So much effort went into making, what should've been, such a utilitarian item. Rowan, thanks for letting us see what it takes to make such an object - loved this series, a real tour de force of blacksmithing - keep up the great work, it gives us a real appreciation of the works created in the past.
Rowen you sure did a fantastic job making g that chain and producing these videos.I glad you brought us into your world of craftsmanship thanks my friend
I have enjoyed this project so very much, anytime you want to do another multi part project, I'll be very happy to watch every step and be amazed by the intricacies of your work!!!
Rowan, I very much enjoyed this series of videos. I made a special file to keep all of them. I want to make this as I believe it will teach me many many techniques that I want to learn as a beginning blacksmith. thank you for this, and please continue. your a wonderful teacher.
Man, that's gorgeous. I'm wondering how expensive something like this must have been back when the original was made. That's a lot of wrought iron and a lot of craftsmanship!
You Sir, are an Artist. Really fantastic work. It was a pleasure watching you work. Please keep making more such videos. We get to learn a lot by watching you work. God Bless.
Rowan thanks for taking us along on this epic project. Love the final outcome and all the little tidbits of black smithing knowledge I glean from every video. Keep up the good work
Absolutely fantastic, truly inspiring to watch from start to finish. Really great to see someone with actual talent working metal that doesn't just become another oversized pointless machine finished knife. Loved the rust finish, anglo-saxon sreampunk, look forward to your next projects.
BIG congratulations on finishing this EPIC project Rowan - Your a bad-ass uber Blacksmith and I learned a lot - appreciate you taking us along for the ride and looking forward to what's ahead, Booyah!
There's a guy named Gary Huston I sub to also and I've watched all 14 parts of this build thinking you were him , guess you sound the similar! Turned out great.
Watching you with that toothbrush reminded me of something i read a while back. Apparently an old way to polish chain mail was to put it in a barrel with a bunch of sand and roll it around. If i remember correctly it was in a study on child labour in pre-victorian times, and the kids did the rolling. I imagine it was pretty effective. It makes sense that parents would invent play games for kids that also got work done.
I saw a guy do that, but he sped up the process by making a frame to hold the barrel, then spinning it with the rear tire of a motorcycle. It worked pretty well, but looked terrifying.
Really enjoyed this series Rowan! Do you have any pictures of it hung in situ? I'd love to see it holding a great cooking pot in a reproduction long house.
You could take it up to the Sutton Hoo folks and demonstrate it in place. Surely, the curators would appreciate such a thing. Perhaps donate it along with a placard describing the process with a note to your Channel and Forge.
I have greatly enjoyed this series of videos. Very fascinating process. I'd love to know what will become of the Sutton Hoo Chain now that it is finished.
Why do I feel like the "Star Wars" of blacksmithing has just reached the end??. Exemplary work Rowan! Why not forge the pot as well? Cheers to you and the amazing effort
i also enjoed so much to grow this lovely work, thanks to let us be with you working. great job and perfect finisch . would it be posible to see it hangin on a fireplace?
Really fantastic series! I love your videos, and your Anglo-Saxon work in particular. Thanks for showing us all such a wonderful project. For your vinegar bucket, have you ever tried PH-? Its a pretty cheap pool chemical that you can mix up with water to get an acid that's stronger or weaker than vinegar. It works great for cleaning really large and awkward objects.
Great series of videos sir. Thanks for sharing the making of this piece. I just wonder, is this going to be a museum piece? I might have missed if you talked about it before, sorry.
Mazel tov! That was a great series, and you should be incredibly proud just to have finished it, let alone to have made such a beautiful chain. May I ask what you're going to do with it?
People get so excited about knifemaking. They need to get out more often. You're kinda like Samuel Yellin if only he reproduced historic Anglo Saxon finds. Bravo!
Congratulations . A marvelous piece.
For people who love Sutton Hoo and watching a master craftsman this has been a thrilling series. THANK YOU!!

That sir is an epic chain design. Congratulations for taking such a journey. I use the word journey in the literal sense and it’s hippy connotation.
Beautiful work dude. I need to step up my camping game and forge a fire tripod and chain now. Good watch. Thanks.
Truly splendid - well done and thank you for sharing it with us!
Really enjoyed this series Rowan! Do you have any pictures of it hung in situ? I'd love to see it holding a great cooking pot in a reproduction long house.

I could not even do that in ten years...great series...
Really love the series! Hope to see more projects like this
What a magnificent bit of work there.
I have greatly enjoyed this series of videos. Very fascinating process. I'd love to know what will become of the Sutton Hoo Chain now that it is finished.

This piece is absolutely beautiful man!! I am going to miss watching you work on it! What's next for you???
Why do I feel like the "Star Wars" of blacksmithing has just reached the end??. Exemplary work Rowan! Why not forge the pot as well? Cheers to you and the amazing effort

i also enjoed so much to grow this lovely work, thanks to let us be with you working. great job and perfect finisch . would it be posible to see it hangin on a fireplace?

Now you just have to forge a pot, and then cook a really huge chilli in it!
Really fantastic series! I love your videos, and your Anglo-Saxon work in particular. Thanks for showing us all such a wonderful project.

Brilliant work, I enjoyed watching.
Amazing work, and thanks for letting us look over your shoulder as you made this.
Where is the chain headed now?
Temendous project; thanks for sharing.
Loved watching this series ! What will the chain be used for now?
I was chagrined at first, when you let it rust after cleaning it up, but it actually looks quite nice with that finish.
I'm with you. But it is wrought iron after all...
Great series of videos sir. Thanks for sharing the making of this piece. I just wonder, is this going to be a museum piece? I might have missed if you talked about it before, sorry.
exquisite
Wow, just how long did it end up being? Didn't really get the sense of perspective until you had assembled it all.
Never imagined I could be so impressed with a chain.
*(thank you for *not* being a hippy) lol
Mazel tov! That was a great series, and you should be incredibly proud just to have finished it, let alone to have made such a beautiful chain.
May I ask what you're going to do with it?
Nice! I'm slightly disappointed that Rowan hasn't built a Great Hall to hang the chain in.
The Masterpeice is complete. Please share a video or pictures after it is on display.
Where will the chain go now? Cracking piece.
So have you cooked anything with it yet?
Rowan, when are you coming back to UA-cam? We miss you! Hope all is well.
Could you make a drawknife for your next episode? PLEASE?
in my opinion you shall burn the lineseedoil on. for a nice black finish.

People get so excited about knifemaking. They need to get out more often. You're kinda like Samuel Yellin if only he reproduced historic Anglo Saxon finds. Bravo!
