Why Are Germany and Austria SEPARATE Nations (history of Europe)

- Just in the middle of Europe, This is Germany. In the South: Austria. The two countries share multitude of cultural similarities. Both speak the same language and almost have identical laws.
Austria and Germany were once the same country way back. A thousand years ago, all these territories were United as the kingdom of Germany. The kingdom was part of the Holy Roman Empire and consisted of many small tribes and nations. As the Empire caved in around 1800s. The German people were scattered in dozens of smaller states all over central Europe. The Austria Empire was one of them and took the leading role of reuniting all the Germans. All state leaders came together in Vienna and finally came up with a united idea of forming an alliance, The Germany Confederation. It was a powerful alliance were important laws were decided together and they were to be superior to the laws of the states with Austria leading the way.
Today, Germans are Germans and Austrians are Austrians.

Why are you talking about? The map was showing the Holy Roman Empire. Do you know the difference between the Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire?! Maybe you need to brush up on your history 😂
@GxO891 Maybe YOU need to brush up on YOUR history. I was talking about the painting, NOT the map. Geez. The painting had ancient Roman columns and people dressed in ancient Roman garb. Yes obviously I know the difference between the Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire. That was the entire point of my post. Whoosh.
Germans have changed now. They learnt their lessons from the two world wars. Now, I think 2 countries should take a chance and get reunited.
No Austria should stay disunited not too be mean but German are too different from Austria

6:40 Fun fact it was india which under Nehru's (First PM )intervention in 1953 with Soviet Union in pushing stalled talks for State Treaty, that removed Allied occupation and established Austria's sovereignty.

This video is absolute shit with quite of bit of incorrect information. The German confederation was extremely weak and ineffective. Germany is (still) an ethnic nation. You're not just a citizen of the nation (though german politicians are well on their way to destroy it). Elsaß-Lothringen was part of the German empire so the Kaiserreich map is incorrect (also Elsaß-Lothringen was part of the HRE from 870 to sometime in the mid 1600s). And another on incorrect maps. At 4:36 shows an incorrect map of the weimar republic with a much smaller east prussia. With modern eastern European borders in 1919. It was the treaty of St Germain (not Versailles) that forbid austria to be called Deutschösterreich. West/east germany are mixed up and much of the actual eastern germany was lost to the soviet union.

Headline - it is not the same language only the businessgerman. But most germans have difficulties to understand the Austrian-German. Like switzerland they speak also german
