413 villagers now! The math works out like so; 35 total species multipled by the number in a specific group. For squirrels, since there's 19, that's a 1 in 665 chance to find a squirrel. If you have say 2 squirrels on your island already that's 35×17 then, a 1 in 595 chance for a squirrel. Koramora explains it much better though! 🥳
Generally yes, there is a 1 in 665 chance to find any specific squirrel, but a 1 in 35 chance to find a squirrel at all. If you have 2 squirrels on your island, the chance to get a squirrel is still 1 in 35, but the chance to find a specific squirrel, that is not on your island, is 1 in 595. (Ignoring mechanics like move in queue and other circumstances like campsite villagers of course)

I wanted to restart my island but I was so lucky to get Raymond as my 7th villager, and then Marshal on a hunt so... I'm never getting rid of this island I guess? Good luck on the squirrel villagers! :D
i also recently restarted and am playing properly this time without treasure islands, etc! only a lil bit of time travel 😆 love reliving the early game so much and having your content to watch at the same time has been a nice throwback to when the game first released 🖤

I restarted my island as well. Went on 200 NMT hunt for Gonzo but I got Tammy (cub) 5 times. Marshal was my first campsite villager when I first started the game.
The fact ppl just restart their island at the same time is so funny, i'm too restart my island yesterday, i already have my dreamies n max bells in my old island with the help of treasure island, now i don't want to go to treasure island anymore cuz it's easy to burn out n get bored, i probably change my mind in the future to only take DIY recipes or stuff for decoration

Im still waiting to hunt for ione myself. But I'm waiting for Toby to leave or get her in the campsite/get her amibo card. Also I have had Caroline and peanut before. Caroline was a villager that I got as a place holder but I grew attached to her (sadly let her go for lucky) and peanut I only had for 3 months before Ankha wanted her to move. To be fair I also didn't talk to Toby so she had 2 options and she picked peanut. I think she was the villager that moved out the fastest.
