Lithium is more expensive but you have to think in the long term. E lithium is safer and more durable. At least part of the installation should be lithium. nice project, bonito proyecto.
Noooooo! I told you last time to coat the copper wires and battery clamps with silicone grease. Also install fans in the shed wall to extract the acid fumes. And clean the battery posts with sodium bicarbonate in a little water. (It fizzes.) Then coat the installed terminal clamps with more silicone grease. Note: it's siliconE as used in false boobies, not SilicoN, which is a brittle element used in the manufacture of chips and electronic devices.
Last season, I bought the exact cooler you showed in the shot at the hardware store. It works super well. I got it at the end of summer and it was ~25% off.
Hot glue a penny near but not on the terminals of each battery. The acid will eat the penny instead of the lead terminals. when the pennies are gone, replace them. Think of it as a sacrificial anode.
Reduce boil below a very slow simmer ( 2.1 - 2.2 bubbles per minute) probably 2.15 - 2.2 volts per cell in that scorching hell heat. See batt temp chart and check temp probe and temp compensation setting or just do 2 15 volts per cell until then.
Atta boy on those new cables, before you know it you will have that place lit up like a casino, complete with neon lights! I've seen auto-fill for the batteries that are used on motor homes. Maybe one could be put on your system and you can keep the levels full on the batteries.
@@HerbOMatic taking a good long look at the water pump system is probably your best start on that. It's hard to believe that thing even works, let alone as well as it seems to be. It looks like it's one haboob or dust devil away from falling apart! Some kind of hut or shack over the equipment would be a great idea. Or maybe using a small vault you could bury and only have a power cutoff above ground. @@henrywright2230I’d forget the V tail for number of reasons already on utube. I didn’t get enough flying in my friends ercoupe ! Xcross winds look pretty fierce. I’m only a severe VFR pilot!
It would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and many, many hours to get either of those planes into flyable condition again, probably even more than that for the v-tail one since it has lots of unique parts that haven't been manufactured for years. And it's likely EVERYTHING will need to be taken apart and rebuilt from scratch, since there's no way the maintenance history is within a decade of being up to spec. The right thing to do with both is to find a different crazy person to buy them, and let THEM deal with the thousands of hours of work. Those are the kind of projects where you do nothing else during them, not a little side gig while putting a house into working order. The good news is that they both will probably sell for a lot, even if just for parts.

If you slowly pour hot water over that corrosion not allowing any to get inside your batteries, it will dissolve away and run to the floor. Rinse your floor to clean that away. Dry the tops of your batteries then grease your terminal connections. Your corrosion and acid problem will be gone for a while.

I have but solar has come so far, also our wind is gnarly I wonder if it would tear up the equipment. I'm going to experiment with everything.
@@HerbOMatic Idunno, dude! I've done a little work with solar, but I have no idea about wind, since it's just not a feasible option where I live. My solar system at my retreat property needs some help. I need to figure out why my unit's not working.
@@hrdknox2000 Ya wind turbines tends to be expensive , lot of work to install properly , noisy / annoying and only work in strong consistent wind - but not light wind or gale force - only this special middle ground that rarely happens . Solar is probably the best bet . Also nobody wants Buster the Maintenance Cat to get his nose slapped off by a turbine blade while doing his maintenance rounds . Because I know my cats would sniff the heck out of a spinning blade , they just would .
@@SabbaticusRex Damn! Very valid points you raise, sir!
13k on "your" trailer. Ha! 😂
Love ya bud.
Thanks man! I was bluffing a bit there.
Ya, i knows, i love your humor and the way you and the wife bounce it back and forth is awesome. Love thiis channel and you guys. You are doing great and making great progress. Keep up the great work. @HerbOMatic
"I can't teach you everything, David. Just fold it in."
I'm sorry for you both; hang in there. FYI, the desert will cure you of any flip-flop or sandal habit you might have. Thanks for another great episode.😎☘️
Please remember to leave plenty of water out for Buster / Maintenance Cat, especially if you're feeding him dry food.
There's something about your pioneering spirit that I like..
The audio adventure was quite good!
I kept imagining racks at that point . . .
Nice giant clam!
It's really something how these videos seem like they shouldn't be that compelling, but I keep ending up watching them from beginning to end like little else out there.
I have found that good dark sunglasses are beneficial for looking at racks.
Keep your cables as short as you can. Use grease on your terminals🎉
Lithium is more expensive but you have to think in the long term. E lithium is safer and more durable. At least part of the installation should be lithium. nice project, bonito proyecto.
My OCD is going nuts over the condition of the battery terminals.....
OMG those LA Batteries look bad - I think I would get some Battleborn batteries ASAP
That High Plains Drifter music.. I keep expecting to see Clint Eastwood 😝
Nice 1 Herb keep the jokes and handy tips coming. Sorry for your loss.
Last season, I bought the exact cooler you showed in the shot at the hardware store. It works super well. I got it at the end of summer and it was ~25% off.
Always happy to see a herb upload!
Hot glue a penny near but not on the terminals of each battery. The acid will eat the penny instead of the lead terminals. when the pennies are gone, replace them. Think of it as a sacrificial anode.
I guess that would work since the pennies are Zinc! Never head of it before.
nothing like a beautiful sunset to finish the day
Reduce boil below a very slow simmer ( 2.1 - 2.2 bubbles per minute) probably 2.15 - 2.2 volts per cell in that scorching hell heat. See batt temp chart and check temp probe and temp compensation setting or just do 2 15 volts per cell until then.
If you wear nothing else aways wear calf length boots!
Haha! Jokes n you- not a Perron, beautiful Sunset! 🌅
lol when I saw that dust cloud I was waiting for the theme song from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" **whistle** wah wah waaah haha
Back in the 90's in New Mexico...I would double up the cooler pad and upgraded to a higher cfm pump...Made quite the difference!
Atta boy on those new cables, before you know it you will have that place lit up like a casino, complete with neon lights! I've seen auto-fill for the batteries that are used on motor homes. Maybe one could be put on your system and you can keep the levels full on the batteries.
Really sorry to hear the news, hope Kylie is ok, everything will be fine next time, hope you both are doing fine, take some time off!
The light string shows what a struggle electricity is at that house.
I am eyeballing whole new system hard.
@@HerbOMatic Black is the hot lead.
@@petercolquhoun2086 In this house, I'm not sure I would count on that being true - too much "mickey mouse" construction by the former owner.
The ranch being in high desert makes it possible to get away with things like exposed electrical boxes (with indoor-grade light switches!) outside, but ... yikes. This whole place screams "DIY everywhere by someone who didn't even watch some youtube videos first".
Hi, I was just curious, if this place once fixed to your desired level will be your primary home or a holiday place?
Primary
Only home, the other one is in the process of being rented out.
@@HerbOMatic wow, that’s amazing. Best of luck with all the hard work learning to live off grid and how expensive initially that will be. I really look forward to your adventures.
Big dog I like what your doing with the estate and your inside jokes and humor is hilarious but I would like to see more on the airplane. What are you gonna do with it? Try to get it flying and more repairs on the property like the hanger the house you guys are awesome.
@@henrywright2230I’d forget the V tail for number of reasons already on utube. I didn’t get enough flying in my friends ercoupe !
Xcross winds look pretty fierce. I’m only a severe VFR pilot!
@@JohnKenIRB233 he is going to air force surplus next week
Every time I watch you, I laugh at myself for thinking I could do what your doing now, when I looked at your place I foolishly thought I could handle it solo. NOT !! Carry on I do enjoy watching. Second star to the right, straight on till morning ✌️
Didnt notice that the Sunset was only for Patreons until it was too late, so I sent you a $5 superchat to cover this months mistake. How about a little more notice next time please :)
Alright, I'll put my crow bar away and leave your closet. Your kneecaps are safe! Thanks for kicking in man!
I'm having a fantastic time watching your video and your seance of humour but I'm surprised your good lady hasn't hit you over the head with a rock with all the micky tacking you send her way but you look a pear well matched, I haven't seen your back catalogue of videos but I will get around to it as soon as I can this airfield ranch you have bought is my idea of absolute heaven no neighbours to give you greff but plenty to keep you occupied, thank you for some great videos im really enjoying them. p/s((tell Wife to buy a good pair of leather boot it will help stop a snake bite))
Thanks Mick, we're trying to find the time to go boot shopping! The ranch really is a fantasy come true.
If you slowly pour hot water over that corrosion not allowing any to get inside your batteries, it will dissolve away and run to the floor. Rinse your floor to clean that away. Dry the tops of your batteries then grease your terminal connections. Your corrosion and acid problem will be gone for a while.
Wait until you go in the tool shed to finally sort it and find 28 battery terminals 😅 my grampa always bought double for later
Lol, my grandpa had a starter go out ONCE and from then on he carried a spare starter in the trunk of every car he ever owned.
@@HerbOMatic when we cleaned out the shed he had brand new unopened tools and parts to vehicles he never owned. He was a product of the depression and I learned a lot from that, hoarding isn't bad because you'll use it eventually or pass it to the family later. The disposable generation has a lot to learn, I just made $75 from aluminum cans they put in the garbage.
11:45 as a David who works in an office full of Schitts Creek fans, i immediately got that reference. Ew David!
That stupid show could not have pulled it off without that cast. I've seen what I needed to see! It's very quotable.
With the wind you do have you should have a wind mill turbine for power + conpressor for AC, and maybe check if you can reach the aquaduct!!!
Put red and green felt washers und batt. Cable ends stops Oxidation in auto by battery parts !!!
Don't know about regular trailers but on semi-wheel bearings, you use temperature-specific grease, just a bit of handy info.
You got to get some of those Edison Motors Solar trailers.
Talking of folding it in ... i have a seven incher ... but i never use it as a rule !!! thank you and goodnight
Remove the leads from the cells ,wire brush the terminals ,clean it all up , put vaseline on the terminals , put the links back on ,put more vaseline on the connections, top up the batteries with distilled water ,Clean up the mess
I agree with everything except the Vaseline tip. Petroleum Jelly melts and runs off as a liquid at 100F degrees. It's why it's horrible in engine compartments. Being the battery shack is indoors and in the desert, I'm sure that shack will be above 100F. They better option is high temperature grease like axle grease. And it would appear he had a lot of john deere grease. Lol!
With all that wind . I can see a wind turbine. But $$$$. Fun with the tractor grading to the water tank and front yard in the future.
Now you got a short time before baby Herb demands a room that is not same temperature as the sun.
Oh and my wife wants a due date.
You need to do a start-up video on that grader that would be awesome
Herb for water tanks wile tanks in Amarillo Texas. I used to set up water hull systems and rain collection. They will save you money.
