Love him or hate him, he is a good man no doubt about it. He represented Georgia very well during his tenure and deserves respect for that. You can tell he is still a Dawg at heart and that means something special. I wish him well.
I hated not liking him as a coach. I always felt like he was such a good person, it made it hard to not like him. I just didnt feel like he was a good coach and seeing how good of a person he is, it was always so hard to want to move on from him

Kirby has won a playoff, sec champ, and has brought Georgia to the natty. If Kirby had those players we would already have back to back National championships. Outside of the late Bobby Bowden, Marc Richt is my favorite coach. Two words: authentic and empathetic. He never made football his god and that is the reason he is respected by most of the players who played under him. Unlike most coaches he never sold out for money or fame. I will always remember how quickly he reacted after Paul Oliver's suicide in 2013. He started a program to help former players get jobs after football. On Saturday, he better get a standing ovation. Remember, he has Parkinsons and Georgia cannot let his legacy fade away even if he eventually does.

He is dying of Parkinson’s and like Bobby Bowden did more for the university, football players lives and the program than any other coach. He left the program in 10x better shape than he found it. Kirby was set up due to the shape of the program.

Never heard of him paying players to come to UGA as other schools did, and he talked to the players about the Lord wanting them to have a future in heaven after football! My daughter was a student athletic trainer while mark r was the coach. She said he was fantastic and really cared about his players. She said the same thing about his wife. I had the chance to meet the both of them at the banquet after the season and it’s something i will always treasure.

I remember seeing Mark richt at Prince Avenue Christian School in Athens, he had an adopted daughter from Russia. And I was like there is the Georgia coach
Mark laid a foundation right on top of the one that was made by Vince Dooley. He has been an integral part of building the Georgia football program.... building good men from a Judeo-Christian heritage that was given to us by our forefathers and we should not let that die. It is what makes our educational institutions strong and America strong. The foundation is built from the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and that is what Mark Richt preached while being the head coach and building men in truth is a great part of what life is about. Those men will remember those times and probably shed some tears remembering those good times together.
