How did Monitors evolve after the Civil War?

- The US Navy relied on Civil War-era ships until the 1880s. The Virginius Affair made the Navy realize that it needed to modernize. With little financial support from Congress, several monitors were re-built using new design concepts and construction methods. Several new classes of monitors - the New Navy monitors - were constructed in the 1890s. Even though they were used into the 20th century, they had poor seakeeping qualities and could only be used for coastal defense. As the age of the Dreadnought dawned, these New Navy monitors were a complete waste of money.

Whilst naval history has been a hobby of mine for more decades than I care to admit....I have to say I learned quite a bit here.
Good job, sir!
Love monitors, them and ironclads are the beginnings of the great Battleships of the 20th century.
Monitors were great for rover battles but not so much in the ocean. If only they didnt move so slow
Fascinating stuff
The old "Ship of Theseus" argument. With a healthy helping of sailor's shadiness...
Ahhh. A man all about the meat and potatoes. By jove jolly good chap
@Drachenifel
Ok. If you can’t speak. Don’t attempt lecture.
Isn't that for the attendees and viewers to decide, in general? And I have heard MUCH worse speakers. He's a bit monotonic I'll grant you, but his content and language is good. This is a talk from a Mariner's Museum, not a major corporation or college, so there's that, too. Do you have any videos of you lecturing or speaking, so I could compare?
He is not bad. You should have had some of my college professors!
This wasnt bad at all. A little sporadic but not bad at all imo
