Robert Griffiths opens by saying its about time that we give up dreaming the American Dream as it's a myth. Multimillionaires who have made their fortune in a system that is based on exploitation, discrimination and inequality have promoted the American dream.
He says that the wealthiest 1% of the population own 1/3 of the countries wealth and more than 50% of stocks and shares. This makes it one of the most unequal societies on earth.

Fantastic speech hitting the nail right on the head
I'm an American and live out of a van....life in America equates to Hell on earth
Both him and Corbyn are the most inspirational speakers on the left. Imagine a communist labour coalition super majority in the United states where labor would be the right wing option now that would be great.
Completely agreed. Corbyn and Griffiths have the kitchen sink thrown at them but they really are both amazing. their ideologies definitely differ but are similar enough for the CPB to support labour and not run in elections while Corbyn was leader. Shame Corbyn isn’t leader anymore.
The best modern British politician
Absolutely on point. I like this guy.
Then you would like his party
@@matthew5386 as one should!!!!!
Wow! 10 years on and this speach has lost nothing. Still completely relivent and accurate - could have been written last week!!
The thing is there are wonderful aspects to both capitalism and
socialism.
Capitalism is trade essentially. But consumer debt has made it quite an
ugly system. The worst is often diseases of the mind, depression,
loneliness and distraction.
Socialism has so much rooted in community. What are we if we lose our
community. Although not wealthy in the pocket and the bank it can be
wealthy at heart.
Surely there is some blending of the two that produces far more than any
individual system would be capable in delivering. Perhaps 90% capitalism and 10% communism initially.
As automation and AI takes hold it might be more like 50:50, moving towards 10% capitalism and 90%
communism.
Communists are not against trade. Communist countries are usually deliberately isolated from world trade, by capitalist powers. Russia was isolated (not to mention invaded!) as soon as the communists took power. Marx of course favoured an end to capitalism entirely, but he thought free trade and an end to protectionism was preferable and likely to hasten socialism.
All about narrowing the wealth gap n keeping prices well managed.
Man, you should do the same search, but with Brazil. lol...
LOAD OF WAFFLE
Thanks for your great contribution. Got any factual basis or statistics to prove he was speaking "waffle"? All of the statistics he provided are accurate.
Brilliant, now if only we could pass it along to the Americans...look at the smirks on the snobs faces, how I wish that one could smack the expression off....
As an American, I am very happy to hear speeches like this as it is brilliant. We absolutely need to get our heads of our asses about our unbridled love of capitalism. The American Dream is supposed to be, if you work hard, you can make a fair living. One day, and I don't know which day it was, the American Dream converted to, if you work hard, you COULD be(COULD be) RICH. Our dream turned from equal opportunity to one of pure greed. Even some poor people here will tell you that having the 1% own so much wealth is the way it should be. Why? because it gives us something to shoot for, something to dream about. We all want to be the 1%. Our dream is wrong. As an American, let me say, please listen to this man. Learn from our mistakes.
absolute brilliance. I watched this nodding to every single point.
great speech, brilliant speech!
Very good stuff.
Great this speech 100% agree :-)
The American Nightmare
Based.
I think he's right that the American Dream doesn't exist right now. But, from what I've read, it only began to die in the 70s
Resisting what?
Resisting the inherent injustice of private ownership and the putting of capital accumulation ahead of the living standards of the masses. Labour and Capital will always struggle, even if it's a battle fought behind closed doors. In response to your other comment, Marxist-Leninists don't dream of dictatorship. A key idea within Marxist-Leninism is actually to destroy the State from within
