You called it for me! This betrayal by Kane is quite possibly the biggest betrayal by any character in the show. Bellamy May have helped kill 300 people, which I can still never get behind his or pike’s reasoning for doing that, but they weren’t “his” people. Wonkru was Kane’s people. People he had either known their whole lives or survived with in the bunker for 6 years and he sold them out to a sociopath. I think his statement that he had promised from McCreary in season 6 were retconned in to make us not judge him as harshly since we were still supposed to believe Marcus was really a “good” man and Octavia was the real evil. Kane, Clarke, and Abby knowingly chose to betray their people and side with McCreary for selfish reasons and caused the death of 400 of their people, the torture of Raven and Shaw, and the final destruction of earth. I have yet to think of a single other betrayal by the any of the characters that surpasses Kane’s level of betrayal. And it’s not even brought up in season 6. Only once by Octavia and even though every word she says is true, they frame it to where we are supposed to just see her as angry and putting Kane back into cryosleep bc of his wounds reopening. In that same scene, Kane even stares out the window at Sanctum and tells Abby that all the atrocities the two of them committed were worth it, because it justified their right to be there to find happiness on sanctum. Even after he’s resurrected and in the mess hall, it’s never mentioned and instead of facing what all he had done and not letting the guard, Gavin’s, death be for nothing, Kane floats himself in the poor guys body and it’s all seen as proof that Kane always knows what’s right and his death is meant to be noble. Vincent’s speech to Kane before attacking was the truth about season 5 Kane. He used his “conscience” as an excuse to rationalize his actions in between committing atrocious acts. Kane loves to spark a fire/mutiny/revolution and then wash his hands of the fall out and be appalled at any deaths that were consequences of his actions. He and Abby were the definition of a toxic relationship and after season 5, there was no coming back for them, especially Kane. Didn’t mean to rant, but this betrayal always gets swept under the rug just like it was on the show. Thank you for bringing this topic up!

@@mickcrump7799 to be fair to Kane, "his people" in his mind at that point were probably the defectors first and foremost (seeing as they choose to follow him) and as far as he was aware Octavia was going to execute them all if she took the valley. He also did it under the impression McCreary would accept a Wonkru surrender just like Diyoza said she would've. When he discovered that neither of those things were true (a. that McCreary was executing the defectors himself and b. that McCreary wouldn't accept a Wonkru surrender or even take prisoners) he immediatly expressed regret for it and stated he'd have to live with that regret for the rest of his life (which, given what Vinson did later in the same episode, wasn't that much longer). To a large degree I also think he likely did it on the basis of protecting Abby (both physically from Octavia and mentally from her own guilt by trying to let her deflect the blame onto Octavia). Kane thought he was picking the lesser evil and ended up being wrong (which he quickly acknowledged at least). I found his likely motivations for helping McCreary, especially given his trusting Diyoza by this point, way more reasonable and acceptable than Clarke's. Clarke had basically one reason and one reason only for doing it... Madi. Protecting one single person from Octavia by knowingly selling everyone else down the river to McCreary (who she, unlike Kane, realized was intend on killing them all... which didn't matter to her until Echo let her know Bellamy was one of them and even then she needed Madi to give her the Lexa talk). If we're going by who made the worst mistake re. dealing with McCreary, I'd say Clarke (or Abby... since her prime motive wasn't even a person but drugs). This is presumably why she takes far and away the most flack for it from the other characters at the start of Season 6.

    • @mickcrump7799
      @mickcrump7799 4 роки тому +7

Brandon Goodman thank you for taking the time to read the comments and also for your input. Let’s start with when Diyoza opened the bunker, she needed a doctor. She knew Shaw was working on overriding Raven’s control over the cryogenic chambers, which , along with obtaining a physician, is partially why she agreed to open the bunker. Once she did and saw Octavia and saw the size and strength of Wonkru, while also observing they were almost fanatical in their devotion to protecting Wonkru. That included their red queen. She takes Abby and immediately claims the valley and demands an unconditional surrender while also threatening to blow them up with her missiles. Abby demands Kane come with her and Indra helps bc Abby knows she’s guilty of a crime and has been letting Kane take the fall and they are very codependent on one another at this point. But ultimately, Diyoza was never fully in charge. She was in a constant struggle to maintain power with McCreary. Diyoza demanded unconditional surrender and left Wonkru in a desolate wasteland and also almost killed Octavia on her way out. No leader would agree to that for there people when the other side has shown that they do not keep their word, has used force against you, and threatened you with war for the only arable land left on earth. Even the defectors she takes in are shock collared and are reviewed to see how useful they would be, most likely as slave labor, which would most definitely be the case if she loses her already slippery hold of power that she has at that moment. She sends the food to start divisiveness against Wonkru. She admits it to Kane. It’s not peace or food as an offer of peace. It’s a psychological warfare tactic to sow dissent amongst Octavia and her people based on the intel she is getting from Kane. Diyoza may appear to be reasonable and to get intel on your opponent, she would promise and treat Kane very well to keep him to continue providing information. The main advantages Wonkru have are their numbers, their skills, their devotion to Wonkru, and their knowledge of the valley’s terrain. The longer Wonkru stays in Polis, the smaller these advantages get. That is why Diyoza is trying to use Kane to stall and cause Wonkru to implode from within. Kane also not in his right mind. All of Wonkru have been traumatized by their actions and what they have been through in the bunker. That is why it is even mentioned in the show why some want to defect. It is to get away from the bunker. The bunker to most, if not all, of Wonkru is a giant haunting reminder of all their worst deeds and trauma. Most rational people would not want to remain there. And before it gets thrown out there, Monty admitted that it would take a few years to make the land around Polis arable again. Once again, that takes time they absolutely do not have if they want to take the valley from this hostile force that declared war on them. Diyoza tries to shoot them with missiles and even orders for Shaw to fire them into the bunker, but he lies his way out of it. Diyoza and Kane may be having nice talks with one another but there is no real offer of peace, other than Diyoza’s initial declaration of unconditional surrender. And sure enough, Diyoza loses her hold on the prisoners when she leaves McCreary for dead and he returns. She and Kane go into hiding and McCreary takes over and executes the defectors and tortures anyone he gets. This is all happening on just one side of this war. Octavia is dealing with a war delivered to her door by her brother, food running out, morale falling, and time passing which is allowing the enemy to learn the terrain. If Diyoza was so trustworthy, then there would have been no need to take down and hack the eye in the sky. Bellamy, Monty, and Clarke all thought it needed done as well so they were all on board. Also, Gaia is running around filling Madi, Clarke, and Bellamy’s head with ideas of creating a new commander with Madi. Gaia is the one who said the time of the commanders is over and stood by Octavia and she an Indra helped mold Octavia into Bloodreina. The red queen that actually united all the clans and the last of humanity and kept them alive for 6 years. No other leader has been able to do that. You also have people such as Abby, Kane, and Jaha that also provided Octavia with “guidance” on how to get mankind through its darkest days. They all contributed to the creation of Bloodreina and what went down in the bunker. Those who lived to be freed from the bunker almost instantly, washed their hands if their parts in what happened in the bunker. Bellamy and Clarke spend the whole reason undermining Octavia, mainly bc they can’t control her and are used to calling the shots. They never tried to talk to her about why she became Bloodreina. Octavia may have done some harsh things, but she was less than 20 years old and tasked with keeping humanity alive. Whether you agree with her methods, they worked and that is why half the cast is still alive. She sold her soul to make this happen and becoming Bloodreina cost her every part of her that was left after Lincoln was killed. All of me for all of you was what replaced “I am not afraid” in her mind and she “lived” by those words bc as she admitted, she was dead inside. Because Gaia was scaring Clarke by telling her Octavia would hurt Madi bc she’s a nightblood was all bc Gaia wanted to reaffirm the purpose she once had, which was her faith as a flame keeper. I honestly don’t think Octavia ever planned to hurt Madi and Madi did not believe this either. I think she wanted to keep Madi close simply bc she knew Clarke. And Clarke proved her right. Due to all the discord amongst Wonkru emerging due to Diyoza’s war tactics, Gaia’s mission to create a new commander in Madi, Clarke’s fear of Madi being talked into taking the flame, and Bellamy making decisions that were best for him and his “family “, things start to implode. Diyoza and Kane somehow convinced Bellamy that they were in a position to offer all of Wonkru safety if they surrendered but that was not the actual truth. We know that bc we are viewers, but the characters are listening to what’s available to them and using whatever supports their opinion. I mean, she was awful,,but Clarke am Bellamy brutally murdered Cooper and then when they didn’t get the result they wanted, Bellamy poisoned Octavia. It wasn’t bc she was out of control. It was bc he and Clarke had decided they had the best idea and Octavia was not agreeable to their demands. She knew they were plotting against her and that they had had a part in murdering cooper. They had showed their hand so that was their best time to make their move, which Bellamy did (Clarke wanted to straight up just kill Octavia). When their coup gets derailed by Jackson curing Octavia and Miller stalling Indra’s ability to take over the army, Gaia and Bellamy seize the moment for one last power grab, and put the flame in Madi. They thought it was needed but Octavia had United the 13 clans and kept them that way for six years, all while not being a commander and having her abilities enhanced by an A.I., plus they are still Wonkru 125 years later. With the eye in the sky hacked, all they had to do was March and take it. In her anger, Clarke took this moment to take newly made commander, Madi, and fled to the valley where McCreary was now in power and her mom was overdosed after during all the prisoners and torturing Raven to help do it. To protect Madi, Clarke tells McCreary all she knows but the main thing is that the eye in the sky has been hacked and how to listen in on her “friends ‘“ radio frequency. Unknown to her, and with the information given to her by Monty and Bellamy that they eye in the sky is not a problem and being told by Raven, Echo, and Shaw that the defenses in the gorge are down, Octavia marches them to the gorge to enter and take the valley bc they have the numbers, skills, knowledge of the land, and as far as ALL of them are aware, including Octavia, the gorge is clear and they have a surprise attack advantage. Kane doing what he does best, up and leaves his group with Diyoza and does not tell them where he’s going. He thinks he is the savior of Wonkru and to save the, himself, and Abby, he has to do one thing above all others. And that thing is keep the human incarnation of all of his personal demons out of the valley or the world will end, and that “devil” is Octavia. So he and Clarke provide the man in charge of the army going up against everyone they know and half of the remainder of humanity all the intel they need to do to win. There is no plan for what will happen to the survivors or even themselves after the war, but for the moment Clarke and Kane have made sure they, Abby, Diyoza (as long as she has the baby inside her), and Madi are safe for the moment. Their joint betrayal allows McCreary to torture Raven and Shaw to reset the eye in the sky and listen in on the other sides radio messages. McCreary has his people retake the gorge and take Murphy, Emori, Raven, Echo, and Shaw prisoner. Kane then stands on the bridge of the ship and listens to the radio with McCreary as Wonkru enters the gorge and into a trap. I know that was long, but I had seen you had several posts that I wanted to address all at the same time. I wanted to make sure I had included everything so unless I missed something, and let me know if I have, but an out of control Octavia did not walk her people into the gorge to be massacred. If you mean she’s responsible bc she was leading the marching army, then based on a technicality, she is solely responsibility for being line leader but the massacre was not caused by her. Those lives mostly lay at the feet of Clarke and Kane. Thank you for your time and interest in this conversation and your support of this amazing show!

The biggest betrayal is the adults (Abby, Indra, Kane) abandoning Octavia in the bunker, making her shoulder the burdens of their survival alone, particularly the Dark Year. Indra even admits that was wrong, but Abby and Kane were self-righteous to the end. How in the world could Kane - knowing that Abby was the one behind everything that happened in the Dark Year - in good conscience absolve her of all responsibility and lay all of it on a broken and traumatized 19-year old girl? Of all of the horrific things that have happened on this show, this one to me is the worst, because it didn't have to happen. It didn't save anyone. It didn't protect anyone. It just purposefully and with full knowledge destroyed a vulnerable young woman and I will never, ever, forgive them for that.

You know what's interesting is that Bellamy does things that hurt Octavia (poisons her) and Clarke (puts the chip in Madi) and he ends up justified in his anger at both of them and holds a grudge when he has to face the consequences for the pain he caused. Two wrongs don't make a right, but he never apologized to either of them for what he did. Moral of the story is, when you wrong someone who has wronged you, you're gonna have to apologize and ask for forgiveness and the person who wronged you first may not take responsibility.

Bellamy poisoned Octavia under the pretense of making peace and saving Clarke. He knew Diyoza was not trustworthy and that an unconditional surrender was stupid. Diyoza has showed her hand at that point by trying to sow insurrection amongst Wonkru and by straight cup firing missles at them! If peace with Diyoza was a guarantee of safety, what was the point of hacking the eye in the sky?? Bellamy (and Clarke to an extent) are used to running things and being in charge. Once they, mainly Bellamy, saw he couldn’t influence Octavia or get her people to turn on her for his needs, he really poisoned her to help install Indra as a political puppet/proxy for him and Clarke to call the shots and do what they thought was best. It was a coup bc all their efforts to undermine Octavia behind the scenes were failing and they were going to be caught. It was a power grab, which is sad bc Bellamy risked killing his sister instead of trying to talk and understand her due to the trauma that has shaped her over 6 horrific years into a strong leader.

    Big Rant:
I hate most of the 100 characters.
Literally everyone puts the weight of the world on Clarke’s shoulders and make her deal with all their problems, but then get mad when she makes decisions they don’t agree with. First of all, Clarke was still a teenager when all this started. She was still a child, put through copious amounts of stress and trauma, and all they do is continue to bash her over and over, adding to it. Clarke puts herself in harms way, over and over again to save everyone and all they do is crap on her.
Second, is it me or is Bellamy one of the worst people on this show? Bellamy betrayed Lincoln, Octavia, and Clarke by siding with Pike. He actually SHOT Indra along with being an accomplice to the murder of 300 innocent grounders sent to help them. Not to mention the fact that he started dating the person who put a sword through his sister’s chest and threw her off a cliff who also was the same person that blew up his other girlfriend, which started the entire civil war in the ark . He shot Jaha and blamed it on Octavia by saying he did it for her. He threw away a radio, which ended in the death of 320 brothers, sisters, mother, and fathers in the culling on the ark. Bellamy tied up one of Octavia’s boyfriend for kissing Octavia and then made her feel insecure. Bellamy kidnapped and tortured Lincoln. He tried to turn Clarke in to Pike. He poisoned Octavia, tried to controlled her like a puppet, and blamed her for their mother dying. He put Maddie in danger, he gets mad at Clarke for leaving while she was trying to find peace for what she did at mount weather, and he gets mad at her for staying behind in Ton DC with her girlfriend while also putting herself at risk for helping her people. Bellamy also launched a war against the grounders with Pike, knowing that if the grounders wanted to, they could wipe out skaikru in a second. He left Octavia in the woods on a mysterious planet to die all because she went a little power hungry. Bellamy has done countless of unforgivable things and still gets forgiven, but Octavia messes up once and suddenly there’s no redemption. People ship him with Clarke, but I don’t. Like at all.
Third, I hate jasper because he was unappreciative and cried over a girl he knew for 2 minutes. He betrayed everyone by taking the chip, and he was upset with Clarke for saving her people, but failed to realize that if she didn’t, they would most likely all be killed. He also continues to make things difficult for Clarke through petty acts.
Fourth, Raven is irritating. She acts like she’s better than everyone else and makes a comment in season 6 about how she hadn’t lost her humanity like everyone else, claiming not to have done any bad things. But raven aided in the torture of Lincoln in season 1, she helped to produce several bombs, assisting in the death of countless grounders, including children. She may have been defending her self, but she has done bad things too. She also tried to convince Clarke to murder someone, and acted as if Clarke was the bad guy for granting Finn mercy. She also throws around her smartness to make everyone else feel inferior and herself feel superior. Not to mention she does crap on Clarke a lot with everyone else.
I kinda only like Octavia, Indra, Diyosa, Maddie, Lexa, Clarke, Monty, Gaya, and Harper.

-Murphy was betrayed since day one and the other ‘100’ made him need to survive (ex. Exiling him)
-Abby and Indra basically encouraged and created Bloodreina yet only Octavia was hated. Bellamy was an as to his sister yet forgave everybody else no matter what they did. He literally betrayed her and reminded her that she was no longer his sister any chance he got. He knew what she went through and never gave her a break, while Clarke has solely defended her actions with ‘I had no choice’ they both killed children yet everyone forgot that

Shamiah Oliver I know they were prisoners, but Clarke IMMEDIATELY grabbed her gun and fired the first shot. She then even shot the second man, which Madi didn’t even agree she should’ve done. So when Bellamy finds out Clarke is being held captive, he immediately threatens Diyoza with the possible murder of her own crew for Clarke’s release and to open the bunker. This all sounds good on the surface maybe but the biggest problem is that Bellamy had NO back up plan or any plan once the bunker was opened. And Diyoza mainly obliged Bellamy bc she knew there was a doctor in the bunker. So once they were all out on the surface again, Bellamy has literally brought a virtual war to Octavia and Wonkru’s front door. This is when several things happen. One is that Gaia deduces quickly that Madi is the only remaining true nightblood and despite being Bloodreina’s disciple and acting as Octavia’s advisor and personal flame keeper, she throws her own words of “the time of the commanders Is over” and her loyalty to Octavia out the window and sets out to return to the ways of the commanders, even though Octavia is the only one to TRULY unite all 13 clans. I’m not dissing Lexa, but it’s true. Another thing that happens is that Clarke and Bellamy kinda forget 6 years have passed and they are no longer in charge. Octavia is the Red Queen and she makes and has been making the decisions for the last 6 years. This really bothers Bellamy bc he hates not being in charge, so does Clarke to an extent, and they never ONCE even attempt to talk to Octavia and understand her. They also have their own agendas/families/people they are prioritizing above all others and begin openly and secretly undermining and questioning Octavia’s rule and decisions bc they either do not align with their agendas or they simply don’t agree with them, which is due to their lack of understanding what Wonkru has been through and their frustration with not being able to influence or control Octavia’s decisions. And the last thing that happens is the big one, which is Diyoza played nice and obliged Bellamy bc she was hoping for a doctor to be in that bunker. And once she got Abby, Diyoza basically made acts of war against Wonkru bc she knew they were a threat bc of numbers and she recognized they were radicalized people that would follow Octavia in full force. So she took Abby and Indra helped Kane defect as quickly as she could and he was more than willing to than face his own demons. Diyoza then threatens them with her superior weaponry and demands an unconditional surrender, which no leader in their right might would do to people who only “rescued” you bc they were being threatened and wanted something. So all this mess started with Clarke’s first shots and this mess/war was delivered to Octavia’s doorstep by Bellamy and Clarke. And after declaring war, leaving them in a desolate location, demanding unconditional surrender, Diyoza’s man attempts to kill Octavia with the sonic weapon. From that point on the war just escalated bc people were doing their own things and not communicating which resulted in Bellamy poisoning his sister to save Clarke, put Indra in charge, which she was just a political puppet for Bellamy and Clarke’s plans, Bellamy and Gaia put the flame in Madi and thus bringing back the old divided ways of the commanders. All the while Abby is torturing Raven for drugs and doing anything and everything to keep Marcus alive bc he is “ good” and Kane is selling out his entire people bc he can’t face the fact the Octavia isn’t the devil, it was Abby the whole time and he knew it and it was the only way he could rationalize forgiving Abby. Octavia had to be his scapegoat for his and Abby’s sins. Sorry for getting carried away, this season was so frustrating bc of the character’s poor choices and half of their biggest problems would have been solved if they had just had a few conversations with one another to understand each other and learn who everyone was after six years apart. Instead, Kane and Clarke sold everyone out and hundreds were slaughtered in the gorge. This is where poor communication gets you lol.

I really wish people would remember that when Murphy made the deal with Josephine that he thought Clarke was dead. And the only reason he kept it up because he was worried about Emori.
Idk that seems a little less worse than when they tried to force Luna to take the Flame.
    Or when Murphy killed Connor.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a good look but biggest betrayal?

I think violating someone's bodily autonomy to survive is a great deal cruwller than think that someone was dead and trying to avoid more people dying at the behest of bodysnatching serial killers.
      Both are selfish.

      Abby always gets a pass:
      1) Betraying her husband when Jake could have tried to warn people himself. Abby showed his recorded message anyway and got a good result. Jake was executed because of her.
      2) Abby sends Raven down to earth in an ancient pod not knowing if she’d make it. I know Abby wanted to go too, but why risk Raven?
      3) Harvesting Luna’s bone marrow like Mount Weather. I know Abby wasn’t alone but she actually did the procedure, as well as what she would have done to Emori.
      4) Being the mastermind behind the cannibalism and lethal enforcement that ended up breaking Octavia. Putting all that on her was wicked.
      5) Defecting to Shallow Valley with Diyoza to not just save Kane, but get her fix (which was definitely her motivation).
      6) Torturing Raven with a shock collar to get her fix.
      7) After all her moralizing, letting an innocent null be sacrificed to resurrect Kane.
Don’t get me wrong. Turning herself into a nightblood was brave, but Abby was no angel. Octavia, Echo and Raven get so much hate for doing less. Clarke gets a pass too in my opinion...

Abby and Kane were almost irredeemable in my eyes after season 5. Kane especially. The fact that even after his humongous betrayal of his people to Mcreary and that he admitted he knew Abby had been the brainchild of the cannibalism and how to enforce it by breaking HIS will and taking his right to choose away and forgave her but still believed Octavia to be the devil was just too much for me to understand his reasoning. And the main reason Abby told Octavia to “break” Kane was out of spite bc he took her choice away to die in Primfaya when he and Jaha gassed everyone and selected their 100 to save. They were a toxic relationship and although Abby has been hypocritical in the past, I still liked her for the most part and my feeling for the old Abby and the brief redemption with her , Raven, and Jackson is really the only reason I was upset with her death.

the thing with murphy is that he was being what everyone was at least once in the serie. Monty even said it. lets kill octavia and we dont need to fight for the valley, but this hit bellamy in his heart so no. As far as he knew clarke was dead. So he chose not to avenge her this time but to let go so others have a chance of surving. This does not remove the fact that murphy "betrayed" in a way "the friendship". But no one can judge him since in a way they all decided to hang him first in the first season. also everyone has done wrong before sooo
