I have a Go Blu, it is a great little gadget. Has a warm neutral tone, I get 13 hours of loud audio using LDAC. It is smaller than my zippo lighter. I use bluetooth dac/amps a lot, good to have one that doesn't need a phone app.
Thanks for the great review. The comparison between the V1 and V2 is exactly what I was looking for. Looking forward to getting my first iFi in the mail soon!
I wish somebody would compare the Hip Dac 2 vs. go blu for sound quality. I understand that it's not a "fair" comparison but it's what I'm cross shopping. I have a pair of focal celestee I bought for the office/work as well as train commute. Go Blu will provide slightly better portability but most of my usage will be desktop at work. So my question is does the added power and wired functionality lead to better sound quality vs. go blu?
If you'll be using it primarily for wired use, then the Hip-DAC V2 will give you somewhat higher quality and definitely a bit more power than the Go Blu. I would recommend the Go Blu to someone who is set on bluetooth, as it's an option that allows them to go wireless without significantly degrading quality. Because it's a well made DAC/Amp, it's probably one of the higher quality bluetooth signals you can get, so the difference in quality to a wired DAC/Amp is probably about the same difference between a high end bluetooth and wired pair of headphones. - Luke
@@MajorHiFi I have the hifiman edition xs headphones, power hungry. I use them thru my samsung galaxy ultra smartphone. Two questions. First, is it possible to listen and charge the hip dac at the same time? And do you think it's a good match for me?
I would like to get the Go Blu to use as a telephone mic at the office. I have the XDSD, and I'm certain that I prefer the sound of the Burr Brown dac over Go Blu BUT the xdsd doesn't have a mic. This is small enough to have in your pocket and quickly switch out when getting calls. Can't wait to try it!
Really enjoying your videos! How do you think the GO Blu compares with the Fiio BTR5 - is the difference pronounced? (I would run a slightly modded DT 1770s from these). Thanks for any thoughts!
Out of the two, which sound did you prefer? The Hip Dac V2 or the Go Blu? 🤔 Considering pairing DT 770s with either of these and would appreciate your input!
So, I have the hifiman edition xs headphones, and I use with my samsung galaxy ultra smartphone. The hip dac 2 has it's own battery, so which would you recommend for my particular headphones and application? Also, can you listen to music and change the hip dac at the same time?
Confused as to output power of hipdac 2, on ifi site its same as hipdac original but on the ifi supplied lit on Amazon for instance it states 600 mw balanced @32 ohms not 400
Nicely Done. The Xbass is way too subtle for my taste. Is it just me who thinks the Go Blu's 5.1 bluetooth is very poor ? Can 't walk past 6 feet in direct line of music source before breakup. I've got 4.2 headphones & ear buds that are much better. I wonder if an update could help the Bluetooth problem. Sounds good and so tiny. Thanks
I have the Hip Dac V2 and find it too cumbersome while out walking. This is because once you have the hard plastic USB male end plugged in to the underside, it doesn’t sit in pockets nicely and gives it a longer profile. If this cable came out the top of the device and left one end flat then that would be better. I tried a joggers hip belt but again the USB male to usb-c cable was too rigid and forced me into having both the phone and Hip Dac wrapped around the front of my abdomen which was like wearing an ammo belt, despite the fact that I had set up adhesive velcro aimed and sandwiching the phone and dac together. Am going to buy the GO Blu because based on sound quality either are great.
Why IFI didn't put a 3.5" input into the Hip Dac V2 I dunno, but it's NOT really portable. I ended up buying one, realizing it only had USB, and sent it back and got the XCan amp, which is 1000x better and more portable. And it HAS Bluetooth built in!
Does the hip dac 2 lose charge when not used? I had the original hip dac but returned it because the battery would completely deplete after 3 days when fully charged and not used at all.
@@nieledwardmckeeable I really enjoy them, I was look for the perfect closed back to complement my focal Clears. The Celestee are it, they are pretty close to the Clears for me. They have a nice deep, clear bass that doesn't over do it. They also have very good detail retrieval. Only knock is sound stage is slightly smaller then the clears, which are open back. I current in EQ by raising 7.5k, 2db making it sound more open. I love these headphones.
@@RayCabrera1 thanks for your detailed response. I was thinking about the same combination when I saw your post. If you purchase would love to hear your thoughts.
The ifi guys on the forums said it's pretty close.. In fact Sebastian was suggesting that I get the Go Blu for added portability. I don't MQA so really only the reclocking to improve jitter would be the only value prop on the hip dac 2 for me. I'm interested in the Go Blu as it has both xbass and the soundstage effect which may help my Celestee. I'm just not sure I want to fully commit to bluetooth yet.
Go blu has one big disadvantage. It cannot be used as wired dac on iPhone like dragonfly dac. iPhone will basically complain that device requires to much power (despite Go blu having its own built in battery). It’s a shame because when I connect Go blu to my laptop with wire it sounds so much better than Bluetooth connection.
I’ve seen a person say for HD650/6XX The Go Blu is a bit soft? But they think 660S/560S would be driven fine. What was your experience? I’m starting out and want to be mobile to encourage engagement with my headphones. But, worried that it is not suitable for 300 ohm open ear headphones. Did you happen to try any?
when pairing with hd600 for example the sound is very good loud clear with much bass and highs..maybe needs a little more loudness but dont bother because I dont like loudness for a long time sessions..
Hi :) whats the sound difference when u use the hipdac on the phone vs pc? The old one sounded better through the pc bs phone (mostly the bass was snapier amd cleaner).
Maybe. Planars suck tons of power no matter what the amp is, at least portable ones. Be prepared to turn the volume up a lot more on planars and use more battery time. I own two Hifiman headphones (planars) and they just suck more power out of any of my headphone amps, but the IFI drives my new HE400SEs a lot better than most. I mean my IFI xCan, not sure about the Go Blu.
I keep hearing of people on here bitching that some new portable amp they bought didn't power their planar headphones or high impedance dynamics nearly enough, but what I don't understand is why people expect small portable rechargeable amps to instantly have as much power as some home desktop high power amp or receiver to drive low efficiency cans or IEMs? Hifiman are not pumping out big bulky planar headphones intending people to go jogging with them!! Those expectations are very unrealistic. I just got an IFI XCan and it powers my Hifiman HE400SEs, but they definitely still suck more power out of the amp to drive them properly. Not maxed out, but definitely cranked more. This is just reality.

always loved the ifi products just waiting for that day when they add xspace on both zendac and the hipdac and keep it at a similar price point.
