The question of being vegetarian or non vegetarian is not about religion or caste anymore. It's about preserving the eco system and the bio diversity. Just switching to electric automobile won't change anything. There is massive deforestation to raise grazing fields for cattles, there is over fishing in the oceans, there is risk of virus from wet markets etc, etc. Being a vegetarian is about being a better citizen of the world.
