Don't get discouraged by the haters. Cebu was never the best place. Its nice to see foreigners critique the city. My only concern with this video is the idea that the filthiness of the city is because of a lazy government cutting corners. No, its the laws that explains why the Philippines in general is filthy, not corrupt politicans. Garbage collection is entrusted entirely on the local government units called barangays that subdivide the city, but barangays don't even collect their own source of revenue (e.g. via taxes) and are therefore entirely dependent on the annual general appropriations from the city governemnt. That is why barangays can't let garbage collectors run 24/7 like they do in cleaner cities because the barangays don't even own their own garbarge trucks and must share them with other barangays much less pay the salaries for more street cleaners. Solid waste management is a problem of the law, not our culture. Why else is Cebu IT Park clean but everywhere else dirty? Do Cebuanos magically behave better if they enter Special Economic Zones? No, its because IT Park has its own cohorts of service janitors etc. Also, SEZs are exempt from the normal sh1t laws that plague the city, e.g. zoning...
Hopefully, things will change for the better. South Korea was just as bad before the 1990's and that was even with decades of US and Japan money flowing into the country. But today it is totally modern and clean with food better than the USA. I have had very few food born problems in the Philippines, just be careful of where you go to eat. I have had really bad and some really great food in the Philippines, there are many qualified chefs that do have great restaurants if you look. Never been to Cebu but it's got to be better than Manila.

all big urban areas in Philippines are about the same. Boracay has become way overcrowded and not as nice as 20 years ago. There are a few nice places in the provinces
Sorry but Cebu city is not really a good representative of the country. Cebu island's main attractions are actually hours away from the city. There is still a chance for Cebu to fix this if the LGU is more proactive on better urban planning and social welfare programs. I know some cities in the country that are way better options than Cebu in representing the Philippines.
The man posted a video and gave his own personal experience and he shouldn't be attacked or criticized for doing so. He showed the good and bad areas of Cebu City and he didn't manipulate the video. He stated the truth. Face the facts the city needs a lot of work.
Americans must educate other Americans about the real situation in Asia. Graveyard dishes are common in Asia. Intestines, heart, liver and feet are common dishes. It like a cemetery on a plate.
You sound like winning. Bro Im from Canada and I lived in Philippines for 13yrs nothing wrong. Actually I find Philippines quiet safe and affordable.. If you don't like you don't have to be in Philippines go back home to your country.
I'm 581 wanna see how far his trolling can go to ~ but it is true there are places in Cebu reminiscent of the sickness that is being hidden for centuries ~ he should have filmed the source of it not the common folks.
I agree, the Philippines in general is a dump apart from their showcase cities and shopping malls. However, I didn't expect 1st world standards in my time in the Philippines and accepted their standards and "lack of" are things the people there accept. As a traveller, one should not expect that you can change anything... just take it all in and learn that sometimes it isn't about a particular place or superficial things that isn't to our 1st world standards. For me, it was about meeting people. I find the Filipinos to be very warm and welcoming. Their smiles makes up for the "dump" that my eyes sees. A smart traveler would avoid visiting the slums and make a decision to use a tour to see the places around the country. I never visited Colon during my time in Cebu as most modern shopping malls in Cebu had everything and every western brands you could ever think of. It is sad that the local government does not invest in making the first city in the Philippines and at least try to have plans to make it a showcase city once again. Getting back home, all I see are sad and serious faces as I walk through in the streets and shopping malls. I might be in a 1st world country, but my heart can only see that the people I am with including friends and colleagues are all 3rd rate and selfish! People hardly smile and when they do it is fake. Sad eh? I enjoyed my time in the Philippines for what it is!
Finally, some honesty. Cebu is an absolute HELLSCAPE worse than Manila. At least in Manila you can stay in the nice areas, locals call them the bubble areas/ CBDs like BGC taguig, Makati, Greenfields, Rockwell, Alabang, etc. In those areas, you'll think your in America (the nice parts) or some other developed country. Cebu is soo poor it's just sad. Maybe you came too early, just come back after 50 years and hopefully it can match developed countries already haha.

LOL why? Does Cebu flooded with basura until at the top of a two story house to call it worse than Manila? As far as i can remember nothing happened like that in Cebu. Just in you very lovely, clean, peaceful and modern Manila.
True. There are other places in the world to visit with good surroundings and clean and proper side walks, walking to city center. The majority of the city and place are reflection of the people who live in the area. Sad. That the only decent and clean areas are not affordable to the majority of the locals. Five or Six star hotels, but the surrounding areas are no stars. The local population of Cebu deserves better.
@fkoff7649 I loved Colon street area. I stayed a few days at Palm Grass hotel just down the street. Love how they do the open markets at night right there. Man if I was a DN I'd be spending alot of time that way.
In comparison to Manila, Cebu has the same air quality and is equally crowded, but it offers little to enjoy. As a result, there are few foreigners now. Additionally, the area experiences a bad rain season. IT or Ayala may look modern, but their shops sell the same quality items as those in Colon or other downtown areas. Their food is also disappointing, with too many franchises...and their urban planning is poor. Who would want to go to SRP for shopping? It's very inaccessible and a long trip in hot weather...but it doesn't offer enough value to visit. It's just the same as IT or Ayala - and it's expensive for what they have to offer.
@@theghostoftravel I grew up in Cebu .Im Cebuano. I just migrated abroad when I was 18 years old. I went there 2 years ago. It would take 50 years before they can catch up to some ASEAN countries like Malaysia and Singapore.
reality of life in an urbanized city the disparity between the rich and the poor...some of the street dwellers are from nearby provinces looking for better life in the city...

Once youre in Cebu. Just look at the cheap Concrete roads they use. No proper Asphalt at all. Dark streets, no pedestrian friendly at all , and the cables above ground is a complete mess. limited international branded hotels, ayala malls look very outdated and hard to find good quality food. Better off visiting Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. Way better for tourists who seeks quality. They keep promoting Cebu for visit, but its a dissappointment if you except much.

I've been to Boracay before and it was great, thought it was much nicer than Bali and Phuket. Thanks for the other suggestions!
all big urban areas in Philippines are about the same. Boracay has become way overcrowded and not as nice as 20 years ago. There are a few nice places in the provinces
Yup true so go get the fk out of the city.. bye

Most cities in the Philippines sucks, except for the modern business districts.
Manila also bad
i love cebu
every country have a good side and bad side. a good view and bad view.
Maybe you came too early, just come back after 50 years and hopefully it can match developed countries already haha.
nope

youll be safer inside your room bro hahaha
but Im not saying youre wrong.

Lived in Cebu for 7 months, NEVER EVER going back.
