I am planning on shooting a project on film and crowd funding a 35mm print just because I want to make something that AI will never be able to touch and won't be an easily imitable experience. Like seeing a painting up close in a museum rather than as a compressed jpeg on your phone.

Yeah, but I’ll tell you the honest truth; nobody will know or care that you used a 35mm print. If you’ve ever worked with them, you’ll know they’re expensive, difficult, loud, and require a specialized camera department to handle it. You’ll also know that its quality depends on how much money you’re willing to churn out. And in the end, if you don’t tell people, they won’t know. I tried it, I shot on film and on digital, which I then made look like film. Even die hard film fans thought the digital was the one shot on film. Other than the process and the feel 1% of your audience might get, there is no tangible difference.

As good as all these AI services are and as good as they might still get, they all have one problem. They eradicate the creative journey. There are services now that create entire songs by way of pushing a few buttons. But simply pushing buttons does not equal crafting, creating. Artists WANT to embark on that journey, bc it's about the journey, not the destination. For when you've completed a project, what do you do? You start the next one. Lazy people without any vision just yearning for a quick buck will never understand why artists embrace the work and the frustration that comes along with crafting.
Yep, there's a lot to be said for process. Even as an audience, we appreciate work more when we know there was a detailed, careful process behind creating it. So AI may end up deepening the divide between "content" and "art" which would be a good thing IMO.
@@StandardStoryCo the question is, who are the Ai(s) made for? And what problem are they solving? What people fail to notice is that, all those images are works that artists have already done. And I very much believe that that short film by sora has a lot of cleanups and human perfection behind it. Regardless how good the Ai is. This is my opinion

Sure, but consider how jaded the general public is nowadays about anything that even corporate-adjacent in terms of any end-product that can be deemed art. I'd wager many people go 'well, they are feeding us slop anyway, so at least this gets me more and quicker varieties of slop where at least I may like the superficial aspects'. And even with well made things I don't think the majority of people ever thinks 'man, the effort it may/must have taken to make this' more than once.
It’s worth mentioning that the Ballon Head video ended up taking longer to produce than a traditional short film would because of the amount of time they had to use to get the prompts to give them what they wanted, and then they had to do tons of post-production and VFX to get things to actually work together
Theatre isn't safe. What do you think Tiktok and social media today is all about? For paid Theatre (drama) except you mean something different like traditional theatre which is also in decline for the same reason for everyone seems to be able to put up an act right from their bedroom and go viral with one click! 😅
😮 God you people just can't understand the technology okay first of all movies will be released in theaters that are AI generated😮 because eventually you'll get to the point that no one will be able to notice or tell a movie like Doom 2 will come out every 2 weeks😮 second of all VR technology will be so advanced in the relative future it'll be like the matrix you put a f****** headset on and it will literally shoot energy into your head that transports you to other dimensions you'll be able to feel things everything and this will be multiplayer 2 why the f*** would you go to a real movie theater in a way😮 if they have this kind of stuff going on in VR
The problem with theater I have is that it is inaccessible. Unless you live in a major city theatre options are slim. And even then Los Angeles does not have nearly as much theater as New York and it is the second largest city in the country. And it is expensive to attend. At least in America. I travelled to the UK not too long ago and professional theater there is not nearly as expensive as a major US city. Theaters in the UK also get funding from the government to keep costs low. It would be a great investment for the local economy for US cities to invest in theater.
I mean, Radio didn't die, artists didn't disappear, photography is still around, each one had a boom but then started fading and being more and more narrow but they didn't disappear
Music video producer here of 10 years, my hope is that content production will become so easy with AI that less people will attempt to learn the nuances of production, hopefully making human made content more valuable for its intrinsic human value.
Interesting thought. I think people will initially embrace it as a cheap way of "creating" content. But, maybe many will get fed up with constantly seeing those faces and start looking for human imperfections, also in the protection process, as well as the look of the characters. And AI "acting" may carry on looking a bit "off" for quite some time yet. And, considering that some of the most memorable scenes in movie history was just humans improvising, this is something that AI might struggle with.
I almost have the opposite worry. I worry that the careers will be so empty that even human-art purists will just give up because they don't have any clients to buy from
AI tools that help save time from tedious tasks would be really great, but I can’t help but feel pessimistic due to the main drivers of AI seeking to replace humans rather than help them. Big studios right out the gate wanted to scan actors body’s for whatever they want and replace screenwriters - which ofc lead to the big strikes. There really needs to be accountability and transparency in the future because as of now, the goal of most AI developers are not align with artists.
I am a data scientist by day, and wannabe filmmaker by night 😅, and what most people don't understand about how machine learning works is that it's very easy to get 99% there (in this case very easy means decades, but for simpler things it takes less time) the problem is that it might be basically impossible to reach 100%. For instance Google doesn't actually index and searches 100% of the searchable internet, they search through some 99.x 9s (I don't remember the actual precision) because doing that it would mean either for indexing or searching that you might go from waiting seconds to weeks or even months!!! What does this mean? That what we're currently seeing could very well be the peak, or very very close to the peak, of what's achievable with these methods

Great vid, thanks! So I've worked in VFX in Hollywood for the last 20 years. but I am still very unsure of what Sora is actually doing. To my eye, when it looks like a complete CG scene, like the woman walking down the street, it isn't even remotely photoreal. It looks like a cut scene from a video game. And the photoreal stuff like the dogs in the snow look like an existing video they are altering in some way. Are the makers saying that Sora instantly creates meshes with UVs, rigging, textures, lighting tracking etc? Somehow I don't think so. The Yellow Balloon short looks like all preexisting video with a CG balloon placed on top of the footage. Do you have any more information on this?
It's absolutely a 2D process right now, but the technology has "figured out" a lot of how our actual 3D world works on its own just by studying so much 2D source material. That's how objects are able to pass behind other objects in Sora's videos for example. But it won't be long before Sora is capable of creating 3D information & integrating seamlessly with Blender, Unreal, etc IMO. You can already do crude motion capture from video with AI tools.
@@StandardStoryCo What I see is a LONG way off from being usable in a production environment. Being in client meetings and production suites, this tech would need to be tweakable on the most granular level. Like for the Mammoth stuff, just as an example, you would need to be able to tell the AI to have the Mammoth trip over an obstacle on a specific frame, get up after 3 seconds, strain to achieve it. Also. have it march along to a piece of music, control its facial expressions on exact beats of the director's eye, and that is just the start. What I see now is a great previs tool to get you looks, or for someone in their home to get their feet wet messing around. I think once it gets to the level where its usable on a real production, the prompts and tweaks would require someone highly specialized to guide it. For stock footage, though, I could use it right now to swap for some of the shots I did in a few Marvel movies a while back that took a team of 10 people 2 months for a three second shot That is the impressive stuff to me.
Love your perspective on AI! after constantly hearing about how scary and disruptive it's gonna be for the film world it is really refreshing to hear that we can actually use it in creative and productive ways that will improve on our films!
What a nice and optimistic approach to the subject. Hopefully AI will indeed be like you said happened in the past with digital cameras; big change, but it didn’t replace film nor the humans behind it, it just opened more possibilities for filmmakers. I like that thought 😊
What a lot of commenters here optimistically fail to realize is that within 12-24 months "the audience" won't be watching your "AI-assisted" film/music/narrative. The audience is being empowered to create any content they want, on demand. No creatives will be required, and the entire industries of film, art, writing, music, and more will be "flattened" to where everyone is both a consumer and producer of their own art. The problem being, of course, that they are not truly producers of the art (though I am positive they will deny that claim), rather, they are more like patrons, requisitioning/commissioning art from the "real" artist: AI. Exacerbating this problem is the fact that we are in a post-art epoch, where any/all art is now viewed as "content" (entertainment), which has minimized any vestige of hope that a large class of people will cling to human-created media. Nobody cares.
look ai can be a great tool as long as it's technical. However we should never let a machine make creative decisions. that is the luxury we get as humans. These ai companies can still profit a lot if the advancements on their technology allign with the artistic integrity of those who care for the arts. Let's not ask ai to stop but rather to well define its direction to a prosper future where both scientist and artist win! sorry for my broken english lol
Well stated, Kent. I like that you used scenes from "Boogie Nights" about the changes in the porno industry to illustrate your points. I agree with your conclusion. It's always been up to "copyright" holders to defend their work. Same with owners of patents.
Great video, but I'm curious how you reconcile using the generative art tools at the same time as knowing all the copyright issues and how A LOT of artists were taken advantage of. Knowing all of that since several months ago turned me of on experimenting with all those tools. The only one I kept using is the Adobe ones, because they are the company that is doing it better in those moral/legal areas (not perfect, but a lot better)
12:53 it’s not annoying. AI image and video generation is theft and it is a slap in the face to real artists. Calling it annoying is quite dismissive of what it actually is, which is stealing. It is a crime. A crime going unregulated and many people are and will suffer due to it. Really not a fan of your reductive wording here
Great video . For a micro budget sci-fi filmmaker like me whose basically broke, I don’t see it as an either or case. I plan to use it in conjunction with real actors. There’s nothing like being on set and the feeling you get seeing an actor pull off a great line. But for instance , I don’t own a drone, so I can see using Sora to give me this great drone shot over Manhattan as an opening scene and then cut to my actors. Or in a sci-fi film… having Sora create a spaceship flying towards Earth. I’ve been using generative full to turn my block into a post apocalyptic landscape for my actor to walk through in a film I’m working on. I am teaching myself Unreal Engine so that I can create cgi effects but this makes it so much easier in certain situations. I see AI working in tanget with human production though just as there are now, I’m sure we will be seeing a lot of AI only films on UA-cam. I created one myself (check my channel) using Hapier, but the lack of consist characters was a drawback . Fun to play with though
I think it'd be awesome if you could use UE5 and greenscreen etc to place your human actors into environments, and then use AI as generative fill to tweak UE5 just a bit more, then composite it all together.
Loved your take on this, and how calm and collected you were. There's tons of people taking extreme viewpoints or taking hypothetical situations to the extreme, so I enjoyed your sober take.
It will take time but it will happen. I was approached by a team to be involved in producing AI video/films. Two problems. Ai can't write a screen play. Sorry we've done the tests Ai can't produce actors with real engagement and emotion capability. Sure story boards or small clips to get your idea out. Kling is on the right track. Good upload. Glad you're straight with this
Cool dragon. The amazing visuals AI does is very useful, but you would need to get used to the programs and know what to expect. From there, you would need to write the stories around the AI vids. Many famous directors made great films actually improvising with what they had. But with AI, it could literally be mind blowing at times because the visuals could literally be one of a kind in many ways. From original characters to original worlds and original ways to tell a story. The tech is there for one to make a literal blockbuster, but the only thing holding AI back, is not the AI but the creative people using the AI.
Spot on! AI lets us all tell our stories in a much more polished and flexible way at a much higher level than before. Anyone ignoring these tools will be left behind for a few iterations, or will be appreciated for doing things the old school way.
I'm wondering if I'll be able to film in my backyard or on a greenscreen-- assuming I use professional looking lighting-- and then have AI make a generative fill BG/environment that fits my camera shot, movement, lighting, and angle. So I could literally film with actors on a greenscreen and use AI to make us on a spaceship, for instance.
An article was just released on the ballon short video.. and they had to go back and do post edits .. it’s not ready yet. But since we’re only about 5 yrs away from ai generated games.. well I’m not sure anymore. What’s going to happen. It won’t be good for us that’s for sure. Like someone mentioned we will be the creators and content consumers. Maybe everyone will have their own personal movie experience.
Here’s the thing… the best that AI is today, is the worst it will be going forward. And it is learning at a pace much faster than is humanly possible. TPTB are throwing trillions of dollars into advancing AI. We don’t even have AGI yet… and just wait until this technology is combined with quantum computing. I can all but guarantee you, this technology is going to replace most of the jobs that people want to do. It’s high time people stopped seeing AI as a new tool or technology… what we are creating is nothing short of a new species. One you understand that, you are better suited to understand the magnitude of the revolution that is taking place.

Yep, no granular control yet. These tools are already good enough to make cool things now, you just have to put a lot of work into them. I look around and I see - just as with traditional filmmaking - a lot of people who want "push button, make film now" who dont necessarily realize how much work and intent actually goes into making something like a movie, with or without AI, because they have no experience doing it. I dont think we are going to get fully generative AI films in my lifetime without a lot of human input and control...maybe never without true AGI...but we will get a lot of crap.
Was on,y just reading today how much post FX the balloon guy people had to do due to Sora not creating what they needed with any consistency, and not being able to omit either faces from a balloon head, or string from a balloon. And you can't do any scenes in which the camera transits a 3D space because there is no 3D space, just one image morphed into the next.
Ha! So misleading from the original announcements about it. Seems like once it’s available for a long while it’ll be frustrating to get anything usable out of it and they’re just showing us the cream of the crop so far

Low budget TVC’s, advertorials, and content for socials etc will diminish rapidly once Advertising suits realise they can bill their clients for a 30 sec TVC , minus production expenses, thereby increasing their net profit.

Never was worried bout AI. It's scary simply because we are astonished by it. But there is always something off by it. in all media. music , photo.....it doesn't have the human element to it. It won't have our humor, our ever-changing style, it will be a great copycat, and have this formula element to it. especially in music.
You don’t have to pay royalties to an artist if the use of their work is so modified that you can’t even tell that it was their work. DJ Shadow is a good example of this. He uses such small and edited samples that you can’t even tell where he got them, and so he doesn’t have to get clearance to use them.
Ai is a tool. It will always need experienced, knowledgeable professionals to utilize it to make anything worthwhile. Ai is a tool that is going to help professionals do twice the amount of work for a fraction of the time. Meaning more money and more time for themselves and their loved ones.
You will be able to use your self for a shot and then make ai change the apparence of your self to be anyone you want while keeping the acting ad you want it so yes we wont need to hire professional actors and you will be able to make a full motion picture pretty much seating at your desk 😅 i say in less then 5 years it will happen.
There is no future greater than 3 years time for humans involved the digital art medium. The business sector in digitally produced art and entertainment will soon follow and not need any humans as well in less than 5 years time. The future of human artistic purpose will be found in the far past, again resurrected. Think performing arts over cinema.
My take: Hollywood survives because they have money and money always able to make more money. Art will survive because AI won't likely catch up with human creativity. Event photogs/videogs will survive because no reason to AI generate a wedding/event. Commercial photography and videography might take a big hit in a couple of years...not happy about that. And I get that it's coming, we can do nothing about it...but it's infuriating that while I try to learn editing, coloring, audio, video...and some ahole "prompt artist" who didn't put in any work might be able to get similar results when the technology gets there. It might've been similar with film vs digital, but while I shoot digital, I know how to develop and blow up a negative film and I shoot analog too and respect the craft - rant off 😀

For masterful filmmaking, AI has a long ways to go. Yes. Especially as the way AI is built right now is strictly just regurgitating what already has worked so innovation is hard/impossible. But for the mediocre sludge that makes up the majority of the output? I have no illusions in saying that AI can already be replacing a lot of jobs. We are already seeing content farms utilizing AI to automate the deadness of the internet. We are already seeing it (probably) in B-roll footage. Propaganda houses will have a field day generating footage once they figure out how to break the training wheels of these tools. As long as it's "giod enough" for the masses... It's already here...
Not true. Eventually, the technology will become advanced enough to generate its own prompts and learn what makes a good movie by itself. Filmmakers will not be a part of this. Remember that every aspect of the creative process has patterns and rules that can be learned. This technology will devalue itself, ironically, by producing too many good films, making ai films unspecial.
I will never ever use AI in filmmaking for anything on-screen. AI is better used to help producers sort out financials or generate cue sheets based on people's schedules etc. ll this genertive video is interesting from a tech point of view but completely against everything that filmmaking should be about.
I've been predicting this for over 8 years. Nothing is surprising! Too tired to explain it all, but Hollywood is 99% dead within 4 years. Not entirely, but mostly. Storytelling as an artform will see a massive renewel. There will be tons of shit at first, but the cream rises to the top. This will push others to try and improve, which means not just style, but SUBSTANCE! Blah blah blah, too much to explain.
AI can do a lot of drudgery, number crunching, spell checking, smart bin organizing, blank filling, etc, that literally nobody wants to do, meaning that creatives will be able to use more time, money, resources and energy for doing the actual creative stuff. It will never be able to produce the kinds of ideas and techniques that only people like Wes Anderson, Sam Raimi, Terry Gilliam, Akira Kurosawa, Quentin Tarantino, John Woo etc. can bring to the screen.
AI will never replace narrative film making, because the level of control is simply not there. In a good motion picture, literally every frame is curated and stacked with detail. AI doesn't do that, humans do. AI will be good for B-Roll and special effects, where the content is already created and being enhanced (Vfx) OR the content is not very important (b-roll)
I think the argument that “the original artist didn’t consent to having their work used to teach AI” is a very weak one. Once you put your work out into the world, its influence is out of your control. Sampling is one thing, but, that’s not really what’s happening here.
@@pelicanpleasant550 Just as with human-made art, copyright infringement can only really be determined on a case-by-case basis. It’s not stealing or infringing on copyright… unless it is. It depends. Is the resulting work undeniably similar to another? To yours? Ok then… you have every right to sue. And you should. But are we really trying to argue that a computer can’t even look at our work for reference purposes, because that is somehow an infringement upon our copyright? If so, I’m sorry, that seems unsound and unreasonable to me. I’m a screenwriter, and a filmmaker, and I have plenty of resentment towards AI. I’m just saying, this particular argument from my fellow artists surprises me.
Guys. All you have to do is to not watch this AI crap. That's it. If no one buys a ticket to see a film like this, or clicks on AI films on streaming platforms, or rents AI crappy films, they'll have no choice but to abandon AI film altogether. It's been that way since forever. Sadly, the same people who gobble up all these repackage franchise reboots that are absolutely horrendous and keep throwing money at the studios who make them... will likely be the same idiots who will love these trashy AI films.

The Disclosure Act has alot of possibility. Requiring companies to disclose sources used to train AI or used to create AI content.

Yep, there's a lot to be said for process. Even as an audience, we appreciate work more when we know there was a detailed, careful process behind creating it. So AI may end up deepening the divide between "content" and "art" which would be a good thing IMO.

Sure, but consider how jaded the general public is nowadays about anything that even corporate-adjacent in terms of any end-product that can be deemed art. I'd wager many people go 'well, they are feeding us slop anyway, so at least this gets me more and quicker varieties of slop where at least I may like the superficial aspects'. And even with well made things I don't think the majority of people ever thinks 'man, the effort it may/must have taken to make this' more than once.
It’s worth mentioning that the Ballon Head video ended up taking longer to produce than a traditional short film would because of the amount of time they had to use to get the prompts to give them what they wanted, and then they had to do tons of post-production and VFX to get things to actually work together

😮 God you people just can't understand the technology okay first of all movies will be released in theaters that are AI generated😮 because eventually you'll get to the point that no one will be able to notice or tell a movie like Doom 2 will come out every 2 weeks😮 second of all VR technology will be so advanced in the relative future it'll be like the matrix you put a f****** headset on and it will literally shoot energy into your head that transports you to other dimensions you'll be able to feel things everything and this will be multiplayer 2 why the f*** would you go to a real movie theater in a way😮 if they have this kind of stuff going on in VR
The problem with theater I have is that it is inaccessible. Unless you live in a major city theatre options are slim. And even then Los Angeles does not have nearly as much theater as New York and it is the second largest city in the country. And it is expensive to attend. At least in America. I travelled to the UK not too long ago and professional theater there is not nearly as expensive as a major US city. Theaters in the UK also get funding from the government to keep costs low. It would be a great investment for the local economy for US cities to invest in theater.

Interesting thought. I think people will initially embrace it as a cheap way of "creating" content. But, maybe many will get fed up with constantly seeing those faces and start looking for human imperfections, also in the protection process, as well as the look of the characters. And AI "acting" may carry on looking a bit "off" for quite some time yet. And, considering that some of the most memorable scenes in movie history was just humans improvising, this is something that AI might struggle with.

AI tools that help save time from tedious tasks would be really great, but I can’t help but feel pessimistic due to the main drivers of AI seeking to replace humans rather than help them. Big studios right out the gate wanted to scan actors body’s for whatever they want and replace screenwriters - which ofc lead to the big strikes. There really needs to be accountability and transparency in the future because as of now, the goal of most AI developers are not align with artists.

I am a data scientist by day, and wannabe filmmaker by night 😅, and what most people don't understand about how machine learning works is that it's very easy to get 99% there (in this case very easy means decades, but for simpler things it takes less time) the problem is that it might be basically impossible to reach 100%. For instance Google doesn't actually index and searches 100% of the searchable internet, they search through some 99.x 9s (I don't remember the actual precision) because doing that it would mean either for indexing or searching that you might go from waiting seconds to weeks or even months!!! What does this mean? That what we're currently seeing could very well be the peak, or very very close to the peak, of what's achievable with these methods

Great vid, thanks! So I've worked in VFX in Hollywood for the last 20 years. but I am still very unsure of what Sora is actually doing. To my eye, when it looks like a complete CG scene, like the woman walking down the street, it isn't even remotely photoreal. It looks like a cut scene from a video game. And the photoreal stuff like the dogs in the snow look like an existing video they are altering in some way. Are the makers saying that Sora instantly creates meshes with UVs, rigging, textures, lighting tracking etc? Somehow I don't think so. The Yellow Balloon short looks like all preexisting video with a CG balloon placed on top of the footage. Do you have any more information on this?
It's absolutely a 2D process right now, but the technology has "figured out" a lot of how our actual 3D world works on its own just by studying so much 2D source material. That's how objects are able to pass behind other objects in Sora's videos for example. But it won't be long before Sora is capable of creating 3D information & integrating seamlessly with Blender, Unreal, etc IMO. You can already do crude motion capture from video with AI tools.
@@StandardStoryCo What I see is a LONG way off from being usable in a production environment. Being in client meetings and production suites, this tech would need to be tweakable on the most granular level. Like for the Mammoth stuff, just as an example, you would need to be able to tell the AI to have the Mammoth trip over an obstacle on a specific frame, get up after 3 seconds, strain to achieve it. Also. have it march along to a piece of music, control its facial expressions on exact beats of the director's eye, and that is just the start. What I see now is a great previs tool to get you looks, or for someone in their home to get their feet wet messing around. I think once it gets to the level where its usable on a real production, the prompts and tweaks would require someone highly specialized to guide it. For stock footage, though, I could use it right now to swap for some of the shots I did in a few Marvel movies a while back that took a team of 10 people 2 months for a three second shot That is the impressive stuff to me.

What a nice and optimistic approach to the subject. Hopefully AI will indeed be like you said happened in the past with digital cameras; big change, but it didn’t replace film nor the humans behind it, it just opened more possibilities for filmmakers. I like that thought 😊
What a lot of commenters here optimistically fail to realize is that within 12-24 months "the audience" won't be watching your "AI-assisted" film/music/narrative. The audience is being empowered to create any content they want, on demand. No creatives will be required, and the entire industries of film, art, writing, music, and more will be "flattened" to where everyone is both a consumer and producer of their own art. The problem being, of course, that they are not truly producers of the art (though I am positive they will deny that claim), rather, they are more like patrons, requisitioning/commissioning art from the "real" artist: AI. Exacerbating this problem is the fact that we are in a post-art epoch, where any/all art is now viewed as "content" (entertainment), which has minimized any vestige of hope that a large class of people will cling to human-created media. Nobody cares.
look ai can be a great tool as long as it's technical. However we should never let a machine make creative decisions. that is the luxury we get as humans. These ai companies can still profit a lot if the advancements on their technology allign with the artistic integrity of those who care for the arts. Let's not ask ai to stop but rather to well define its direction to a prosper future where both scientist and artist win!

Great video, but I'm curious how you reconcile using the generative art tools at the same time as knowing all the copyright issues and how A LOT of artists were taken advantage of. Knowing all of that since several months ago turned me of on experimenting with all those tools. The only one I kept using is the Adobe ones, because they are the company that is doing it better in those moral/legal areas (not perfect, but a lot better)

Great video . For a micro budget sci-fi filmmaker like me whose basically broke, I don’t see it as an either or case. I plan to use it in conjunction with real actors. There’s nothing like being on set and the feeling you get seeing an actor pull off a great line. But for instance , I don’t own a drone, so I can see using Sora to give me this great drone shot over Manhattan as an opening scene and then cut to my actors. Or in a sci-fi film… having Sora create a spaceship flying towards Earth. I’ve been using generative full to turn my block into a post apocalyptic landscape for my actor to walk through in a film I’m working on. I am teaching myself Unreal Engine so that I can create cgi effects but this makes it so much easier in certain situations. I see AI working in tanget with human production though just as there are now, I’m sure we will be seeing a lot of AI only films on UA-cam. I created one myself (check my channel) using Hapier, but the lack of consist characters was a drawback . Fun to play with though
I think it'd be awesome if you could use UE5 and greenscreen etc to place your human actors into environments, and then use AI as generative fill to tweak UE5 just a bit more, then composite it all together.

It will take time but it will happen. I was approached by a team to be involved in producing AI video/films. Two problems. Ai can't write a screen play. Sorry we've done the tests Ai can't produce actors with real engagement and emotion capability. Sure story boards or small clips to get your idea out. Kling is on the right track. Good upload. Cool dragon. The amazing visuals AI does is very useful, but you would need to get used to the programs and know what to expect. From there, you would need to write the stories around the AI vids. Many famous directors made great films actually improvising with what they had. But with AI, it could literally be mind blowing at times because the visuals could literally be one of a kind in many ways. From original characters to original worlds and original ways to tell a story. The tech is there for one to make a literal blockbuster, but the only thing holding AI back, is not the AI but the creative people using the AI.
Spot on! AI lets us all tell our stories in a much more polished and flexible way at a much higher level than before. Anyone ignoring these tools will be left behind for a few iterations, or will be appreciated for doing things the old school way.

AI is great for creators and audiences that only engage surface level with Media. They won't see defects if they don't care about critique.

Absolutely. I think this will be a really common use case in the near future.
An article was just released on the ballon short video.. and they had to go back and do post edits .. it’s not ready yet. But since we’re only about 5 yrs away from ai generated games.. well I’m not sure anymore. What’s going to happen. It won’t be good for us that’s for sure. Like someone mentioned we will be the creators and content consumers. Maybe everyone will have their own personal movie experience.
Here’s the thing… the best that AI is today, is the worst it will be going forward. And it is learning at a pace much faster than is humanly possible. TPTB are throwing trillions of dollars into advancing AI. We don’t even have AGI yet… and just wait until this technology is combined with quantum computing. I can all but guarantee you, this technology is going to replace most of the jobs that people want to do.
It’s high time people stopped seeing AI as a new tool or technology… what we are creating is nothing short of a new species. One you understand that, you are better suited to understand the magnitude of the revolution that is taking place.

Yep, no granular control yet. These tools are already good enough to make cool things now, you just have to put a lot of work into them. I look around and I see - just as with traditional filmmaking - a lot of people who want "push button, make film now" who dont necessarily realize how much work and intent actually goes into making something like a movie, with or without AI, because they have no experience doing it.
I dont think we are going to get fully generative AI films in my lifetime without a lot of human input and control...maybe never without true AGI...but we will get a lot of crap.
Was on,y just reading today how much post FX the balloon guy people had to do due to Sora not creating what they needed with any consistency, and not being able to omit either faces from a balloon head, or string from a balloon. And you can't do any scenes in which the camera transits a 3D space because there is no 3D space, just one image morphed into the next.
Ha! So misleading from the original announcements about it. Seems like once it’s available for a long while it’ll be frustrating to get anything usable out of it and they’re just showing us the cream of the crop so far

Never was worried bout AI. It's scary simply because we are astonished by it. But there is always something off by it. in all media. music , photo.....it doesn't have the human element to it. It won't have our humor, our ever-changing style, it will be a great copycat, and have this formula element to it. especially in music.
You don’t have to pay royalties to an artist if the use of their work is so modified that you can’t even tell that it was their work. DJ Shadow is a good example of this. He uses such small and edited samples that you can’t even tell where he got them, and so he doesn’t have to get clearance to use them.

The business sector in digitally produced art and entertainment will soon follow and not need any humans as well in less than 5 years time. And I get that it's coming, we can do nothing about it...but it's infuriating that while I try to learn editing, coloring, audio, video...and some ahole "prompt artist" who didn't put in any work might be able to get similar results when the technology gets there.

For masterful filmmaking, AI has a long ways to go. Yes. Especially as the way AI is built right now is strictly just regurgitating what already has worked so innovation is hard/impossible. But for the mediocre sludge that makes up the majority of the output? I have no illusions in saying that AI can already be replacing a lot of jobs. We are already seeing content farms utilizing AI to automate the deadness of the internet.
We are already seeing it (probably) in B-roll footage. Propaganda houses will have a field day generating footage once they figure out how to break the training wheels of these tools.
As long as it's "giod enough" for the masses... It's already here...

I will never ever use AI in filmmaking for anything on-screen. AI is better used to help producers sort out financials or generate cue sheets based on people's schedules etc. ll this genertive video is interesting from a tech point of view but completely against everything that filmmaking should be about.
I've been predicting this for over 8 years. Nothing is surprising! Too tired to explain it all, but Hollywood is 99% dead within 4 years. Not entirely, but mostly. Storytelling as an artform will see a massive renewel. There will be tons of shit at first, but the cream rises to the top. This will push others to try and improve, which means not just style, but SUBSTANCE! Blah blah blah, too much to explain.
AI can do a lot of drudgery, number crunching, spell checking, smart bin organizing, blank filling, etc, that literally nobody wants to do, meaning that creatives will be able to use more time, money, resources and energy for doing the actual creative stuff.
It will never be able to produce the kinds of ideas and techniques that only people like Wes Anderson, Sam Raimi, Terry Gilliam, Akira Kurosawa, Quentin Tarantino, John Woo etc. can bring to the screen.

AI will never replace narrative film making, because the level of control is simply not there. In a good motion picture, literally every frame is curated and stacked with detail. AI doesn't do that, humans do. AI will be good for B-Roll and special effects, where the content is already created and being enhanced (Vfx) OR the content is not very important (b-roll)

I think the argument that “the original artist didn’t consent to having their work used to teach AI” is a very weak one.
Once you put your work out into the world, its influence is out of your control. Sampling is one thing, but, that’s not really what’s happening here.

It’s not stealing or infringing on copyright… unless it is. It depends. Is the resulting work undeniably similar to another? To yours? Ok then… you have every right to sue. And you should.
But are we really trying to argue that a computer can’t even look at our work for reference purposes, because that is somehow an infringement upon our copyright? If so, I’m sorry, that seems unsound and unreasonable to me.
I’m a screenwriter, and a filmmaker, and I have plenty of resentment towards AI. I’m just saying, this particular argument from my fellow artists surprises me.
