The flood is so real with Esper 26-land decks sometimes. It's probably up there among the most common ways I lose games with Esper. It's always weird seeing you mill yourself with the Enter, but I suppose it's one of those "if I don't, there's a miniscule chance I just lose outright" vs "possibly milling my best cards" situations
I was thinking of getting into best of three, but that makes me have to grind for 75 cards rather than 60. Still, after a few months playing bo1, it is clear which format magic was really tailored around.
Thanx for the content CGB, nice to see esper midrange in action. I have been working on your grixis control list you showed us a couple of days ago. Doing great on bo3 and fnm’s with my own sideboard. Was really wondering if you’re going to make a grixis Bo3 in the future, really wonder what you’re side board plan would be. Esper control is a hard match up after boarding atm
I haven't played many sideboarded games with grixis because I don't like it for competitive formats as much as Esper, but that is personal preference. At this point you are better equipped to make a Grixis sideboard plan than I am
Im casual mostly b/c im not willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for wildcards to build a deck that is tier 1 for at most until the next set releases. So im playing unranked almost exclusively which is BO1. THEY pushed BO1 because their monetization framework is absurdly expensive. It's basically most of the price of a paper deck, which is more than magic online, but unlike both paper magic and magic online you cannot resell the cards so you're just out that cash. I already dumped some money in but I straight up refuse to give them more money until they make it more economical b/c I'm not spending hundreds of dollars every year just to pay2win for a tier 1 deck that's competitive on ladder.
instead of time reveler you should use Gideon for early pressure it became the key to life lol its the answer to everything even going to the bank lol.
Please tell your editor that the intro music is way too loud compared to the rest of the video. And speaking of the intro, I think its tacky and pointless. Just my opinion, but it's hard to argue that it adds anything to the video or channel. It's just bland and meh if you ask me.
Yes, it does. Arclight Phoenix is a creature permanent and its mana cost is 3R (although players typically build decks to cheat it out for 0 mana), so its converted mana cost is indeed 4 or more. Therefore Arclight Phoenix is a valid target for Despark to exile.
really? this deck loses to monored, orsov trash, mono green and so on. just because some dude was lucky in his meta doenst make the deck worth to mention. everything below 60% on autopilot is just a waste of time. EVERY other esper control brew at the moment will beat this without sideboard..if you start on draw vs esper you can concede.
At 51:50, why did you sac the amass 4/4 to liliana instead of one of the 2/2s? You would have an 8/8 token, instead of a new 4/4...
I wondered the same thing. I think he just wanted more different bodies
I'd say he thought it was like midnight reaper, if the're tokens you don't draw (with lili you do tho)
you got it
wide over tall like Chantal Beck said.
Ahh, I see..thx!
You explain this very well, Esper is great, but hard for me to play. This helps! Thanks CGB!

Discard not only throws away the opponent's next move but also lets you expect future plans.

The downside is that nexus of fate exist in bo3
agree 100%
Most sideboard cards are cheap tho, Moment of Craving, Duress, Negate, these can be a big chunk of the board.
Sorry to ask for this CGB: Can we get an esper control build? Specifically for BO1.

@@covertgoblue Thanx for the reaction. Keep up the good work!
We need an updated Esper Control list from you!
I posted my 8 teferi list earlier this month
@@covertgoblue thank you.
i like the new intro
Thanks, too bad I have to change the movie, copystrikes!
Ooohhhhhh is this a new intro animation?! Nice
"against the emote spam of the century" lmaoo
games showed how fragile is this midrange variant
and how bad my sideboarding was, but sideboarding gets better with practice, I won the next 5 matches I played
Great Ted talk intro
nice list thank u
Oooh new intro. Snazzy.
Last game would have been so easy with 1 Cry of the Carnarium. Same for the Knights.
There is an 11th commandment. Thou shalt not play esper, lest thou art a bitch
Ashoka dream renader wouldn't be a bad add in. It counters aristocrats running revival/revenge, golgari, and arclight Phoenix decks decently
Maybe in the board if graveyards are the reason we are losing.
NICE!
Thought Erasure
Thief of Sanity
Hostage Taker are by far the most cancerous cards I've ever played against.
Not even mono red is that annoying.
Too bad there isn't a esper control matchup, I would have liked to see how you'd sideboard vs control.
Against the birds you could have killed 1 bird and ego to get 3 of 4 birds and see their hand
the auto tapper took your blue source for the spell pierce away at 59:43 anyway so spell pierce was never going to be an option :( Damn auto tapper!
Aquitanius oh yeah, My bad! I was routing for Esper midrange so badly 😩
add lyra? why can't chromium ever get any love in his own damn colors ;_;
yea i dont know why but everyone hates chromium, just go read reddit
Because he sucks.
All the check lands is a big oof.

Hard disagree with cutting Sorin in the 3rd game against Phoenixes.
Man.... you beat me to making the Izzet joke in the comments by doing it yourself in the video. So rude. =P
instead of time reveler you should use Gideon for early pressure it became the key to life lol its the answer to everything even going to the bank lol.
I use gideon's instead as well. Good tip.
Who the hell plays Knights in Diamond? Is it even a competitive deck?
It is close with all the new planeswalkers to diversify threats against control and midrange
Go Blue...ish
How do I direct challenge you?
Your intro is too loud. It's about twice as loud as you are in the video.
Davriel doesn't make it. Ashiok wins against Find/Finality and ArcLight decks. Deputy of Detentions always goes with time wipe.

despark dont hit arclight

"Exile target permanent with converted mana cost 4 or greater". Arclight Phoenix's type: creature. Arclight Phoenix's converted mana cost: 4.
