Might be from the 80s, but nothing has changed. We just added new skills, mastered new tools, and if anything we've gotten more stubborn.

I love this song because I am a country boy. I understand totally that you don't relate and that's alright. We can't expect everyone to like everything we do. I really respect that you at least listened to the finish. Have a great one.

That's a very fair take on this song. A huge part of why I like this song is just because I grew up in a small town and im proud to have been raised in the country. I can understand why you don't like this one as much. Hank Jr. is pretty old school, but a couple of his songs that I think you might like better are "Born to Boogie" and "All my Roudy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight"

David Allen Coe was one the most racist country singers out there. He had some good songs.....but holy god, he would go off on racist rants that shocked even me. it's one thing to let a word slip..(it happens)...but he formed songs around his hatred.

Great country song by a great country singer. I got to meet him and get my picture with him in 2018 before one of his concerts. In 1975 he fell 500’ off of a mountain and shattered his face; one eye was hanging out and his brain was exposed. He’s tough for sure. His dad, Hank Sr. died at the age of 29 when Hank Junior was only 3.

This song is so true though. I thought I was country... bonfires, tent camping, I can shoot a gun, but this song is about true country folk. They’ll eat what they can hunt and catch. Live off the land. If it’s broke they fix it and they never ask for help... help just shows up. Then the next house help just shows up there. A tractor is broke, well you trade off half a deer for having a field cut or fix something for someone in exchange for them fixing your tractor. Yeah... I could survive but I didn’t know what being country was about until I moved to the heart of the south. Upstate country NY is nothing compared to country down here. Country is more than twangy music... it’s a way of life.

Kia Peterson Not sure why you felt the need to put that comment in my post, but I didn’t ask anyone here what their opinion was about RL. So instead of trying to spread hate about someone who is taking the time to at least try to like different genres of music from different cultures, how about you just keep your unwarranted and unwanted opinions to yourself. Another thing, if his facial expressions turn you off, then stop watching his videos. Because as a professional critic myself, meaning this is my job, I actually appreciate the fact that he’s being honest.

Hi and thanks for your reaction, first Hank Williams Jr. sings more what we call Country Rock you see His Father Hank Williams Sr. was real traditional Country and what you would call Country Music and he die young from to much drinking while on the road and he die in a car's back seat going to new singing gig people look to Hank Jr. to that up where his Father left off and did for a while but then he had a near-fatal accident in 1975 that changed the entire course of his life and career. The country icon went climbing on Ajax Peak in Beaverhead County, Mont., on Aug. 8, 1975. The snow beneath him collapsed, and Williams fell 440 feet, fracturing his skull in multiple places. Williams was not expected to live, and his recovery took multiple surgeries over two years with help from some some old family friends he SURVIVED so the song is about him and surviving. So he charge from the family tradition of singing too Country Rock and the big hat and sunglasses are to hide some scars on his face and eye.

His father, Hank Williams Sr., learned how to play the Blues from a black man in Alabama named Rufus "Tee Tot" Payne. Hank Sr. became a HUGE recording artist but dead at 29 years old of heart failure. Drugs and alcohol played a part in Hank Sr's. death but the entire family knows and will tell you, as will all country music historians, of the influence that one man had on a little 8 year old boy who's name was Hank Williams.
So here's to Mr. Rufus "Tee Tot" Payne, one of the inspirations and architects of a music genre loved the world over.

Hank was the 1st concert I attended and is a very deep-rooted country sound. To appreciate the story of "Outlaw" Country listen to "The Conversation". You'll struggle through the 3/4 beat but as with most "country" songs, the lyrics tell a story, and this song explains, his Daddy's place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. To Cataogize Hanks music there is Pre-fall and Post falling off the mountain. When he woke up only 2 people were in the room, his godmother June Cash, and husband Johnny Cash. "Country State of Mind" would be another song that can help make the connection from City to County living so to say.

Someone who doesn't live in that lifestyle won't understand it. But 1000 kudos to you for listening to it and being objective. I love listening to your reactions. I just stumbled across your channel and I really appreciate how you give a lot of music a chance, regardless of if it’s your style! I’ve always thought that we might gravitate towards certain styles or genres of music that reflects our personal taste, but we miss out on a lot of great stuff if we never let ourselves check other music out. I think your channel is a great reflection of that! And I love how you show that you can dislike a song or style, without trashing the artist or musical genre. We’ve all got different styles but how boring would it be if all music was cookie cutter!

He's telling a story that even tho we don't have all the things the big city folk have that look down on us, we know how to live off the land and we can survive.

A respectful and honest opinion. Not everything is for everyone nor should it be. If it sounds good to you it IS good to you. If not, there's always more out there to discover. 😊✌️

I never noticed it before, but the tug boat in the video was named after his mother, Miss Audrey.
This was a song of defiance, from back when "Country" folk were being ridiculed and denigrated in populuar culture. It was a song saying "Don't bring no revolution our way, 'cause we'll just win it and go back to what we been doing."
Other, more upbeat, songs by Hank are:
    Montana Cafe
    Homecoming Queen
    New Orleans
He's also done some great covers:
    Lawyers, Guns, and Money
    Tuesday's Gone
    Keep Your Hands to Yourself
And pretty much all of his albums have at least one cover of his father's songs, either solo or with some friends:
    Mind Your Own Business
    Kaw-Liga
    Move it on Over
And there's usually a tribute song to Hank Sr in the list, too. You can go WAY down the country music rabbit hole when exploring Hank Jr's history.
You should also check out Hank Williams III (yes, Hank Jr's son).
'Thunderstorms and Neon Signs' is a song than Hank Sr could have done
'Hurtin for Certain' isn't country, but it's got a great beat.

This came out in 81, it was a whole different sound. The outlaws: Hank, Waylon, Willie, Haggard and Jones. It's just different. Other songs by Hank: Family Tradition, Buck Naked, Rowdy Friends.

Hank Jr's dad, Hank Sr. was a very well known singer, as is his son Hank III. Funny note: Although they are professionally known as Hank Sr., Hank Jr. and Hank III, they all actually have different names.

The take away from this song, for a non country fan, and for someone from an urban area...is that times are going to get really tough in this country.
It was written a long time ago... But right this moment, the Mississippi river is indeed running dry. We are heading into super high inflation this winter, high energy costs, energy and fuel shortages, and pretty severe food shortages...and war.
Country people are more equipped to survive what's happening. Its a cautionary tale for urban dwellers who depend on everything they have, being delivered their neighborhood stores, etc...
I am the epitome of this song. I live in the country with my wife and kids. Im staring at a herd of deer out of the window in my den right now. I can take a short walk through my woods and go fishing. We grow a lot of our own food. We have our own water well. We dont rely on any city services at all. We constantly work towards complete food independence. Our neighbors are all the same. We help each other, we trade, we barter, etc... We have our own machinery to get all kinds of work done. We are armed to the teeth.
I think its an important distinction to make between urban Americans, and rural Americans. Theres lessons to be learned... because times are getting tougher by the hour at this point. I cant stomach the thought of standing in some line in a big city somewhere, and waiting for government bread handouts. Or not having water. Or the trash piling up. Or not having some sort of power back up option. I know even in the worst of situations, I can walk out my door, and be back in a matter of minutes with something for my family to eat.
