    that song at the beginning is so darn catchy.
    Sidenote, Blake Griffin and Brooke Lopez developed a 3pt shot. I don't know why people act like players pre 2000 couldn't do the same. Vince Carter became a 3pt specialist at the end of his career.
    Last point, I feel like a lot of these guys love taking the 3, because its less physical. Yet players still get injured a lot. So they play a more finesse game, take games off, have min restrictions, have far better medical care, and yet the players get injured just as much as the guys pre 2000s. hmmmm

      3 pt shot is technically the easiest shot, even tho it's deeper, because you can shoot 30 percent from 3 and be considered effective, and you don't have to battle in the lane or mid range to get a shot, you just chuck it up there with minimal effort. Even someone like LeBron, a bad 3 point shooter, his fans think he is good because his percentage is in the 30s. Most people are in the 30s cause defense is illegal in this era of the NBA. Makes it a lot easier to hit a shot when you know the defender can't get within a foot of you.

      @@IsaacMSingleton1 all facts. Me personally i was more of a football and track guy growing up. I sucked at basketball as I couldn't dribble and couldn't post. All I did was sit on the wing and shoot 3s and yet i was still effective lol.
      In any pickup game, the most out of shape overweight guys can still do good in runs if they can hit a couple of 3s in a game.

      Anytime time you eliminate a position or variety from a sport it makes it worse.
      The NBA has eliminated the center position, defense, and the point guard.
      The NFL has eliminated return specialists, onside kick specialist, the running back, the full back, and is well on their way to getting rid of linebackers as well. I imagine punters will follow.
      None of these sports has added a position or variety, only massively increased something that was already there.

    The 1980s Lakers would wear out most of these current teams by halftime running their fast break offense. When teams run their half court sets today it's typically one player dribbling the ball while four other player camp out at the three point line and on occasion cut to the basket looking for an easy layup.

    This whole 3 point shooting tactical crap is such a misnomer; it's a fabricated narrative created the league solely to make the game look prettier in an attempt to draw more casuals as core bball fans check out, except ratings continue to plummet. There's a reason 3 point run& gunn never worked all them Dantoni years until the league started changing the rules to remove defense. The bottom line is if you're playing against a team that plays solid defense, boxes out and limits you to 1 or maximum 2 shots a possession and knows how to capitalize on long misses by turning long misses into fastbreak points... you will lose every time.
    Defense is what wins chips. Period. It's just that reckless 3 pointers is now replacing defense cause the league front office has removed defense and the players are now accustomed to not playing defense.
    EDIT: and the difference between 2s and 3s is most 2s won't result in long misses that turn into fastbreaks for the other team. Maybe a few of the long 2s that miss. But most 3s that miss would certainly mean fastbreak the other way if the opponent is getting to that loose ball.

    The Spurs beat the Suns back ‘05 by literally beating the crap out of Steve Nash. They held his shirt away from the ball, they hip-checked him, just beat on him mercilessly. He was a bruised and bloody mess by the end of the series. He was guarded by Bruce Bowen, who is on the NBA’s all-time dirty players list. They knew that “as goes Nash, so go the Suns”.
    Also, Amar’e Stoudamire and Boris Diaw were suspended for game 5.

The Rockets shot way more 3s than the Warriors. 2015-16 Warriors shot 31 threes per game and so did the 2016-17 Warriors. The 2018 Rockets shot 42 threes per game. The Warriors shot 7 and 4 more 3s per game than the average those 2 seasons while the Rockets shot 10 more than the league average. Imo the Rockets were way more responsible for the 3 pt barrage than the Warriors. Both teams are responsible for it but the Rockets were more aggressive.

    "Most of today's players look scared to death of the mid-range." lmao, i haven't looked at the stats, but anecdotally Lebron is horrendous in the 4-6 feet or so in front of the 3 point line. I'm not sure I've seen him make one in years. He'll hit some of his 3-pointers while many are bricks, but just inside? Hail mary! His shot charts will show too that he's terrified of shooting here. Most of his shots of course are within 5 feet, probably a third are 3-pointers, but it's rare to see him even attempt a mid-ranger.

    When they first introduced the three point rule I'm sure everyone thought the purpose was to make the game more exciting. Team down by a handful with the clock ticking still has a chance to catch up. Last shot of the game and down by three. Now it's the preferred shot and is as common as dirt. Look at Caitlyn Clark's highlights. Almost all are three pointers. BORING!
    They should change the rules to limit this shot. Maybe only allow it in the fourth quarter or with five minutes left in the game. Or give each player a five shot limit which like the foul rule would force them to pace themselves to save it for the end when they really need the extra points. A threeper for the last shot is much more exciting than for the first shot.

    The Rockets in the early and mid 90s shot a lot of 3s- especially for that time era… that’s one reason why they had success against the Bulls during that time period. Simple fix for too many three's is create a penalty three point line that is quite further back, and cuts out the corners. You can only shoot so many three's per half and then the penalty 3pt line takes effect for the rest of the half. 3 pointers will have to be more strategic and less about just chucking them up. Basically 3 pointers have become the infield shift of baseball and baseball fixed that last year by limiting 2 players to each side. Infield shift and shooting many threes were game changers, but in both aspect have taken away the integrity of the game and made things quite boring. Baseball had more hits and exciting plays last year. So perhaps NBA also implementing emphasis on defense with the penalty 3 line you will see the rise in contested mid range shots again.

    The solution is really f'ing simple. We have so much shot data now to know that the 3-pt line is too close. The line needs to be placed where the additional risk of missing the shot is equal to or greater than the additional reward you get for hitting the shot. So the leaguewide average percentage of making a 2 pt shot should be at least 50% greater than the leaguewide average of making a 3 pt shot. So if the leaguewide average of a 2 pt shot was 51%, the 3 pt line should be placed where the leaguewide average of 3-pt shots is no more than 34%, just as example numbers. I think based off of data that I have seen, that distance is somewhere between 28-30 feet. If the NBA really cared about improving the on-court product, they would have done this years ago instead of developing nonsense like the in-season tournament that not many understood and even fewer cared about.

    • @AngryOldHoops
      @AngryOldHoops  6 місяців тому

    • @nortonmalcontent8778
      @nortonmalcontent8778 6 місяців тому

      @@AngryOldHoops Well the idea is that 3 point shots will be disincentivized to be reserved for only the truly elite shooters or in desperate situations where you need to make up a big deficit. Otherwise, the smart play is to try and find a quality 2-pt shot as teams will have more points per possession focusing on 2-pt shots instead of 3-pt shots, kind of like how it was back in the 80s. I mean what would a coach do if you passed up a 15 foot shot to swing it out for a low percentage 30 foot shot? The other alternative is to just get rid of the 3-pt shot entirely.

Park them under the basket for high% shots since nobody bothers to guard the lane anymore, and score at will.Let em get fouled. get 3 the old way.. Let Curry bomb away from 3 cause I guarantee most games he isnt going to shoot 70% from that range.. Think modern day Wilt with Larry Bird accuracy from the line. While I'm not a fan of some of the rule changes(hand checking, Euro step/gather step, or zone), the lack of consistency is really detrimental. Obviously the refs will miss some foul calls occasionally, which isn't new. The lack of physicality also doesn't help. However, the flopping which consistently happens now is so ridiculous and cringe that it really does make the game unwatchable. Much like grown men cheating in sports is sad, flopping is pathetic and a very poor character trait.

    It´s not really the 3pt shot that ruined the game, it´s all the rules that make that shot be so easy to take.
    Let´s not go to Mikes 7sec offense, but say a team uses 10sec on the clock, shoots 100 3s and hits 40% of those = 120pts. To catch up to that with 2pts you need to shoot 60% of the same amount of shots, all things being equal.
    You remove the Freedom of movement, without even adding back normal old skool defense and that 10sec clock now is 12-13...which makes those 120pts drop to 100. And then add more physical D, hand in face, contested 3s...
