    I had a Ka for four years costing £399. During my time with it, it had a wheel bearing and an exhaust a a plate welded on the drivers sill. And that was it besides the obvious servicing, brakes, tyres, and bulbs. Absolute brilliant car. Used it daily, and always started up first time in the thick of the snow. It took me on holiday time and time again with no problems and it just kept on going. Amazing little car. Eventually rot killed it but for less than £400 for four years it’s unrepeatable. It’s like £2 a week for a car then just adding the exhaust, wheel bearing, and welding. Happy memories of what was so reliable and never breaking the bank

    I love the Ford Ka. Bought one 6 months old in 2004, and absolutely loved it to bits. It was great fun to drive, mature on the motorway, comfortable enough, and had plenty of space for its size. Reasonably economical as well. Kept it 5 years, and only sold it because disability happened and I needed an auto. It broke my heart to see it go. By that point it was so much more than just a car. For me it was the new Mini. It captured the spirit of the original much better than the BMW offering. I could eulogize about the Ka all evening. They're brilliant little cars, and the new owner of this one should be chuffed to bits with it. I certainly would be.

    If I had the Ka, I would take out the seats and carpets then waxoyl the floor and inner sills. Then clean underneath from back to front and waxoyl it underneath. This should keep the corrosion away for a while and make the chassis last longer. No doubt you could offer that service for the price of 2 gallons of waxoyl and a days wages. Easy money

    Lee, im sure youll be aware, but if the rear wiper stops working, ford earthed the tailgate through the hinge pins. Either drift them about, or a small earth strap and run it through the brake light conduit.
    And an ex of mine had one from new in 2000. Was an awesome littler steer but rust... hooo boy. Everywhere. Sills, doors, base of a post and we sold it around 5 years old.
    Only lasted another 3 or so years before it was scrapped

    Little peach that is Lee. They are very basic but that is what they were intended to be. The upside is they are really cheap to run and there isn't much to go wrong with them. And let's be honest, 19k is ridiculous for a car of that year. Took a shine to this car the first time you showed it and I have no doubt someone will feel the same and give it a good home.

    I still have a 2005 Ford Ka. Bought for £350 during lockdown. Hasn't gone around the fuel filler. Offside sill is a bit rough and been patched. Put 18,000 miles on it doing food deliveries. Now its retired (not even done 1000 miles this year and I no longer take out in the rain or when there is salt on the road). Great cars, and the Duratec engine seems bombproof. Sadly a bit of a rot box as Ford never rust proofed them. Also there is an EnduraKa racing scene. The racing guys always seems to be looking for low mileage, rust free cars and constant demand for donor cars!

      @@glpilpi6209 exactly. the old Kent engine (laterly the Valencia & Endura-E) was a real gem. efficient and reliable with reasonably good longevity - you don't get many British-European Ford petrol engines that tick all those boxes. shame they didn't put hydraulic followers in the valve gear to shut it up but I guess the bean counters probably shut down that idea.

    Back in the late 90s I got the "pleasure" of using 1 of these as a courtesy car when the company car I usually drove was in for repairs. Once inside it I was quite surprised at how large it seemed for such a strange looking car from the outside - these were way ahead of their time when first launched and you either loved them or hated them. Most guys wouldnt want to be seen dead in one to be honest, they looked like Noddy cars, and I think they were really aimed at young people, especially ladies.
    I thought they were noisy and tappety with such an unrefined engine, which was hardly surprising since the only engine Ford to get to fit in it was the one originally fitted back in 1959 to the Ford Anglia. It was really wierd really to create such a futuristic looking small car for its time, but put such an archaic engine in it that was 37 years old in design even when the KA launched in 1996.
    Was glad when the KA went back to the rental place and I got my van back, and have never driven one again since. As I say, for the right person, they are ideal, but a guy in his 20s they were not for me - sorry.

    • @carukchannel
      @carukchannel  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for sharing steve, the older engines were noisy and really outdated, unrefined. The engine in this one which came in late 02 really gave the car a new lease of life and kept it going for some years. To be fair most I ever sold were to woman

    • @stevejones1972
      @stevejones1972 Рік тому +1

      @@carukchannel The replacement for the Kent engine should have been the engine they used right from the start back in 1996, but from what I understood, back in 1996 Ford did not have any modern engines that would fit under the bonnet, and were forced to use the Kent engine as they hadnt got any others in development to use. To be honest, a little 1.0 engine would have been better for the KA than a 1.3. If I was to have to have a small car from that time period it would have been a 93-00 Corsa, they were much better to drive than the KA. Like you say, the replacement engine in 2002 did improve the KA no end, but it still had massive issues with corrosion in that panel round the fuel filler cap - pretty much every one I ever saw in later years had rust bubbling up round the filler cap. To find one of 20 years old with no rust in that area is pretty much a miracle to be honest - I think you could ask a grand for that car easily and a young girl will come along and snap it up as a first car - they still will have their fans, even the Mk1. Best of luck with its sale!

    Trade it on and make a couple of hundred quid with no hassle. Repairing it properly will cost you time, effort and probably 500+ notes leaving an additional profit of only £300.

Curious to know what to look out for specifically if a car has very low mileage (apart from corrosion of sills and petrol cap)? Any advice welcome. Going to view it tomorrow. 2006 KA model, 19,000 on clock. :)

    I never owned a KA but had a go in driving a couple of them and found they were OK, they handled better than my old MK 4 Fiesta, but I found the MK 1 Focus and the MK 3 Mondeo better cars

    The Ford Ka was the most shockingly thrown together heap of rust since the 1970s. They were rusty in the showroom. An utterly foul heap of junk from start to finish. We had the exhaust literally fall off one when the car was 18 months old. Not to mention the rust of course. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a Ka, of any mileage or condition. Good points? Well the engines outlive the bodywork I suppose and the fuel economy is quite good.

      I like the Negative comments, I'm guessing most had never driven one, For a car that cost peanuts from new they were perfect cheap reliable motoring, the handling was incredible, proper go cart abilities, mechanically strong and very cheap to repair, held good resale prices with a style which was love or hate!! Who cares about a bit of patina (rust) I'm sure it'll fly out the door...
