I just cleaned my 2217 Eheim its been running for over 3 years with a intake pre-filter, it was finally showing low flow now its working like new again. My fish are so active now with the increase in water flow I also have a 2215 running too on a 90gl.
I just cleaned my classic 250. Only thing I would add to this is to fill the canister with aquarium water just enough to cover the top of the cage, then put the lid on. When you turn it back on it will help with removing air, mine starts straight away doing this. Secondly when removing impeller, use the plastic ring that you remove from around the surround of the impeller to hook out the impeller. The end of it that sits in the output hole has a hook. Took me about 15mins total to clean the filter which is why I like these filters very simple low cost. I often skip the hose cleaning as very little that's visible builds on mine and it takes to much time to strip that down.
I have the same filter. I suggest you keep the mechanical filtration in order... the filter floss should be following the coarse pad, not the media (it will clog it up). I had to cut a plant pot to size and drill holes in it to prevent it from being squished. Other than that, great video!
I’m new in the hobby I have this filter I like how you explain the process I’ve cleaned it twice already with this video and this last time I cleaned it the tubing is leaking from inlet and outlet and I already adjusted it and I keeps leaking I don’t know what caused it and how to go about it
I've cleaned the canister media plenty of times before but this was my first time cleaning the impellar. I made sure I put it all back together correctly, I double checked, and when I tried to start it up again it was making some horrible noises. It's functioning, water is pumping through it just fine, but now its way louder than it was. What can I do to correct this? I already tried taking it apart again to make sure I'd put everything back the right way..
Hey if Keith how maybe you could make a video or something but I had 2 perfectly running fluval 206 canister filters on my 90G puffer tank. This morning I did a water change and cleaned the filters and they both leaked from the clamp on the side profusely. The clamps did seem looser then usual. I went to big als and bought 2 new o rings and a new intake where you plug the hoses into the filter and nothing worked. That’s why I had to buy the eheim 600 filter. I now have 2 filters that were perfectly good up until now that don’t work anymore. If anyone knows what’s up please help me out!
Good afternoon. Please tell me if such a filter is suitable for a terrarium of 120 liters of water for a 17 cm red-eared turtle? I feed them in a separate bowl. Or buy EHEIM PROFESSIONEL 4+ 350?
Great video! Good explanation of all the steps. What size tank are you running that filter on? I have mine in a 29 gallon and it’s like a tornado in my tank.
i need some help, quick! how noisy is this filter? im purchasing a filter for my room and ill need to sleep 2 meters away from where it is running, can you hear it whilst it on?
Never worry about sounding noob because thats a great question. The filter itself you only change if it stops working or you need and upgrade for whatever reason. The stuff inside you only clean maybe once every 3 months it all depends on how much fish you have. And the only things you may want to ever change are the sponges and pads and thats only if they get super dirty to the point you cant clean them out good enough. Hope this helps
Watch Pondguru video shows the correct way to put the media in your Eheim canister filter & if you add a pre-filter sponge on your intake you should be good for over a year or more just rinse out the pre-filter every couple of months. I just cleaned my Eheim 2217 it was running since Sept 2015 the flow was slowing down finally. Eheim canisters are the best next to a sump.
How did you get the filter to self prime? If you took the tubes out to clean, dont you have to start the siphon again through the output and wait for the water to fill up?
The pipes you can use tap water but all the inside its best to use aquarium water. This is because the chlorine in tap water will kill all your beneficial bacteria which can cause your tank to recycle

Nice idea about the filter bags

So the inlet and oulet are screwed into place. Maybe try disconnecting the tube and twist them around to tighten them into place
great filter and great tutorial. have one on my 12 Gallon!!

One question: Which product brands do you recommend concerning the water changes? Asking for both filter media and chemical products. Great video btw!
I have only ever used the eheim filter media so im not the best person for this.
Good idea about the media bags. I just bought that filter today and I was wondering how I’d do that. Thumbs up
Taylor Morrissette thanksglad i helped

Taylor Morrissette i honeslty dont know much about filters so i cant really help hopefully someone else in the comments can.

Honestly no Idea. I dont know anything about turtle care

I recently switched it down to my 7.5 gallon cube. I like my tanks to be like tornados hahahaha.

No not at all I sleep with it right beside my bed sorry for taking so long to get back to you
Where can I purchase the media basket.. please share me the link.. I did not get that at when I got my eheim 2215
I honestly have no idea where you could get one
I don't think the 2215 model comes with a media bucket!!
hey i know this sounds noob but i got mine off kijiji works great had it for a month now just wondering how often or when should i change the filter?

@@KalemsFishtanks in every way thank you

every 2nd day
Great video. Thank you
You said the first step is to turn the filter off. Does that mean unplugging it ?
Yes it does thats the only way to turn it on or off
After the filter is cleaned and plugged in, do you need to put water in the canister to get it started ?
There needs to be water in it you can suck on the output to fill it up though
KalemsFishtanks does it need to be full ? And is the sucking necessary? Just cause I think it’s abit gross
KalemsFishtanks and am I putting tap water in it ? Or already used water from the tank v
@@cristinafantauzzi8373 it needs to be full so you could use a bucket to fill it up
KalemsFishtanks with already used water ? Or tap water ?
I unplugged power without closing the valves on my 2217 and the lid popped up, releasing three clips and causing a flood on my floor.
I did the exact same thing 😅
How did you get the filter to self prime? If you took the tubes out to clean, dont you have to start the siphon again through the output and wait for the water to fill up?
Yep!
Why not use tap water? For pipes and for things from the filter
The pipes you can use tap water but all the inside its best to use aquarium water. This is because the chlorine in tap water will kill all your beneficial bacteria which can cause your tank to recycle
What do you use to change your water ?
A python which hooks up to my sink
KalemsFishtanks where did you purchase it ? If I may ask
@@cristinafantauzzi8373 i got it at big als but I think petsmart may sell an aqueon versiob
Thanks for the info
Nice video bro
When priming it the filter, once the valves are open , how long should I wait for air to release and plug in the filter ?
Once air is done releasing it means its full. So once its done releasing air you plug it in
KalemsFishtanks so all 4 valves should be open ?
@@cristinafantauzzi8373 yes if any are closed water cant get in
KalemsFishtanks thank you ! So I’m waiting for the filter to fill with water , then I plug it in ?
@@cristinafantauzzi8373 yes exactly
Lifesaver
Never use that bags in a canister
why not?
I've come to see how to disconnect the filter safely from both lines but you decided to just skip that as if it's totally unimportant. go figure
You close the levers I didnt think it was rocket science
