richfiles Transforms a pair of iPads into a pair of Monitors

Watch as a perform a feat of electronic repurposing, as I make a pair of 4th Gen iPads disappear, and in their place, conjure up a pair of useful high resolution miniature monitors! I basically take apart a pair of iPads to extract the LCD panel. The iPads will go on to recycling, while the LCDs live on as a set of monitors, destined for the desk in my workshop.
I have previously made a monitor like this before, but that one, I made using some aluminum U channel and some polystyrene poster panels saved from a closed Gamestop, cut and sandwiched into layers. I made that monitor for my workbench, because I wanted a high resolution monitor I could slide right in front of my face, so i could see fine details, such as schematics and such, but also not be so large as to obscure the view of the workbench surface. The result was a 15.75x5.75 inch (40x14.7 cm) screen with a combined resolution of 4096x1536 pixels between both panels.
The big difference with the new screen, is you can now just outright buy shells for the LCD, along with the HDMI, USB-C, or VGA to iPad LCD digitizer boards. It makes repurposing these LCD panels so simple!
I also show off the newly built monitors capabilities by showing off my custom built Kerbal Space Program controller desk. Talk a bit about getting zapped, and run a bunch of resistors on cut tape through my lead former... It's a satisfying stream finisher. -- Watch live at www.twitch.tv/richfiles
