    Nicholas, another great video! Looking forward to your F16V5 tutorial and videos of your Christmas light display. It always helps to grab the XLights around the world sequences 🙌!

      Thanks! I'm definitely planning on getting the XLAW sequence (probably doing shut up and dance) but they seem to be taking longer than normal to get it out 😂

    I love my F16 and F48 that are years old and the stuff they packed into the V5 is amazing.

    Thanks for your video - I placed my order right after watching it 😁. My first controller, as I'm working with FPP and a bunch of ESP32's with ESPixelStick. 🙃

    hey mate, love the video, though i made my first mistake and didn check that i had wired the postive the V1, it was to GRD and popped a few ports. How repairable are these?

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  6 місяців тому

      Sorry for the late response. Was it only V1 you powered backwards? Does the actual controller still work? I know the grounds on V1 and V2 are connected together, so I'm afraid the controller could be damaged because of this. What exactly do you mean by popped a few ports? Do you mean you blew fuses? If it's a V4 or older model, you'll have to replace the fuse. If it's a V5, the fuses should automatically reset when you disconnect then reconnect power. If I could know what exactly popped, I could help a bit more.

    What does the Monitor and Visualize Tab Do? The external fuse control connectors are used to tell the Distros when to power on/off the pixels. As with the V5 it shuts off power with no data. And the reason for the universe start in the pixel output settings is because it is not on Absolute Addressing .

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  8 місяців тому

      The monitor tab opens a window where you can have all your controller stats show up. When I click it, it just shows my one controller's IP address, volts, and temperature. But if I had more controllers, I could have all of them show up on this tab. The visualize button opens a window that shows all the pixels set up on each port. It's really cool because if you have the new V5 smart receivers, it also shows the fuse status and even how many amps are going through each port. If you don't have the V5 receivers and you have older ones, it will just show the estimated amperage based on the brightness and how many pixels are on each port. It almost works like the Xlights visualizer.
      As for the external fuse control connectors, I found that out after doing a lot of digging online. It's really hard to use a new controller when there's no manual for it yet 😂

    Hey Nicholas and friends,
    I realize this isn't what this video is about, but i'm in desperate need of assistance and forums have left me empty handed. Thus far I have learned all the major components of this hobby from your channel and for that I am very thankful.
    Setup:
    I recently received my order of an Alphapix classic 4 V3 along with a handful of 50 node smart pixel strings.
    Here's my issue:
    When I connect any of the strings i ordered to my controller and put it into test mode I am unable to achieve "test mode 1. Black". In other words I can't make the lights turn off all the way.They will always have an output that is sometimes white, sometimes blue, it changes seemingly randomly. The lights will otherwise listen to all commands exactly as intended. I went though every default test mode the board had to offer just to check and everything from test mode 2 - 28 worked perfectly as expected except for the test to turn the lights off or any mode that requires nodes to be turned off. Theres just always light coming from nodes that aren't receiving an active command.
    I would be so thankful to you Nicholas or anyone else who might have suggestions on how to solve this issue. I have been in troubleshooting mode for three days now and only have another week and a half to have the lights fully implemented my local theatre's stage. AKA I'll try anything to get this working at this point.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help.

      Hmm this is really strange; I've never heard of this issue before. What type of pixels are they? Are they WS2811? I've never used and Alphapix controllers so I'm not quite sure how they work, but is it just the test mode that won't turn off the pixels? If you were to run a sequence with some colors then have lights to turn black, will they turn black? If they do then it sounds like something wrong with the controller, maybe they don't have it programmed to turn all the lights off or something.

    I just got my F16v5 yesterday. My first ever Pixel controller. Just struggling to get Rpi 3B+ to put it online. FPP v7.2 Static routing. I have my router set but it can't be reached when I plug ethernet into Rpi and F16v5 RPI can be reached but not the F16v5 been on that for like 5 hours now. Maybe if you get a bit of time you can do a video on how to use RPI player to send to F16v5 board. Appreciate all you do!

      Sorry to jump on a reply meant for Nicholas but just seeing if I can help. Have you set up a separate network for your show, for example most things on your network are 192.168.1.xx but your show has a static of 192.168.2.xx . ?

      @@johnn1474 Great tip! That was the issue. I was using all 192.168.1 just different last .xxx. Changed the controller and Lan port to 192.168.2 and worked instantly. Crazy how the simplest things can sometimes stall us for hours. Thanks

    Are the mounting holes the same for the F16v5 as they were for the F16V4? Also, are the mounting holes the same for the V5 receivers as they were for the V4 receivers?

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  8 місяців тому

      I'm not sure because I never bought the V4, but they do not align with the V3 holes. If the F16v4 has the same holes as the V3, then it won't align with the V5. However, if you bought a Falcon mounting plate such as the one sold on Wired Watts here www.wiredwatts.com/mprni1500f#pic3 then the F16v5 will still fit in there using all 4 holes, you'll just have to use different holes on the mounting plate. As for the V5 receivers, they have all the screw holes in the corners, and they line up with my V2 and V3 receivers, so I think they're the same as the V4.

    Can we use it control dmx type led pixel ?

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  4 місяці тому

      Yes! This controller has 1 universe of DMX data available that you can program it to control. The DMX data comes out of the red ethernet port all the way on the right side of the board.

    Did you have any issue doing an FPP connect to the F16V5, i haven't gotten mine to connect.

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  9 місяців тому

      To be completely honest, I haven't tried connecting my F16v5 to FPP yet. I haven't used it much since I've been so busy (and behind) setting up this year's Christmas show. Maybe try ask for help on Falcon Christmas if you can't get it to work.

    • @nix8242
      @nix8242 9 місяців тому

      No chance, it will never show up in FPP connect, I tried anything. If your WIFI is broken (Error 404), just flash the same firmware build 28, but this does not fix the FPP connect issue.

    hi there i got a question to ask you i have 2 power surply running my show i got one running 8 ports on my controller and the other one has 2 ports running the question is could i power inject some of the props on the first 8 ports on the second power surply thank you

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  8 місяців тому +1

      If the power injection is going to be on the same power supply as the ports the lights are on, then yes you can. If the power injection is going to be on a different power supply then the ports the lights are on, then you can still power inject, but you have to cut the positive wire on the pixels halfway through. So if I have a strand of 100 pixels with power at the beginning from the controller, and then power injection at the end with a different power supply, I would have to cut the positive wire between pixel 50 and 51. This is because you don't want the power to back feed from one supply to another. You can keep the ground and data wire, just split the positive wire in the middle of the strand.

    There are alot of mechanical failure points on that led controller. It's wildy over-priced in my opinion. Not a troll, just an opinion. Apologies if offended.

    • @How2Pixel
      @How2Pixel  8 місяців тому

      I'm not offended, I like hearing everyone's opinion. I'd just like to know what do you think are the failure points on it? I also agree it's over-priced, I just don't know much about circuit boards and wouldn't know how to make one myself haha. I know (for me at least) Falcon controllers have been very reliable, and I think the features they have are really good, so that's why I recommend them to a lot of people.
