I use one to carry my auto fluids as well. What I dont like is American gallon antifreeze and large bottles of windshield wiper fluid dont fit even with the high lid. I really do like these boxes though. I will never go back to containers that taper at the bottom

My Frontrunner boxes have holes drilled in the bottom that let dust and water in when setting the box on wet or dusty ground. I just taped these holes. They also have the CubPaks witch are smaller
Thank you for the review. Is it possible to open the box and get access without removing all latches and removing the complete top? I mean, can you open it like a chest?
It can be done by opening the latches on one side only. I do this often. However, as i mentioned in the review, those latches are not all that strong. So you will run the risk of breaking them.
Very well made video! You have answered questions that are not on the front runner website! Your video popped up right under their ad after I searched these boxes, so others must agree! Cheers from America!
Hey Mike. Glad it was helpful. They are great boxes. The two boxes on the roof has been there for the past several years and the Aussie sun has not had any UV effects on them.
glad the video was useful. the raised lids makes a big difference in storage capacity. keep the latches on the flat lids as spares. The latches tend to break fairly easily.
I use a couple of these as well. I got them from the bush company. I also got some clear top canvas bags that are designed to fit into them. 2 different sizes which sort of makes them modular to the box
Hey Rashid. The rubber tie down i got from Bunnings. You can get from any hardware. Get the size that works for you. Keep it a bit tight so there is little movement. www.bunnings.com.au/earl-s-700mm-quickties-rubber-tiedown-strap_p4314285
I have the smaller version of these, “Cub Packs”, and love them! Front Runner makes a great product. Small wish I would consider how to design them to stack and stay strong together without so many ridges, lips etc for easy quick wipe down.
@@4xTouring they do :) www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/au/front-runner-drawers-with-sliding-top-single-height-double-width-970mm-long.html . I am looking at having this in my 76 wagon. Congrats on the channel! Nice work!
@@ferytm I've been looking at that. Love the concept. The only issue I have is, it is still as heavy as a drawer system. Wondering if it would work out lighter if the framework was built out of aluminium tubing.
if you had had them for 10 years then thats a statement in itself ..most of us have probably done the big box storage boxes and change every 3 years ....great channel
Good idea. I use the larger spacecases which I can load onto the ute tray. Means you can have everything packed away in the shed ready to go and get your vehicle loaded / unloaded quickly.
Love the spacecases. It is a lot more easier to pack and access on a ute. Wagons like my 80 can be quite restricted. When ever my next build is, it will be a ute with tray back.
@@4xTouring Hi Duncan Yes, I use mine for work and camping. The tray back has proven to be the most useful for what I do. Though I was eyeing off an ex army 6wd Landrover Perentie 🤔
@@lindsaybrown7357 That would be pretty awesome. Turning circle might not be that great. But that does not matter with the wide open spaces we have here. Out of curiosity, what does one of those ex army Landies go for?
@@4xTouring Hi Duncan Turning circle is quite poor but the vehicle has a large insulated fibreglass cabin on the back, if it's ex ambulance or service vehicle. I was bidding on one but dropped out at 20k, which is about what it sold for. Spending another 10-15k, you could have a pretty decent and capable tourer with a reliable 3.9l Isuzu motor and old school electrical.
I have not had any issues. I have had these for about four years now. Out of that two years the 80 stayed parked out in the open as we did not have a garage at the time. From what i recall i bought the straps which come with uv protection.
They do make metal clips for the lids as an option too. Have you considered trying these? I understand that these boxes are based on South African Ammo cans/boxes, which are water resistant. Any idea why these civilian versions have 4 holes in the bottom of the base? I live in an area that has a long wet season, and am leery of these boxes because they will permit the ambient moisture in the vehicle to accumulate inside the box, where I will then have to deal with rusting, mildew, and having to air dry them out when the rainy season ends. That is a consideration for me. I might seek out actual South African Ammo cans instead, for this reason.
I am assuming the holes are for anchoring them down. Not sure if that was the design intention. I use the holes for that purpose as i showed in the video. The holes dont go into the box. They are not water proof. Water does not get in, but not being a sealing lid moisture can build up inside. Perhaps try the Pelican boxes available at Bunnings. They are weather sealing. Link below. Yes they are based on the ammo cases. Since i went for the optional hi-lids i ended up with an extra set of latches per box. So did not bother with metal clips. www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/brands/p/pelican
@@4xTouring Thank you. Yes, I see that the holes on the corners of the box are intended for hooks and do not penetrate the interior of the container. The corners are double walled. But, there appear to be 4 holes in the bottom of the box, according to the Front Runner video and description. This would be very practical if I lived in the desert. There is a South African fellow who designed a box of the same dimensions, but with a hinged lid and gasket which makes it water and dust resistant. Unfortunately these are only available in SA. Pioneer Plastics makes them. They call them autograph boxes. I will probably go with the Front Runner boxes and jerry rig them to make them a bit more water resistant for the winter. These are priced reasonably and readily available.
You have a relaxing voice. Great for troubled times like this. Cheers...
