, though it seems as though the Protectors of Concord Dawn (Fenn Rau’s faction) are something else as they dough on the side of the republic long before the battle of Mandalore and seem to have had some affiliation to Jango Fett in canon, and his legends Cuy'val Dar as it's stated they helped train at least some of the clone pilots. Again, it isn't fleshed out well. As far as the timeline of the Children of the Watch, that's still vague. My understanding is that they either survived the purge and fled, using it as justification for their new radicalization or, as you said they had already separated at some point during the empire’s rule and used the purge to justify their radicalization as they were among the few to survive. Hopefully S3 of the Mandalorian fleshes this out.
@@austinoginski9513 indeed if I'm not mistaken there's comics in which Fenn Rau's faction is either training clones or fighting alongside them. As for legends Mandos over there are a whole new monster, specially if we consider the True Mandalorians faction (I recently found out the on Boba's armor chain code the name Mereel is mentioned though) And yeah, no idea about the children of the watch, the only hints we got are Din's fllashbacks, a Viszla, the comments done by the armorer as well as her helmet but some of those could mean anything more
@@Guaseth I think the Kanan one is the only canon comic that mentions Fenn Rau, along with Rebels itself, but since the timelines don't line up for the Protectors of Concord Dawn or whatever faction of them Rau is leading to be a current Member of the Pacifists, the Death Watch, or their two main splinters in the Nite Owls or the Shadow Collective, who really knows. But it definitely appears as though the children of the watch are derivative of the Shadow Collective Mandalorians, at least some members. Who knows though? I'm looking forward to learning more.
I can't remember if we've ever gotten a proper flashback, or on screen story, about the Mandalorian Jedi who constructed the Darksaber, but iirc, the Darksaber was at the center of the Jedi/Mandalorian War... Would LOVE to see Lucasfilm make a movie or series about that story!
The sound effect of the Force Choke is just perfect. It sounds like your breath leaving your body, it’s so sinister
I love that sound effect!
One of star war's many satisfing sounds
Based on the information of the „The Clone Wars“ over all seasons, there are speculations Din Djarin was saved by the Death Watch during the time between Season 2 and 5 of „The Clone Wars“.
Because Pre Vizla talks about the betrayal of Count Dooku towards the Death Watch. And in the flashbacks of „The Mandalorian“-season 1, Din Djarin was saved from separatist droids by mandalorians wearing the Death Watch-symbol. (Which means the split between the Death Watch and the separatists already had taken place, when Din Djarin was saved.)
Why certain former Death Watch-members take their helmets off in „The Mandalorian“ and others don‘t …, is a topic you still have to explore in all the animated shows. 😉
Best Regards
Great comment, Darth!
👍👍👍👍
It wasn’t easy for me to miss when I was a kid. 🤷🏻♂️.
Love the call back to Return of the Jedi when Anakin signals to R2 and launches the lightsabers to him. Like father like son.
24:44 He force choked poggle to rescue Ahsoka in Geonosis. One of the best moments in the show
When it comes to Bo-Katan, she is a part of the Death Watch at this point and she’s kinda extreme. Jen is right, she is different in The Mandalorian, and you’ll see how she became that better person over the course of this show as well as Rebels.
Better...Sure. But not by much, I would say.
I loved the reference to return of the Jedi when Anakin saluted to r2 and he shot their lightsabers into the air, the music too 🥰
The Quad Decapitation is one of my favourite Ahsoka moments.
Ahsoka’s face markings, like all Togruta, are genetic. They’re almost like fingerprints in that they’re unique to the person but will grow and change as they age.
With as much as Holden likes the Morris Arc, he may find the lore episodes of Rebels. Some fantastic force lore and mysticism.
Morris, the cat arcs? lol
27:04 - Holden: A digital roofie.
Me: Here on Earth, sir, we call that a Taser.
The clones weren’t in the background though. Rookies and Hidden Enemy in season 1. Kamino. Ryloth. Etc
And idk I’ve always empathized with clones most because I’ve always cared a lot about veteran welfare, soldiers stories throughout history. War is one of my favorite movie genres. I’d be watching war films while everyone else was partying and getting into teenage rom coms. Caring for our Military is a cause I support more than any other.
RIP Waxer
They hadn't seen any of those at this point though right?
@@Kjf365 yeah they have, Waxer died on Umbara. They already saw the attack on Kamino, 99 bought it. If they watched Waxer die, Then they sure as hell saw him and Boil help Numa, during the Ryloth Arc.
@@brucechmiel7964 They didn't even know who 99 was though. And I was asking OP because they watched these months ago.
I need a compilation of all of Holden’s reactions to the philosophical quotes at the start of each episode
I love that Return of the Jedi call back where Luke salutes R2 on the sand skiff and R2 fires over his Green bladed Sabre. This time it was his Father and two best friends. They do great at Fan service in this series.
I like to think R2 suggested the plan to Luke. Luke probably told him that was ridiculous and R2 was all like, no it worked before.
Litterally just spoiling it.
@@remus907 ong like this guy goofy af
I've been rewatching "The Clone Wars" especially for these uploads.
Forgot how much I love this show☺
A lot of the best stuff from the mandalorian, comes from this series, like the darksaber, deathwatch and Bo Katan, you can say that the mandalorian wouldn’t exist without this show coming before it
16:53 I can‘t believe Holden didn‘t get the reference to the Sarlaac pit in „Return of the Jedi“! … 😂
7:00: He was buying time and also honoring Zygerrian “tradition” Using the Force would make it too quick
Deathwatch and the Darksaber gets heavily expanded on later in CW, but especially in Rebels

Epic
Obi-Wan's fortitude really has no match
I actually like this one.
edit: My man Boil is missing his Waxer. 😭 Also, season 4 and 5 I think are the best of the series, so it will be fun.
not sure if you read the comments Holden but basically these are the three different kinds of Mandalorians we know as of right now in the most basic Terms.
1. Homeworld Mandalorians - Led by Satine and have moved on from their war-like ways, they're currently the most numerous during Clone Wars
(And are also implied to be a splinter of Death Watch itself)
there's technically a 4th faction but you haven't seen it yet, so I won't spoil it.
KIDNAPPED:
A personal arc for Anakin as he confronts his past as a slave.
Aside from REX and CODY, we see:
-- BOIL last seen in "Landing at Point Rain" (Season 2, Episode 5).
SLAVES OF THE REPUBLIC:
The air is thick with sexual tension in this episode!
ESCAPE FROM KADAVO:
An exciting climax filled with righteous rage!
REX impales AGRUSS with a killer line: "I am no Jedi!"
The RETURN of WARTHOG of the WOLFPACK not seen since Felucia in "Holocron Heist" (Season 2, Episode 1).
A FRIEND IN NEED:
A peace summit on Mandalore turns into a plot against Dooku and confusing matters of the heart for Ahsoka.
At the summit moderated by Duchess SATINE KRYZE, the Republic representatives are:
-- Senator BAIL ORGANA of Alderaan
-- Senator MON MOTHMA of Chandrila
-- Senator PADME AMIDALA of Naboo
and two of the Confederacy representatives are:
-- VOE ATELL, the green-skinned, horned female
-- BEC LAWISE, the Siniteen
both last seen in "Heroes on Both Sides" (Season 3, Episode 10).
Anakin flirting with a slaver he hates: Your beauty would make the brightest stars look dull.
Anakin flirting with his wife: I don't like sand.
@@patrickpugh8101 I really love that. Star Wars needs to expand on planets past just one biome, city, or cultures.
Spoilers
Actually, no.
Which just means translated in english „the heirs of the Death Watch.“
Best Regards
@@Darth_Mornabin I wasn’t familiar with that. So basically after Maul took control of Death Watch a group split off and that’s the group who rescued Din?
If I understand it correctly, Mando was a child of the watch and part of Death Watch. Bo left them in season 7 ish of Clone Wars.
I do not nor will I ever see her as Honorable. If not for her Mandalor would still full of life.
These don't come out fast enough. Love watching you all start watching Clone Wars as it starts hitting its stride.
Never forget that Ahsoka and Bo-Katan's first interaction was Bo slapping Ahsoka on the ass.
I love that your and Jen's "oooohhhhhhhh" are now synchronized when juicy stuff happens
Not only did they slaver arc showcase Anakin’s inner Vader, it showed how there’s a bit of Anakin in Luke.
Plo Koon is so under appreciated as a Jedi and starfighter.
I'm binging all your clone wars reactions and its nice to be able to watch these again
Going through the Clone Wars again it’s always fun going through each arc and then rewatching these videos.
Funny how chronilogical order actually puts the clones in the background.
@@DontTakeThisSeriously616 yeah. Chono order is for ppl who seen the show a whole bunch of times already.
Anakin really rizzed up a evil domme catgirl just like that
These basically serve as a re-watch for me. I watched them all 2 years ago in release order. Anyway just wanted to mention that S4 is really step-up from the first 3 seasons.
the zygerrian arc is pretty underrated theres some good stuff in there i feel like it gets overlooked because of how good the arcs around it and the following seasons are
oh man Jen has started to do the eyes thing. She's playing with a new kind of power.
12:13
R2: *Exists*
Jen: Perfection 🤩
I can't wait for you guys to get to the Darth Maul episodes. You're going to love them.
Slaver dude was like: “Not without my burd!”
When Jen said "take that sleemo" I thought Holden was gonna say a cap "LANGUAGE!!!"
"I Would like to see more about death watch and the dark sabre"..
Ohhh, you will not be disappointed
12:18 'The roll of a master comes easy too me.'
Mace Windu: *doubt
Babe wake up. Holden just posted another clone wars video.
Bo Katan has had a bit of a complicated journey!
Putting anakin specifically on a mission that will anger him and when he gets in too deep, palpatine sends dooku to get him out
My favorite thing in the entire arc is when Rex says, "I'm no jedi."
10:13 They're doing that thing you probably shouldn't do to Yoshi in Super Mario World. You know the thing I'm talking about.
Cad Bane next and then Maul.. ooh it’s getting good!
Weirdly enough, it's because you quoted the movie that I'd like to see you guys watch Nacho Libre
My first time through, it wasn't really until the later episodes that I fell in love with the clones. So I understand that for you both as well. Not that you'd have time for a second watch, but once you see the character arcs complete for the different clones, being able to see how they began again is more gut wrenching.
I barely felt anything for the Clone either until the later seasons. Echo and Fives, and S7 ending.
My jaw dropped the first time I saw that quad decapitation from Ahsoka
That Zyggerrian dude sounds like Javier Bardem from No Country for Old Men
Also mandalorian is apart of children of the watch which have stricter rules like never removing their helmets
Lux is very lucky R2 didn't choose to fry him alive for hurting Ahsoka.
Fun fact: Plo-Koon's Clone Commander/right hand man's name, Commander Wolffe, is not traditionally spelled as "Wolf" but rather "Wolffe" instead.
I love this arc for how it shows Anakins hate and how close to the edge he can ride to the dark side.
Seeing Anakin here makes me more excited for y’all to watch the final season. A lot of fanfare
12:44 i seen a bunch of your vids and this is the first time I've understood what "Cheese and Crackers" is a sub for.

To clarify the types of Mandalorians, basically, in the part clone wars era you are currently in there are two main groups.
Only two things I want to add to this comment:
1- The Mandalorian Protectors are loyal to the New Mandalorians (The pacifists) that's why they see Deathwatch as traitors, they appear on TCW, they are mostly depicted as the guys with the shields.
As for legends Mandos over there are a whole new monster, specially if we consider the True Mandalorians faction (I recently found out the on Boba's armor chain code the name Mereel is mentioned though)
And yeah, no idea about the children of the watch, the only hints we got are Din's fllashbacks, a Viszla, the comments done by the armorer as well as her helmet but some of those could mean anything more
@@austinoginski9513 oh my bad I thought one of those comics was canon, nvm
@@Guaseth I think the Kanan one is the only canon comic that mentions Fenn Rau, along with Rebels itself, but since the timelines don't line up for the Protectors of Concord Dawn or whatever faction of them Rau is leading to be a current Member of the Pacifists, the Death Watch, or their two main splinters in the Nite Owls or the Shadow Collective, who really knows.
But it definitely appears as though the children of the watch are derivative of the Shadow Collective Mandalorians, at least some members. Who knows though? I'm looking forward to learning more.
You guys have switched over to geeking about it. You have arrived to where everyone said you'd get to.
29:59 Yeah, it‘s the prestige-symbol which makes the darksaber unique.
I see Clone Wars and I click thumbs up
I love how you handled the inconsistent pronunciation of Zygerrian
You already saw the scene with them talking about the Mandalorian Jedi. Happened when death watch was first introduced.
For Deathwatch and the darksaber this is only the beginning ....
