I grew up un Yuma, and my Optometrist Dr. Phil Burdick owned the Rob Roy mine adjacent to the KOFA mine. We took an underground journey back in the early 70's from the RR, clear thru to the KOFA. It took a couple days, all of it in tunnels some of which were so small it was done on our bellys. There was a huge chamber partway thru, with a ceiling some hundreds of feet high. The tailings pile of the RR amounted to some 600,000 tons, and Doc said if you wanted to spend some hours, gold could be extracted using modern methods, but not much $ in your pocket. Each of us had to carry a small bag of bat guano out, fertilizer for the caretakers' garden. Dr. Burdick passed away a couple years ago in his 90's, I sure do miss him. Dennis
Thank you for sharing that story with the channel. It is always interesting to hear from folks who are familiar with some of the history of these old places. Thanks for taking the time and for watching.
I was going to stop at the Castle Dome last time I was in Yuma but never did get there. Personally I like the old abandoned places that no one goes to. THanks for watching. Always appreciated!!
@@oldlostminer My pleasure. I'll be watching more as I've become very interested in your content. I want to get out there myself. Expect more from me. Hopefully that's not a threat! 🤣👍🏼
I'd like to get out more myself. Wish I could have had the technology years ago because I use to hike into a lot of old cool places. Thanks for subscribing too. I appreciate it.
@@oldlostminer The pleasure is all mine. Where else can I find such great information about things that I'm interested in like this? You're quite welcome. I don't know if you're into precious metals the way I am but I have content as well. Feel free to check me out. I'll be back soon.

Thanks for stopping by.
Good story. There is a tourist ghost town in that area now.
My bad. That ghost town is the Castle Dome City in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge , not far from your story mines.

Very interesting I had no idea these mines existed I've visited the kofa reserve a beautiful part of the Sonoran desert
Once you start researching old mines, it seems one mine leads to another mine close by. Thanks for watching. New video tomorrow.
