An Object Lesson on Giving Thanks

🔋🎲✏Bethy offers an Object Lesson for Kids on Thanksgiving, specifically Giving Thanks in all circumstances, 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Sometimes, we don't know how to be thankful for something in life, particularly the broken, annoying, or the things that hurt. But God has called us to Thankfulness in all circumstances.

Questions for Further Discussion:
1) Is being Thankful easy for you or hard for you?
2) What are you thankful for?
3) Have you given Thanks to God for that thing?
4) What is an area of your life that you have a hard time thanking God about?
5) Why is it important to give thanks?
6) When should we give thanks to God?
7) What are some more things to be thankful for that were not said in the video about an empty Gatorade bottle? or all those game pieces? or the dead battery? or the chewed up pencil? or the sprig of Rosemary?
8) What are some things you can think of at home that you can be thankful for?

Lesson Notes:
Here are the instructions for this lesson, adapted from the "Thankfulness Box" so you can reproduce this lesson for your kids or class.
Materials:
-Box or basket with a lid
-3-6 items from around your house
-I used:
-An empty Gatorade bottle 🥛
-A bag of random game pieces 🎲
-A dead battery 🔋
-A chewed up, short pencil that had been very well used ✏
-A sprig of Rosemary 🌿
-Be creative here... don't pick things that may be very easy or obvious.
-make sure you can give lots of reasons for each of those things.
Lesson:
-Talk about Thankfulness.
-Then bring out items one at a time and talk about all the things you can think of that we can thank God for that item or for something that the item makes you think of. I had shared 5 or 6 ways to be thankful for each of these things, which I recommend for live classrooms, but we did have to cut a bunch of them out for the video (It was WAY to long...😊)
-Make sure that you ask the kids for feedback. Maybe they can think of things that you didn't.
