I think Cher did it on purpose so the Boss would hate him and stay away from him because he didn’t want the Boss to be in trouble with his mom and everyone because of their relationship. If you watch the last scene Cher said he really wanted to hate Boss but he loved him so much instead.

Tbh, I really admire Cher for what he did. He could say he did it to distance himself but it seemed more like he wanted to save the girl who would be def fired doing something behind boss's back even with prosperity for the company. She did a good thing because Gun would never betray his friend, he let his personal feelings get in the way and it was justice for Thyme to be fired. He did everything for money, everything filthy so he deserved it.
