Creating a Wedding Gown for $20 ?!

- I went fabric shopping with a 20 dollar bill only, and stumbled across this stunning peach lace. IT has a stretch and weight to it, and was super soft. The fabric lended itself to a long draped style gown.

While patterning, I decided to allow a bishop sleeve for some volume n the dress. I think it really transported it to a boho style place. Although the materials were less than $20, I Am super aware that doesn't account for my machinery, or more specifically, my labor, ha! But for the fun sake of a video, it IS possible to create a wedding gown for little money as long as you have some imagination!

Beautiful!!! I’m a seamstress/ designer of 50+ yrs. Repurposing clothing & fabrics is fun & a real money saver for sure. Looks great!!❤
Dear God...
It's a 'work of art'. Absolutely beautiful.
This its why it’s so expensive to buy a dress and buying the materials are inexpensive, the talent it takes to make a dress is more valuable.
I guess because wedding isnt always held...like its your precious day...
@Amrita Kaur Idk some people like to live differently, no need for judgment
@Amrita Kaur my wedding dress was only $600. You can always find something you’ll love in whatever budget you set. Also, online wedding dress stores are starting to become more popular, and many items I loved on their were under what I had spent.
@Amrita Kaur Its not only once though, and the experience matters more.

This guy should make budget wedding dresses, like he could make so much when adding the labour cost and profit while still making it more affordable than most dresses

I have an aunt who used to design and sew beautiful wedding dressing, she's also an amazing photographer and takes a lot of wedding photos ect. This dress here is amazing. I'm always impressed ppl can take a roll of fabric and create such beautiful pieces.
People would want it for £50 if he called it budget. Sell it as a handmade ‘re-vintage’ dress from reclaimed vintage or upcycled fabric and it’s definitely the sort of thing I would buy if I were in the market for a wedding dress.
I’d snap it up if it were a similar ordinary dress as I’m often too big for vintage pieces and now trying to avoid buying any more fast fashion. There’s a huge growing market for the latter, so if he didn’t already have a successful career (which I’m guessing he has), he could definitely make a living with his talent.
Dude everytime I see one of your videos I'm mesmerized at what you can do with just your hands, scissors and a sewing machine. I'm so so glad youtube recommended your channel to me.
"I pressed everything nice, flat, beautiful"- I dunno why but I never get tired of this person sating that..🥰
Using cheap material and trying to make them look nice is what 90% of rhe fashion industry is. You're doing great. I'd buy that in a heart beat.

That dress can be expensive because of your skill... not everybody turn cheap material to dress like this! People sometimes mistaken about the dress should be cheap because of the material but forgeting about the process behind it to make it piece of art...

And that is why an artist/artisan/designer is worth what they charge: $20 of materials, $1,000 worth of creativity and labor.

That’s very true

Most times you pay for the brand name. When you pay for what ever your buying they have to pay back everyone who helped with putting the item together, shipping, and everything else in between.
@@nikiyarhynes7834 yup
Another gorgeous creation; Thank you for sharing.
WOW !!!...MATCHES PERFECTLY WITH THE BACKGROUND...💘
I think a distinction needs to be made that is $20 worth of raw material but it is absolutely NOT a $20 wedding dress because you are completely devaluing your amazing skills in creating it.
the 20$ is clickbait so people are interested in the video. Less people would habe watched if it was just called „sewing a wedding dress“

This proves talent is expensive than the raw material and labour cost..

Talent is labour cost. But all the sewers dont get paid what they deserve. Brand tag takes more than 50 percent money for same product without the tag on it

What would a super expensive wedding dress look like if THIS is only a $20 one?!?!
If it's this shuttle if dress, the same. He used inexpensive fabric and materials. Even if they used cheap fabric and materials most taylors, seamstresses and designers charge a pretty penny for the labor alone.
I would love to see him do another one
A couple hundred worth of materials but a couple thousand worth of labour

Is this an insult or a compliment?
Well thats what most are made for. You're paying for the brand name a lot of the time, when manufacturing and materials themselves rarely cost more.
@•Daisy Malfoy• just checking
Me who has never sewed a single garment once:
These are some great ideas im getting 🤔
XD me with literally any hobby/profession i see someone post that i personally cant do
The only garment I ever made was a dress that had a cord that ran through a seam across the top of the bust and tied around the back.
It looked awful but I was 14 and so proud of it that I wore it the next day to hang out with my friends at the park.
Alas, my terrible work meant that the seam came undone and the front of the dress fell, flashing everyone around.
I ended up running home holding the front of it up in shame, and never tried to sew my own clothes again! I can just about hem a flat piece of fabric, but I’ll break 3 needles in the process. 😬
I obviously didn’t inherit my Mum’s seamstress talent, but I did pick up knitting from my Grandma so I’ll stick to that. 😆
Same but I’ve sewn a pillow case and a pair of shorts 😂
Wow beautiful dress .❤
Beautiful dress, beautiful music, and beautiful hands!
Correction: The MATERIALS cost $20. I'd pay through the roof for the cost of the skill and time to make that.
Good job.
This is exactly what I was thinking the whole time! We pay for the skill and time put into these dresses. Not just the fabric
Yup said this myself. Not just the skill but the artistry and insight
One more like and 400 people agree!!!!
I'd sell my soul for a dress that gorgeous!
It's not that hard. There's plenty of videos that show how. Practice on scrap fabric until you get your skill level where it needs to be. Start out with simple beginner projects. You can definitely do it.
Love how he gives us a full vid and doesn’t just say like for part two 😂

Gunnar ...you are incredible. What a brilliant master of design. Love you
Your time and love that goes into your dresses are priceless.
I'm here sitting and calculating the costs of those dresses that costs thousands of dollars.....i know he didn't add his labor cost.... but I'm calculating the cost of material and accessories
Also materia this dress might be polyester or acrylic so that make it less expensive, it's not the same as silk or cotton that it's what's clothes should have been made. Dresses even like this need extructure so bonning it's necesary, linning is also necesary specially with silk, besides the closing thread labor, and location of the store atelier etc
@@alexispablo6854 I don't want to name the brands and designers, usually the stitching is done by a seamstress and the cost of the dress is marked way higher than the cost of everything. And in today's day and age we don't get the same quality as one received many many years ago. You can do a comparison with vintage clothes
@@queenb2646 totally, the other day i was searching for a tshirt and i couldn't find a cotton one, everything is polyester or acrylic wich soecially in winter as undergarment it's a nono.
Very labor intensive
I alway consider my time on my garments as keeping me out of trouble and worth ever dime. I am sure his viewers end up begging to buy his garments.
Soooo when he's gonna open his own store, $25? $30? $50, it worth it, shit, hire him on my own wedding for my own wedding dress. Something about his voice and how he works in the clips, its very calming and so natural, its good vibes only.
If he sold them he'd have to include his own hourly wage in the price so It would be much higher a cost.
if he sold it i wonder the cost would be anything below 300$
The material costs $20
Not the dress cause there's a lot of effort in making such a beautiful dress
He's a dude??
I'm pretty sure he does have a website where you can buy his pieces and a shop in Kentucky
Unbelievable!! Beautiful!!!!
Simple and attractive. I love the dressmakers dummy also!
I agree that this took a tremendous amount of skill to make, but to those people in the comments saying, “Talent is why wedding dresses cost so much,” no. The wedding industrial complex is why dresses cost so much.
exactly! these comments are annoying
I was thinking that too. Like I totally agree that he should get paid for his talent but to charge someone 3 grand for a dress that took $20 to make is ridiculous. Charge a fair price for the materials and a lil upcharge for the creativity and hours worked at about $800-$1000 for the dress (depending on the dificulty) and I think that’s more than fair. Anything over that and they are exploiting the customers especially if the sellers are big box companies making millions off various customers.
@@genwilson7741 @Gen Wilson General rule of thumb as a freelance artist is to change an hourly rate based off your expertise + materials. $20/hour for this level of expertise is dirt cheap. But say it took him 20 hours to design and sew this. The dress would cost $420. But say he was paid the actual amount of his expertise, which is probably $40/hr, then it'd be $820. So a $1000 price tag is not that ridicious when you think about it, esp if it took more than 20 hours to make. 3 grand at 40/hr + materials is 75 hours, which for some dresses is probably about how long it takes to take measurements on a client, make the pattern(s), sew a mockup, fit it on the client, make changes, sew the real thing, hand sew embroidery or beading, etc. So no, 3 grand for a freelance artist to hand craft your wedding dress is honestly probably not taking advantage of anybody. That's more than likely a fair price for years of expertise and time spent they could have been working or doing anything else.
Edit: grammar
Very true. I have so many people whove gotten married that say as soon as you say wedding, the price for food, cake, the venues and dresses go sky high
Not to mention if you look into it 80% of wedding dresses are made in China, and they are not even paid well for their labor in many cases.
This looks like a vintage wedding dress that's been passed down through generations
Yes, my wedding dress was like that. I haven't been able to find the date it was made, but it did have a lace overlay, but cotton underneath. I think it was 1890 or 1910 (neck was high)
