    --------------------------------------
well. I ruined Fluffnugget over the course of about a year. It took a ton of courage to finally get a cut but here's the story of how my hair got tangled, damaged and clipped upside down (I'm sorry). But seriously, I know there are tins of naturals out there who experience natural hair set backs and damage their natural hair or like me have dry natural hair and with the kinky natural hair or the 4c natural hair factor suffer from this a lot. so learn from my mistakes.--------------------------------------

I was watching a video by Naturalicious Beauty. She said that if you have severely dry hair, when you moisturize it, the hair sucks up all the moisture very quickly. So you may think that particular moisturizer or deep conditioner didn’t work, because it got dry very quickly. Sometimes even the very next day. But she said when you are getting your hair used to being moisturized, often times you have to do it much more often than you think you should. So for her, she had to moisturize two times a day for a few weeks until her hair got used to holding the moisture. Then she switched to once a day. Then she was able to do it every other day. That was something that I had never heard in all my research of natural hair, over almost 10 years. I thought it was worth sharing in case anyone else has experienced going to sleep with moisturized hair and waking up with dry hair. I know I have! I’m in the process of trying the twice a day for a few weeks. We’ll see how this goes!

That used to happen everytime i shampooed. For two to three days after i would be adding anything i could find to make my hair not feel like a brillo pad. I just tried cowashing and not only is my hair more moisturized, there is no gunk in it surpisingly.

Don't underestimate hormones. You're the age your body starts changing (mid 20s)... for the worse. So of course you need to change your habits. Eating, hydrating, using lotions and similar, the amount you move... everything needs to be adjusted accordingly, if you want to stay healthy as long as possible. Many things you used as a youth might not help anymore. Of course there are exceptions. But if you have the feeling that things about your body are different... it's very likely that they are. So change the products you use and.do.change.your.habits.

Meanwhile I didn't even make it out of my early 20s with great hair cuz I developed thyroid problems, and now I have many problems with all my other hormones and it has my hair in a mess :( It depends on the person. Loved your videos. Some possible solutions:
    1) I do not like drinking water either. So, instead I drink herbal teas (hot or cold), sugar free powdered drink mixes like Koolaid and Crystal Light. I also drink fruit juice. All of these are water based products. Drink a lot- then you got your water content. Some people drink water with their meals, yes? This is the same thing. I carry my drink mixes with me so that I can mix it in my bottled water as I go out during the day. I also like to drink fast food sweet teas as well. I get the super large size sweet tea. I did find that I do like to drink very very cold iced water. Who knew?
    2) I rinse my hair when I take my shower - everyday. I wash my hair at least once or twice a week at minimum. I just don't like that dead skin, sweat, and daily debris sitting on my scalp clogging my pores. Everything else on my body gets washed so why not my scalp? My scalp gets just dirty as the rest of me. And fortunately, my natural hair likes the water. Most times I use a shampoo/conditioner combo. I like Suave baby shampoo 2 in 1. Sometimes I may condition only then rinse. Somedays, I may use no product at all and a warm water rinse only. I detangle in the shower as well. I comb in the direction of the water flow. Easy. Finally, I use a silk or satin scarf to dry. I tie my hair down and let the material absorb the water rather than fluffing or rubbing on my head. I use a mild water temperature - not hot. Never hot. I also use a water filter designed for showers. I like the reduced chemicals for my skin and hair.
    3) Unfortunately, I found that shea butter based products are too caustic for my hair. But, heavy oils and waxes do great on my hair. The point here is the we all must embrace the uniqueness of our own individual hair. What works on one head may not work on the other. Pay attention to your hair. Be careful. Try anything, yes. but be prepared to back off when it does not work.
Me? Me, I am loving this natural hair journey. The good and the bad. I have 5 -K hair or something. Way, way past 4-C. My hair is not on the charts. My coils are the size of a size 12 font, lowercase "o" in Times New Roman script. It is water repellent. That is, if water hits my hair it sits in a puddle on top or goes directly down to my scalp and flows off my face. My hair strands take a long time to absorb water and a short time to dry. But, I sweat real easy and any stretching I did before I went out goes away in less than an hour or so, depending on how hot the day is. My hair cracks me up.

Have you considered trying mini twists? I've recently started doing them because i've noticed that I also like to do too much with my hair lol. They usually last me a whole week and then if im lazy(so all the time) i'll just take them out and wear it as a twist out for like 3-5 more days. Which equals about a week and a half or even two weeks of less hair manipulation. Also! We need to find you some better moisturizers that last!! Recently my hair seems to like Lotta body curl and style hair milk(very cheap would recommend), taliah waajid curly cul cream (bit more expensive but lasts a while), and aloe vera juice/water. And just massage some oil on your hair and scalp every night before bed (+inversion method would probably help). Love your channel !!

This is the second video i've watched in the past few days that has mentioned (if only as an aside) how running a natural hair channel can ruin your hair because of how much you're overmanipulating it. This is not at all a judgement on you Danielle (get your coin girl) but it did make me realize that there's this weird paradox that comes with being a natural hair UA-camr. On one hand, your hair has to be healthy, long, or aspirational in some way for people to feel comfortable taking advice from you about how to take care of their hair, but running a channel also requires you to manipulate your hair more than normal to keep making content, which inevitably results in some kind of damage. So how does one balance the two? Beats me.

The secret is the youtubers with healthy hair protective style most of the time. Protective style for 4-8 weeks, take hair down, do 5 different styles in a week or two and film each of them, then back into a protective style. Then release one of the filmed videos once a week while their hair is safely tucked away under a wig

People make things more complicated then they need to be. 4c hair care guide- keep protective styles in 70% of the time (box braids, twists, etc) , moisturize hair with actual ingredients not products (aloe Vera, Shea butter, castor oil, etc) , protect your hair at night and in general (silk scarf or bonnet at night, and during the day when not outside) , and wash your hair at least once a month with all natural shampoo. I have 4c hair, and my hair is flourishing with those simple things.

    • @thinkaboutit2099
      @thinkaboutit2099 5 років тому +7

However, I would still recommend cleansing between washes while the protective style is installed. Back in the day, I used to use sea breeze to cleanse my scalp, but there are hair products out these days that are specifically designed to cleanse while hair is in protective styles.

I wish I had someone to tell me everything you just said here years ago. This is the exact reason I lost my hair and i didn't even know it. Where I live, creamy crack and sew-ins are bae, so no one was natural savvy. I didn't know my hair was dry because I wasn't adding the right type of moisture often enough, let alone not hydrating internally but thought I had dry hair -because- I was natural. My scalp literally said off you and let all my hair go. Now I'm not even sure if I can regrow from zero. I'm so happy that you were able to stop you damage from spiraling out of control and had professional help. I pray you and Fluffnugget continue to thrive and be well❤❤❤

For dc i just combine like 10 products together
    Raw african shea butter
Its a 10 leave in conditioner (it does 10 things, including heat protection)
St.helen cholesterol conditioner (EVERY 4c girl should have this, its a classic like blue magic)
An egg, if i need protein (be careful w/ that)
Black castor oil mixed w/ peppermint oil
    Coconut oil
A little Wild growth oil (famous oil, u probably know it)
KNot-on-my-watch leave in. I use it when I take out braids. I put it in, brush my hair, leave it overnight, then the next day i wash my hair. It gets the knots out so there is less breakage and gives my hair a rest before i start manipulating it
Shea moisture black castor oil strengthen and restore mask
My hair has never been more moisturized and healthy. Im low porosity. So i only include protein sometimes. (Rice water, egg)
I blowdry only when i wash, because even if i dont, ill end up blowdrying eventually to stretch. So i just do it so i can get it over with. Blowdry untill its like that dampish feeling, not till its actually dry dry. Let the time u sleep overnight do the rest of the drying. Braid it one night, then bun it one night (push it up into a bun with a black headband, then twist the next. The creme of nature Shampoo argan oil is GOLDEN. Creme of nature leave is also GOLD. Wash/Dc like every 2 weeks

yes girl. I had cut my hair soooo many times in the years between now and 2015 because whenever I got even a remote amount of length, my poor hair care methods started to break down. My hair was always dry, always brittle, and always breaking off so then I just cut all off again thinking that something would be different if I did that. Finally, after my last cut in november of last year I have been seeing my most hair growth, but I have put sooo much time into the hair. Also finding out that my hair loves spray leave in conditioners wayy more than cream leave ins dramatically improved that results. Also I suggest investing in some jamaican black castor oil. I know it has a lot of hype surrounding it, but it really does truly promote hair growth and my hair feels the softest it's ever felt since I started using it two weeks ago. You got this!!! We are with you on your natural hair journey!!

Don’t know if you’ve already tried this, but stop using silicones(!) in any product. They will completely dry hair out (especially high-porosity strands). Use ‘cones only as heat protectant for flat ironing or for doing a “blow out”. Also, u might try “bubble water” instead of “flat water” to help u stay hydrated: I go through at minimum 5 cans/day of Lacroix -brand sparkling water - lemon flavor is awesome. And of course satin scarves are your best friend, in various weights and styles: throw one on your head pineapple-style even when just lounging around the house. Love your channel!

I think that maybe if you would like to still be involved with your hair and maintain it without breakage a twist out could work. A bit of water, Leave-in, cream, oil and gel it could last a decent amount of time before you need to touch it again. Its a lot less stressful on your hair because its not as right. Also, extra care towards your ends could help a lot. Usually when I'm having troubles a bit of extra cream and oil helps keep everything together. Good luck girl, I look forward to seeing your progress. 🗣️ 🗣️ 🗣️

Now, I reserve hair care (I spray down my hair each day with an aloe vera juice based daily leave in) when I'm catching up on my weekly eps and reserve deep conditioning with detangling/manipulation for longer binging that happens one a week after washing or ACV rinses. You are an inspiration for my old head behind lol

Our hair is very similar & this what has worked for me: Deep condition with a heating cap for at least 30 mins. Tee shirt dry for 10 - 15 mins. Right after while the moisture is still in ur hair, apply a good creamy leave in right after & oils ur hair loves (vitamin e with some jbco+ coconut oil works great for me). Use a creamy styler for hold. Retwist in chuncky twists each night or every other night (spray with water as needed). Also remember to balance moisture & protein. It really makes a big difference. & as we all know use a silk or satin bonnet.
Ur hair is gorgeous & before u know it fluffnugget will be back to her full glory!

Your hair looks so cute on you!
My mostly 4C hair was ruined by the As I Am products in the orginal brown packaging.
I used their coiling jelly ,leave in conditioner, and Hydration Elation deep conditioner. Pretty much immediately and a couple washes later my hair went from medium-thick and soft and shiny to crispy, crunchy and breaking off. I know it was those products because my hair wasn't like that BEFORE I used those products, and there are no other underlying conditions that would cause my hair to become like that pretty much overnight.
It even changed the texture of my hair becuase my hair is now very rough.
If anybody out there uses those products and it works for you, that's great just be careful.
I'm not trying to hijack Starpuppy's video, I just want to share information because I always try to to warn people and let them know what happened to me so they don't go through the same thing I went through.
I even saw a post a while back somewhere on the As I Am Facebook page where there were several people speaking about how the same thing happened to them with their hair after using the products.
