- Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, featuring Alia Bhatt in the main lead has landed into legal trouble ahead of its release of Feb 25. Maharashtra MLA who is a resident of Kamathipura area of South Mumbai along with another resident have filed urgent pleas in Bombay High Court seeking removal of the name of Kamathipura area from the movie. They have said in their pleas that the use of Kamathipura in the movie is shown in a bad light and will impact the reputation of the residents of the area. Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut had mocked Alia Bhatt for portraying Gangubai Kathiawadi's character. Watch this video to know more.

If common people lives in that area then after the film they will face taunts and social embarrassment whenever they will say they belong to Kamathipura. The court should censor the name if the MLA can prove his claims.
Movie is totally waste of time..Bollywood is like dustbin in these days.. These kind of directors totally destroyed Bollywood. Noone is geeting a single oscar, international awards,only producing rubbish things. Only 1% movies we can watch no stories at all. Tollywood is better than Bollywood. Every young generation is interested in Hollywood, kdrama, tollywood etc.

High Courts should stop accepting such stupid cases or at least put it on the lowest priority. There are other cases where people have been waiting for ages and are more critical. Why should courts do film publicity and promotions?

So Kamathipura was known for something else before this movie? So they are more worried about a movie showing something that's actually true than fixing the problem? Does not making films on something make the problem go away? A perfect example of 'pretending like it doesn't exist rather than fixing it'. Then the numerous films on 'British colonialism' must have 'defamed' India and had none of them been made would we become an India which was never colonized?
If you want to rid the shame of history, instead of pretending like I didn't happen, make the present Kamathipura known for something so good that it's prestige completely overshadows the past. Stoping people from recounting uncomfortable truths are not going to wash any shame. This is no better than the British not teaching their people anything negative about their colonization, and pretending like they were saints.
