  • This is a solution that worked for me, and may not work for you, and I would say is NOT the ideal solution. The issue with vessel sinks, or any sink without an overflow type drain (serving as a vent) is the water is pushing air ahead in the pipe and causing a vaper type lock within the drain. The issue can be resolved by changing the drain to a push button style. A push button drain will most of the time allow the water to vent as it drains (same as if you had a fully open drain, with no grate). Some people say to use an 'air admittance valve' or AAV to solve the issue, but most of the time this will not fix the issue, as it is installed after the P-trap and normally used for sinks that are not vented to the roof. Another possible solution, that worked for me, is to change the structure of the grate type drain by drilling out a few of the drain holes. Doing this changes the dynamics of the drain and helps to prevent the grate style drain from forming a water lock. As you will see in the video, I initially drilled 4 holes, with some improvement, and then drilled a 5th hole in the center, and this pretty much solved my issue. I have used the sink now for 6 months or longer and it is draining fine. Every now and then it will form a lock and still drain slow, but it is 1000 times better than it was before I drilled the holes. So now you have the full story and you can decide if you want to attempt to drill the holes, it may or may not work for your situation. Enjoy the video and please subscribe!

The first time it's filled out takes about 8 seconds for the water to drain from the time it was at a certain level. Then immediately after you drilled the holes and rinsed the sink out, you filled the sink again and it still took 8 seconds to drain. Then you said it drains a lot better.
