As an ex-Shang main, here are a few tips that i can give:
- After a grab, wait a little bit, and then use special kick. This delay allows you to land the hit, even if the opponent uses recovery kick. It also knocks them back in the perfect angle, so you can follow up with special attack or the Whirlwind shadow ability. (If you follow up with special attack, it will be blocked, but youll still gain lots of shadow energy)
- Special attack should be your bread and butter. Its a very safe and long ranged move. Always remember to cancel the last hit into either upper attack (you gain more shadow energy if they block it, and deals more damage if they dont), or back attack, in case they want to counter you.
- Remember to always use attack cancels to keep your opponent on their toes, and then occassionaly dont cancel, and laugh as they drop their guard in the middle of your combo, thinking you will cancel it.
- Learn several different shadow combo routes, and adapt based on the situation: For example, if you get a grab, use delayed special kick, then Whirlwind, then Arrow Rain, if Arrow Rain connects, then immediately Soul Grip, if not go for heavy attack, and then follow up.
- Use your upper and heavy attack often! These moves are often neglected by Shang players, but not only are they insane anti-airs, but they also give a huge amount of shadow energy, even if they are blocked, and heavy attack can be used to counter jumps, and even combos into itself if used as an anti-air.
- And finally, heres the talent build i use:
Scourge arrow, shadow finale, gloom explosion, shadow suppression, style of the dragon.

Unity bro i am also using shang for some time now. He is my main. Ehile fighting try to make your opponent uncomfortable to stand. This will give you a chance for up and then heavy like don't use shadow ability directly first fet into shadow then make then worry and then start and don't try to use all shadow and yeah one more thing while you have shadow, try to maje them think when you're gonna use it and never let them make distant while you have shadow. I know i am not a pro player but i am using so i told it to you😅😅😅 but try this once ❤❤❤❤

Shang is a killer in story mode too...
Saying Shang is strong is an understatement. He's super strong if the player has mastered him. I've been ocv'd by too many Shang pro players. His shadow combos are too deadly

I use shang much but i never use the up shadow ability

Everyone just see your journal to see how you play or on UA-cam or they don't care thats it . I am not at all bothered about win rate bcx i know you are skilled that's it. Congratulations for 4k too
