Brooooo, hearing you talk about Yu-Gi-Oh birthday parties reminded me of some of the best of those when I was a young teenager. Myself and all of my friends each had their own Yu-Gi-Oh birthday party when we were in our early teens. Most of these parties were basically just eight person tournaments with like a prize card to be given out by usually the person whose birthday it was. One of them, however, was a battle City style tournament because he had a huge yard with a small Forest behind it. We each had our own starting locations out of us 12. Truly was a blast that I will never forget in my entire life.
I do also remember all of the old Yu-Gi-Oh merch that was available back in the day. I had one of those Yami Yugi skateboards. It was a terrible skateboard, but was a great collector's piece.
Thank you guys as always for hosting such a wonderful podcast. Happy birthday to the pod and long live the pod of greed!

What makes your show and podcasts so good is that you guys have a strong passion for yugioh and other trading card games, but yet are down to Earth and understand that you have an obsession where you can laugh about it. It's great! Awesome podcast i look forward to it every week.

  • @aiyayayagenshin6098

Ill also explain in Yu-Gi-Oh terms
The Stellar Blade controversy is mostly just an extension of all the times the western market has censored some games but not others. Like Last of Us 2. The infamous Abigail in bed scene and all the times blood and gore was not censored in GTA games (along with way more i dont know about)
For Yu-Gi-Oh. Think of it as LART. 99/100 the cards really dont need to be censored. But they censor it anyway and then resold it to us as Lost Art Collection.
Stellar Blade is basically the most recent "victim" to the trend. And it happens to be one of the more mainstream ones

    • @SnowCompanion
      @SnowCompanion Місяць тому +1

I agree, it's annoying they western devs gas up their own sex scenes from tlou2 to BG3 erotica. I enjoy BG3, Nikke, and stellar blade while criticizing stuff like Stellar Blade. There's no reason why you can't enjoy these games just cause there's sexual themes in it.

Producers, directors, and all sorts of execs will blame anyone but their greedy selves, specially the consumers.
The censorship argument isnt really about the T&A but about the censorship in general. Cos companies will take the lack of a response as a sign that thwy can keep doing it. They also rely on people having the response Paul is having, "They're just being whiney and look at what they're whining about, isnt pathetic?"

    • @ducky36F
      @ducky36F Місяць тому +1

First part, agree with a 100%. Second part, nah it really is just whiny and pathetic.
Here’s the thing, people think crying “censorship” about things like this is drawing a line or some s***, it ain’t. All it does is ensure no one will take the gaming community seriously if it serious censorship happens. No one not in the bubble looks at this and thinks “yeah that’s justified”. They look at it and think the gaming weirdos and whinging they have to work 5% harder to have a perv.

The majority of people outside that bubble think *that* is what is asinine. Gaming companies have done and continue to do worse things that have actual impact greater than some people having their ability to ogle diminished.
Micro transactions and bs DLC have infiltrated almost the entirety of the gaming landscape? I sleep. Working conditions at major developers are horrible and the industry is laying off people en masse or shuttering studios costing thousands of the people who make the games we enjoy their livelihoods? Congrats on the anniversary guys! I've listened to every episode since you started and it's one of my favourite broadcasts to put on when building model kits.
Which brings me to my favourite fandom in Gundam. I always lived Sci-Fi and whilst Gundam might not be the 'best' Sci-Fi overall it is the most entertaining to me.
With all the different types of shows the franchise tends to stay interesting even if it can be hit or miss for me personally. Gunpla also introduced me to building model kits which has become one of my favourite ways to spend my free time and got me through some difficult years in my past. Coincidentally I just finished the Exodia kit from Bandai this week so it's standing in front of my tv as I'm watching the pod right now which feels very fitting.
Keeo up the good work guys and I hope you continue with the pod for many more years!🎉

the pokemon tcg points thing is that different countries have different levels of qualifying points. idk the exact numbers but say americans needs 500 points but brazilians need 300 points. this is probably because its harder to run events in brazil (in this example) and the point requirement directly correlates with how many events are run. but what this means is that if youre rich and can travel you have more opportunities to go to different events from other countries and not only that but by doing it you in a sense "take away" points from people of that country. an example was the london nationals where 1st/2nd place were guys from australia and peru. honestly i think this might be why konami wont let non japanese participate in nationals. also my fav fandom is team aps! guys at the shop who like team aps are much cooler pls count this as my pot entry:)

Happy 1st anniversary! I remember watching the first pod and have been watching ever since. I gotta say I got hooked on yugioh in my last year of highschool by my friends and got hooked. I watched the anime, read through the manga, played the weird spin off games and of course play the tcg. I love how unlike Pokémon and some other battle anime’s, you actually get to play the game they are playing in the show. It feels very immersive at times. It’s a game that can really tie together your friendships and meet new friends. My highschool friends still keep in touch through yugioh so it holds a very special place in my heart. I think it’s best shown through you guys at team aps. As it’s clear that yugiohs done the same thing for you guys! Can’t wait for more yugioh from team aps!

  • @DitzyClips

I mean, without a doubt the fandom that had the biggest impact on me was definitely Yugioh. Growing up, the first manga series I started collecting was the original Yugioh! graphic novels when I was first introduced to the franchise via somebody bringing in the VHS of 4Kids Yugioh! Vol 2 when Yugi duels Weevil... I immediately fell in love with the series and found it very gratifying that I had the OG series. I felt like I had all the context to what the yugioh universe was really supposed to be about and re-read them all CONSTANTLY. The series had been out for a few years by the time I started getting the books, but I got to get the last few volumes as the released before the Duelist Kingdom manga started releasing and I was all over that and their loose definitions of how this card game was even supposed to be played. I also collected all the original DVD releases, but I'll never forget the day... My mom hands me a package that had just came in from express delivery and I open it to see the first 2 DVDs for BATTLE CITY?! I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEY COULD DO THAT- I was SO HYPE. The brief return of Bandit Keith, watching Seeker say that he has the only 3 surviving copies of Exodia in this deck, Yugi's 5-head Lightforce Sword play... its SO nostalgic and engrained in me. I was an only-child and had nobody to play the TCG with that knew the rules (well, tributing at least). Everyone had only seen Duelist Kingdom, so explaining the real rules was impossible to anybody while they had their 200 card deck on the table turn-one summoning Dark Paladin from their hand. I did have a few gameboy games for yugioh, namely Sacred Cards (goated) and Reshef of Darkness, which is Sacred Cards' port clone made into the most absurdly frustrating game I've ever played.... You get your lifepoints back between duels by going home and saving at your PC but the entire start of the game is a tournament on a train you can't get off of!
Anyway, yeah. I love the lore of early yugioh so flipping much. I loved GX as well, its definitely more entertaining as a cartoon. 5D grew on me with its dystopian gritty social commentary and its direct connection to the domino city continuity Tetsuo Trudge was Yugi's school bully hall monitor who worked Yugi up to the point where he was able to finish solving the Millenium Puzzle after standing up for the dumbnamic duo and fundamentally altering Joey's outlook on life forever. Its all kinda poetic, or it is to me anyway. Pendulums tilted me so I took a break from staying up-to-date until Duelist Alliance in 2016 and slowly got back in to the TCG through your channels. Honestly, the absurdity of the state of the game around Master Rule 5 made me actually start looking into the game seriously again lol. You guys are a pretty massive reason I was able to even reconnect with modern yugioh in a digestible way. so, thanks... heres to another year of podcasting!

Yugioh is my favourite fandom because it grew up with me. When I left the game to go through early adulthood, I changed a lot. At the same time, Yugioh changed a lot too. So when I came back to yugioh after covid. It was like reuniting with an old friend. We're still the same people, but we needed to get reacquainted and adapt to the new versions of ourselves. And I think that's pretty poetic.

As someone who has been playing commander for the past 3ish years, I will say that especially once you get into the layers of continuous effects and have to remember the timestamps for different cards and such, it can get really confusing really quick.
I will say that my favorite official ruling for any MTG card is for Apex Devastator, who just has Cascade 4 times as it's effect. One of its rulings just ends by saying "the stack can get messy, and we wish you luck."

My favorite fandom, I guess it would be the anime fandom; yugioh, naruto, and dragon ball z. The yugioh anime is the reason I got into the card game when I was a kid, I dropped off around 5D's. My favorite fandom It took me a minute to figure this out but in terms of money, time, size of collection, community, and knowledge of it Yu-Gi-Oh wins on all fronts so I would say Yu-Gi-Oh is my favorite fandom. On why Yu-Gi-Oh has been there always in my life it feels like since my childhood best friend Tyreek introduced it to me in 1st grade and everyone played it during recess and on the bus and then in middle school moved halfway across the country and made new friends and they also played liked and played Yu-Gi-Oh and then even now in adulthood i feel out of it during Covid and just started playing again in January and some friends still play and some don’t but you make new friends at locals and ig my point is that for the last 22 years Yu-Gi-Oh has always helped me make new friends and that’s why it’s my favorite fandom.

I personally think pendulums whole issue is the insane special summoning portion. If a spell/monster existed that had the unique effects of being both a unique continuous spell but also a monster without the scales I think we could have saw something more similar to decks now.
Perhaps that's why so many decks are treating monsters as face-up continuous traps/spells in their effects.

Paul's advice is the best advice for social anxiety in general. Humans are freaking weird, and accepting that makes accepting yourself easier.
Performance anxiety never goes away for some of us, so learning to recognize it and focus through is necessary. I tend to identify the physicological signs and focus on gaining control over my body. Cracking a pack or doing anything not related to the upcoming match is also valid. What works for everyone is different. The underlying principle is recognizing anxiety and finding a way to regain internal control

Given what they've done with giving some of the Maximum Monsters in Rush Duels "border breaking" artwork, I could easily see them making 3+ cards have connected artwork and have some of the art extend outside of the normal artwork borders to connect together to display the set together so it makes a complete picture.

My favorite fandom? I’m not too certain, in fact I think “fans” are some of the most toxic people to be around because of how passionate they are, although it’s not a bad thing. I do like various communities though, sometimes, most days. Yesterday I found out one of my coworkers played Yugioh, and basically we ended up talking about our favorite decks, the metas we entered the game in, when and why we stopped keeping up with the physical game, our favorite moments. It’s honestly refreshing how passionate as fans we can be. I enjoy seeing the community jump up at the newest card reveal/leak and theory craft. I think what really exemplifies a fandom more than shipping wars and elitism is the people. The community sharing moments, games, decks, and being so passionate about their hobby that it can just leak out into casual conversation. Yugioh is great sometimes, the people similarly, but the memories I’ll cherish.

Favorite fandom: Megaman. As a fan of that franchise, it's great to see all the love and passion from the fans even though Capcom refuses to acknowledge the Blue Bomber. They are carrying the franchise on their back, honestly.
I also think that in general, smaller fanbases are almost always less toxic.

Im 100% with yall on stellar blade. Its the weirdest hill to die on because it has no impact on the gameplay. And to outright say adding lace or changing the cut is inherently less sexy implies that sex appeal is objective and not subjective.
Glad to see you guys doing more digimon and magic. One of the best ways to appreciate any of these games is to play others and find things you love in the broader genre.
Pokemon is the most simplified tcg I've played and it's only fun to me when i just want a different pokemon experience.

I'm a fan of Monster Club personally.
It's a niche little card game produced by a small team out of Europe that captures the spirit of watching the early Duelist Kingdom days of the anime with a blend of Rush Duels.
The card art is spectacularly well done, the game simple and an absolute blast to play with a friend!
They've done a great job so far and wish them nothing but success going forward.
