I saw an interview w/her & she's recovered. She said she had to surrender fully to God & face her past & the sexual abuse by her father & that he apologized to her before he died. She looks very well & at last count had 15 grandchildren from their mid-20s to toddlers. She is Blessed to still be here. There's video of her performing w/one of her brothers in her later years after her recovery. Praise God!
"Stay With Me" by Debarge was also heavily sampled. I love her voice. It's so light and innocent. I can't think of a woman with a voice like that today.

Bunny wrote this and I believe El produced it if I’m not mistaken. Idk if you’re aware but the lead singer from Switch, Bobby and Tommy from the group are their brothers. They have a VERY sad and disturbing family story, so if you ever get time bro you should check it out. A very talented family that could’ve been much bigger if it wasn’t for demons.

@@sharonadams758 Etterlene claimed that her hands were tied primarily because of the times. She stated that no one was willing to take in a black woman that had a lot of kids. She also stated that the police always took Robert’s side because he was white. Could she have done more? I believe so despite the societal challenges. I’m wondering if she ever reached out to her own family for help...

This was such a talented family. JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS ! Almost every R&B song from 1988 onward contained samples of old songs from the 60's, 70's & 80's. The rappers started with James Brown samples in the late 70's and by the early 90's, R&B started sampling. That's why when D"angelo, Erykah Badu, Maxwell and Jill Scott, hit the seen in the mid to late 90's and 2000's, they got so much respect. They came with their own creations. There were 1 or 2 remakes, but with their own productions. They called that genre Neo-Soul. It was a resurgence of PURE SOUL MUSIC.
Oooooh I see now. Neo soul. This is very interesting to learn. I didn't know what they meant by neosoul.

@jewelofaries the last 60's, all thru the 70's and 80's psychedelic drugs, cocaine and crack was everywhere in sports and entertainment. It was accepted recreationally in Studio 54 and other after parties until it became more and more deadly.

DeBarge was great group and wrote some very nice songs. Try listening to “All This Love” “I Like It” “Time Will Reveal” and “Love Me In A Special Way”. I had to sing the chorus to type that last song lol 😂 Harmony and falsettos are bananas. They are just talented. As a little girl I had the biggest crush on EL lol 😆 A few of them made solo projects or joined other groups.

Always loved Debarge. One of my favorite groups ever. Soooo much soul in their music. Could have done so much more, but happy for what we got. "A Dream" is awesome. Was pumped when they played the piano intro during the Super Bowl halftime show. I always thought their music would make for a great show on Broadway, using Debarge music exclusively.

Yes this is the original song!! That intro was used by one of the rappers. I don't recall which rapper. Love your reactions! I was in high school when this album was out!!! I graduated 1984 when Prince Purple Rain movie was in the theaters!
