  • The summer of 1998 in the All-Ireland hurling championship saw Clare and Offaly meeting three times in the semi-finals.
The first game finished in a draw, which sprouted a replay. In the replay, Clare were leading Offaly 1-16 to 2-10 but with 2 mins left on the clock, referee Jimmy Cooney blew the whistle to end the game. Offaly fans protested and the game was re-fixed in Semple Stadium one week later with Offaly coming out on top that time - and in the overall championship.
