Man accused of filming kids at WV pool was at center of landmark Texas case in 2011

- Before 61-year-old Ronald Thompson was arrested at Dreamland Pool in Kenova on June 18, he was charged almost 13 years ago under similar circumstances in San Antonio, Texas.
Thompson, who is from Kentucky, is in Western Regional Jail charged with child erotica after he was confronted by parents and arrested as they said he swam under children filming with a GoPro camera at Dreamland.
Back in 2011, he was arrested and charged with 26 counts of improper photography after he was accused of filming kids at SeaWorld in San Antonio. Those charges were later dismissed as a result of a constitutional challenge.

When i got back from vacation as a kid i developed my film only to discover someone somehow took pictures of me undressing with my own camera. It was extremely disturbing. I had no idea anyone was even there. It wasnt me getting naked, just taking off outer clothes to go swimming with my suit underneath, but it was still very scary and obviously meant to be erotic the way they did it. I was paranoid for a long time after that, and felt like my innocence was cut short. Ppl like him have no idea how much they hurt children by just "taking pictures" 😢

I understand that he was taking pictures of kids underwater and that is wrong and creepy but now that it’s a law that you can’t take “erotic” pictures. What does that mean? That’s scary when you have young kids and you are taking pictures of them in public under water. What then?

Yes! As a mother and grandmother I have zero interest or reason to film other people’s children. I have a ton of my own family’s kids but I have never gone anywhere alone and thought “ hhmmm I would really like to look back on images of these kids ( or people in general)”. Even when I’m appreciating the happiness of others I have offered to take photos for them on their own devices but I have never taken them on my own.

If your kid is too scantily dressed to be recorded, your kid shouldn't be in public.

A "good reason" is subjective, and arbitrary... If anyone wants to film the public, they have a right to without stating a reason. That has gone all the way to the SCOTUS.
I don't wanna be defending an obvious creep, but let's be real here... If your kids are too scantily clothed to be recorded on video, they shouldn't be appearing in public.
