- It was to be a day of frustration for the defending Premier League champions.
Wolves had played well in a number of games without luck this season, but today they rode their luck - as well as playing out of their skin.
Pedro Neto's cross was turned past Ederson by Ruben Dias in the first-half as City struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
With so many key players missing, the Blues were far from their fluent best but still kept plugging away until Julian Alvarez levelled with a superb free-kick.
However, it was Wolves who grabbed the third goal of the game when Hee-chan - who many felt should have been dismissed for second bookable offence - prodded home from close range eight minutes later.

Nah.. Many starters did not play in the cup game. Rodri would not stop Ake from being outpaced by a winger. Even in the derby Rodri was outpaced by Rashford a couple of times.
yes but he has won all others, dont blame him. he has 60 pace (which makes him slow even though its not fifa) and if his defense isnt as good at pace he can do nothing

I'm tired of comments speaking negatively on Akanji and Ake as they were the best defenders on the pitch, yes they could have done better but they weren't the reason for our loss, as usual Kalvin is absent from defence and playing striker position, Dias unfortunate own goal, the constant loss of possession in key areas by Kovacic, Doku not passing the ball to Haaland and Alvarez, we are also missing so many key players from the starting 11, with odds like this the time to step up is now. COME ON CITEHH 💙💙

For the game winning goal, I don't understand Akanji planting himself like a keeper instead of going after the player with the ball in the box. Other teams' defenders furiously try to prevent any shot on goal, especially from close range. They get in the attackers face as fast and as much as possible. He seemed slow to react to what was happening and then decided to become a football mannequin. I hope he wasn't sick or anything. And Kalvin seemed to give up far too easily on a play, preferring to throw his arms in the air and look towards the referee despite play continuing. He's got to keep going after it all the time, especially if he's the one who's been dispossessed of the ball. With all of the strange calls being made in the game these days, no one should count on the referees stopping the play, not matter how obvious an incident was. That applies to everyone, not just Kalvin.

The absence of Stones, KDB, Bernado and Rodri is clearly being felt. The new crew is relatively inexperienced and seem to be struggling with control of the game. They're all individually gifted players, but seem to be lacking team co-ordination. Hopefully Pep will fix this soon.

Really need Doku to stop taking a shot at goal when there obviously isn't any openings, and try passing or crossing the ball to the strikers in those situations. He's definitely a threat at goal but has definitely been underperforming in terms of created chances!

this is why we need cucurella, one of the best crosser in the league. i knew pep is evolving the system but we all know to go to the next level in this system, we need every players to be a THREAT outside the box, defensive player who could cross or long range shooting like rodri and stones. they are giving walker,dias,akanji,ake so much space but these guys just balooned the shots and crosses like mad. if a japanese youtuber can improve his shooting within a few years, why cant our defensive players do? ill promise you when the threat of shooting and crossing is there, they way they defend would change so much its not even a contest anymore.just 1v1 basketball logic, if he could'nt shoot a 3, just guard the hoop.
