I saw them last night and for the third time was in awe!!! I love their voices but also their sense of humor they put into the concerts. Very funny!!! It was a great concert in a small venue and their voices were perfect. Thanks!!!
Yes! The part when they got those people from the audience on stage was hilarious. It is great to see a group such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo have such an optimistic view on life after all they've been through in South Africa.
to me these guys are the sound of africa. I got to listen to a live performance at a function near Greytown when I was at school back in the early 80 and they have struck my heartstrings ever since :-))))))) God bless SA !
LISTEN TO THE CLICKS when the Xhosa language is sung or spoken...the clicks mean something, a vowel, a character, a word, the clicks are almost impossible for a western adult to master. The muscles in our mouths and throat are fully formed. But SMALL KIDS can master the click, their mouths and throats are still forming and growing. I first heard this language 30 years ago, it fascinated me, I tried it!! No good!
+Bjr Adrian The click is something that everyone can learn. It just takes persistance, listening, and it's about the suction you form at the tip of the tongue to the hard palette that's released downwards in a hard stroke to the floor of the mouth as you throat a low or high click. Give it a couple more tries! So much fun! Peace and blessings!
Cool! :D I knew nothing about them, but I found out they're going to perform at my university... for FREE! I like what I see and will definitely go! :)
wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) wangithanda ngingamthandi (she loved me while I didn't love her) And ends with wangithanda ngaze ngamthanda (she loved me til I loved her) Being loved by someone whom you do not love and treat poorly, until in spite of yourself you fall in love with them is the take I get. I like this line: ubenza okwakhe wena ufuna ufuna enze okwakho yini na (she was doing her own thing, do you want her to do your thing )
These guys are fantastic. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live a few times. They put on a great show. I strongly recommend seeing them if you get a chance before Joseph Shabalala retires, if he hasn't already
wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) wangithanda ngingamthandi (she loved me while I didn't love her) wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) wangithanda ngimzonda (she loved me while I hated her) wangithanda ngimuhleba (she loved me while I talked behind her back) wangithanda ngimqambela amanga (she loved me while I lied) ngimbeka amabala ngamabala (saying bad things about her) wangithanda ngaze ngamthanda (she loved me til I loved her) ubenza okwakhe wena ufuna enze okwakho yini na (she was doing her own thing, do you want her to do your thing ) wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) wangithanda ngingamthandi (she loved me while I didn't love her) wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) wangithanda ngimzonda (she loved me while I hated her) wangithanda ngimuhleba (she loved me while I talked behind her back) wangithanda ngimqambela amanga (she loved me while I lied) wangithanda ngaze ngamthanda (she loved me til I loved her) luthando olunjani lolu (what kind of love is this) Yiko loko ngikuthanda (because I love you)
At first, I thought this was the beginning of their Life Saver's jingle, but alas it wasn't. Does anybody know if the jingle that was used in the Life Saver's commercials from the early 90s was from a complete song? Thanks.
@RiCeCracKer894 I know this group from Moonwalker, but never knew the name 'til today, and suddenly that part of Mean girls made total sense to me!! LOL!!!
@sunbabybull Same thing for me. There is an episode that was on Adult Swim tonight where the family sings a song by these guys. Though the song is unnamed.
Man, don't hate. So what if they do a little english here and there? It won't hurt nobody. These guys have come a long way and they just want to do their thing.
wtf, wikipedia, copy and paste, job done. Good job slick. You got a song from a Disney film. It shows an animated Africa with American accents. What do you want? Again, authentic, keep it up
so, so beautiful, yes. imagine someone saying "i wish i was african" even 50 years ago; i suppose we've come a long way. i see what you mean...and i've felt the same way many times :)
This band is wonderful. I must say, however, that this song is not "Iningi Liyabon' Ububende", which is what the subtitle says, but it is in fact "Wangithanda" (Because I Love You). Brilliant song, though!
Wangithanda umuntu ( a person loved me) Wangithanda umuntu Wangithanda ngingamthandi (she loved me while I didn't love her) Wangithanda umuntu Wangithanda ngimzonda (she loved me while I hated her) Wangithanda ngimuhleba (she loved me while I talked behind her back) Wangithanda ngimqambela amanga (she loved me while I lied) ngimbeka amabala ngamabala (saying bad things about her) Wangithanda ngaze ngamthanda (she loved me til I loved her) Ubenza okwakhe wena ufuna ufuna enze okwakho yini na? (what kind of love is this) Yiko loko ngikuthanda (because I love you) In Zulu and Xhosa, the "q" is the soft click.
Dude, maybe you need to make more research on music theory in south africa. You could be right but I feel like they do have different variations. Even great american and european bands, if you look at chords, tabs, etc. you will see that one band can be using the same chords for a whole album or at least 70% of their music. It gets old for you but I don't think they are overrated.
Chill dude, assume good faith. I don't remember the commercial Aritul is talking about, but if he says this particular song sounds similar to it, then I'm inclined to believe him.
I saw them last night and for the third time was in awe!!! I love their voices but also their sense of humor they put into the concerts. Very funny!!! It was a great concert in a small venue and their voices were perfect. Thanks!!!
They have such heavenly voices...I got chills listening to it. I love this group!
I don't understand the language but praise is universal and I feel it!
I grew up listening to ladysmith. Absolutely fantastic
beautiful beautiful music, went to see them late last yr while they were touring the uk,unforgettable experience.
Yes! The part when they got those people from the audience on stage was hilarious. It is great to see a group such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo have such an optimistic view on life after all they've been through in South Africa.

to me these guys are the sound of africa. I got to listen to a live performance at a function near Greytown when I was at school back in the early 80 and they have struck my heartstrings ever since :-)))))))

Joseph shabalala has a voice that is impossible to grammatically describe. Just like an injection, it goes straight to the blood stream without delay

Listen to those BASSES!
Bass profundo...and the vibrancy!
It's physically impossible to be depressed when listening to or watching Mambazo. Harmony personified. Upliftment embodied!
@katieemogirl You man THIS music? If you ment music in general I can assure you music definatly predates any slavery.
