NATO typically does not accept countries that are actively engaged in war because of several key reasons: 1. Article 5 Obligations: NATO's cornerstone is Article 5, which states that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members. Admitting a country at war would immediately obligate all NATO members to defend it, potentially pulling the alliance into a direct conflict. 2. Escalation Risks: If NATO were to admit a country involved in an ongoing conflict, it risks escalating the war, as adversaries might see it as NATO's direct involvement. This could lead to broader regional or even global tensions. 3. Stability Concerns: NATO membership requires stability, both in terms of government and territorial control. Countries in active conflict may lack the necessary stability, which could complicate NATO's mission of collective defense. 4. Political Consensus: New members require unanimous approval from existing NATO members. Many NATO countries are cautious about extending membership to countries at war to avoid being drawn into conflicts they did not choose. 5. Conflict Resolution: NATO often prefers countries seeking membership to resolve ongoing conflicts before joining to avoid complicating the alliance's internal dynamics and priorities.

They designed and built a huge, 6 engined transport plane to move the Soviet space Shuttle, the Buran around, or 190 tonnes. That's almost double the capacity of a Boeing C-5. Ukraine designed and built most of the Soviet Navies surface fleet. Ukraine designed and built a lot of the Soviet Unions ballistic missiles, including the SS-18 (NATO designation, Satan). Why don’t we talk about our own failure instead of talking about Zelenskyy? Why did we make so many mistakes? Putin said that this is his war with the West, not with Ukraine. We chose not to hear it. Why did we accept millions of ukrainian refugees instead of helping to accommodate them in western Ukraine? To produce anything including weapons Ukraine desperately needs these people. Why didn’t we help to protect the sky in Ukraine? What happened to our ability to think a few steps ahead? It would be cheaper to start producing missiles in Ukraine, wouldn’t it? Putin is trying hard to raise the production of weapons in Russia. So far he is quite successful in that. Where is he going to use all these weapons? Looking at the way we acted towards Ukraine after forcing the country to give up its nuclear weapons I doubt our ability to protect NATO member countries. Shouldn’t we prepare for war ourselves since we are not helping Ukraine sufficiently to stop Putin there?

Takes two years for a NATO pilot to become certified on the F16 after completing his basic training. In war time for an experienced pilot on another aircraft it still takes a shortened 6 months course to qualify as combat ready switching between different airplanes. Yes, you dont jump into an F16 from a F15 and vice versa no matter how much of an ace you are on 1 type of airplane. Even in WW2 it took a year to train a pilot on relativaly simple prop planes before they were ready for the frontline after they finished their basic flight training.

Annoying though it is, Russia cannot be kicked out of Ukraine completely, without NATO's direct involvement. Ukraine isn't strong enough, and whilst the missiles are striking deep inside Russia, this pain is bearable, and Putin cannot afford to back down.
Complying with Russia"s red lines shows weakness and lets Russia know it can escalate without consequence. Ukraine would be in a stronger position if the west had supplied Ukraine earlier, especially before its counter attack last year. The west should have given Russia red lines.
Fortunately, Ukraine already has the necessary knowledge, at least about guidance and navigation, because it previously produced intercontinental missiles for the Soviet Union.

It makes more sense to provide the components for Ukraine to build their own missiles- completely sidestepping Putin's threats based on the use of German or UK missiles.

Hara-kiri pilots. Great idea.
And ground crews etc. To be replaced with Ukrainians as they become available. Plus the foreign pilots and technicians could be given Ukrainian citizenship (and thereby having dual citizenship)

MAD is a term you should familiarize yourself with. It means Mutually Assured Destruction. So if NATO or England or the USA give these weapons to Ukraine and enable them to launch deep into Russia it means WW3. Is that what you really want? Do you want your family to be vaporized by a Nuclear Holocaust? I don't. I suggest you also ask yourself, who are the beneficiaries of this prolonged proxy war.

I hate to say this, but there's a certain whiff of racism and smug superiority when pundits, talking heads, and reporters in the west talk about Ukraine 🇺🇦.
These people forget about Antonov.
I just feel that western politicians, and the western media write off Ukraine as a bunch of farmers who grow corn, wheat and sunflowers, and that's it.
Their wrong.

Indeed they are doing a very good job of boosting Ukrainian history, capability and talents for warfare.
Maybe you are listening to Pro-Russian pundits.
I don't give them the time of day because they are IMAO evil and depraved.
A man is a man amongst the universe
Show putin the window. And help him out.
Ukraine has an extensive nuclear industry and engineers who’ve previously worked in the atomic arms industry. Putin should be careful.

Only around twelve trained pilots for 85 F16s? I thought I understood that there was an extensive training programme in the UK since BEFORE permission was given for Ukraine to be gifted these fighter jets.
Ukraine has fewer than 12 F16s on hand now. More pilots are still in training. It’s a long process.

Ask an F16 pilot what they think of Russian air defense. I fully expect Russia will turn out the lights and Ukraine is going to be ready to call it a day before they get warm again in 25
Takes two years for a NATO pilot to become certified on the F16 after completing his basic training.
I have said all along that Ukraine can build their own or just change the name on and inside the missiles and fire away ?
Ukrainians are smart and a lot of people forget that before the breakup of the Soviet Union Ukraine had a lot of talent in aviation technologies for example Ilyushin as one example...
As more aid is given to Ukraine the longer the war is prosecuted and the greater the irreparable destruction of the country.

Good ! Ukraine’s innovation is remarkable! It’s time to build their own ballistic missiles!
What's this about Ukraine doesn't have pilots? That's ridiculous..
Yeah - common sense. I figured the US was almost certainly helping Ukraine build their own drones and other supplying high tech components, engineering support, materials, everything else
It is some young Ukrainian entrepreneur who has designed weaponised drones that they are using.
@@AlphaGamer1981 hard to do any tech these days without high tech components … I have no doubt the Ukrainians are the world’s experts in combat drones and can do the innovative design and development. If you use some other group’s tech, you likely will need engineering support. That’s all - not taking away anything from the Ukrainians. US probably has warehouses full of useful components to share is all
So ukraine has gone from gaffa taping mortars to mavics to buildings their own balistic missiles? More like we're giving them our missiles and are too sly to admit it.
I think the time for Storm Shadow has been and gone. Now the long range drones are doing a great job faster cheaper made on site. Moving on.
Drones do a good job but are much slower and easier to intercept. Consistently, drones used against air fields get the ammunition and fuel stores, but the planes almost all manage to scramble. A missile would hit the airfield well before the jets can take off, just look at what happened to Russian air fields in the occupied areas when restrictions were lifted there.
Yes and no, a Storm Shadow war head has about 10 times more explosive than what these drones are carrying.

It annoys me when I hear "but we should be putting the money into problems over here." Yes, the UK has domestic problems but that's not an excuse to bury our heads in the sand. If Ukraine looses, we will be at war with Russia, if not immediately then within a small number of years. If we go to war, the UK will have far worse domestic problems. We need to help Ukraine now whilst this conflict is containable.

The missile that Ukraine has used recently to destroy the ammo depots in Russia, is a cruise missile, not a ballistic missile.
Why does it feel this bloke meandered through his whole somewhat self contradictory analysis to be able to mention he is a former fighter pilot. BTW, Ukraine has already proven it's prowess at developing new cheap accurate weapons and the tactics to deliver them. I think they are now selling airframes to the west. Maybe they will have a tech industry to help diversify their bread basket prowess. This guy seems a bit on the near sighted spectrum.

Annoying though it is, Russia cannot be kicked out of Ukraine completely, without NATO's direct involvement. Ukraine isn't strong enough, and whilst the missiles are striking deep inside Russia, this pain is bearable, and Putin cannot afford to back down.
