The album “Madurai Somu - Classical Live Concert Vol - 1” is a collection of Carnatic Music songs with Matchless rendering by Shri Madurai Somu in a very unique style and his voice is like a magnet.
Madurai S. Somasundaram, popularly known as Madurai Somu was born in the year 1919. He was a Carnatic music vocalist. Madurai Somu learnt his music from Sesha Bhagavatar, Abhirama Sastri and Chittoor Subramanyam Pillai. He started his career by doing a concert in Tiruchendur in 1934. Madurai Somu was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1976, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1978 and the Sangeetha Kalasikhamani award by The Indian Fine Arts Society in 1983. He was a very popular singer among masses and his concerts could go on sometimes for 5-6 hours, well into the early morning hours. Madurai Somu etched himself into every one’s heart with his colossal manodharma and profound rendering of ragas of substance that are the quintessential treasures of Carnatic music. Madurai Somu sang the 'manodharma sangeetha' that was his hallmark for a good 2-3 hours and then regaled the audience with more, in the lighter segment.

I should say Iam very fortunate to have herd him in person many times one particular incident I can never forget is the concert at mysore when at 12 midnight some rasika asked for RTP a second one and sri lalgudi sir was reluctant as it was late...he told him we get money in every concert not such packed rasikas and immediately sang RTP....the pallavi was....srirama Jayarama Jaya jaya raama..yadukula Soma shivrama Rama raama vinayaka rama....needless to say the accompanying artists are UKS Up ramachar kanjira sri vinayaka ram on ghatam apart from lalgudi sir ..all the artists got chsrged with the pallavi and the concert wound up at about 2am the full croud still wanting to extend the concert...
We can't even imagine such musician's and rasikas today

I find some mix up in mentioning the name of the ragas. Please check and correct them if possible. I don't know much about such techniques.
I am sure it is the great M.Chandrashekaran on violin. Is it young Karaikudi Mani on mirudhangam...looks like it is...

Who is this giving all wrong Raaga identifications? Misleading rasikas. For in stance Varalantu is of raaga Gurjari....Pl try to correct these.
