  • Hi everyone!
It has been a cactus minute since I've posted a new video.
Recently received this box of treasures from a good friend of mine and thought I'd take you all along for the unboxing.
I am very new to growing Stapelia (etc) only a few years in but I absolutely love their flowers!
Please excuse my over excitement in the video, it's not often I get plant mail these days!
Featured in the video are a variety of Asclepiadaceae (the collective name for plants such as Stapelia, Huernia, Orbea, etc)
They are truly fascinating plants which mostly enjoyed a sheltered and shaded area.
I grow them in my usual cactus mix which is very high in in-organics (80% +)
Coming soon will be the full tour of my Stapelia collection.
Hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching and of course...

Your H. Loeseneriana/ stapeliad has black marks, is that something that is done to the cacti to prevent fungus when removing pieces?
I have a drooping opuntia multi colored. It was on my cactus when I bought it from a private owner.

Stapelia in general are very prone to pests and diseases, not such a problem in a colleciton as the pests generally stay confined to the Stapelia and don't appear to travel. Black marks are likely some form of fungus or old healed damage.

Beautiful plants :) very healthy looking.
I love Stapeliads, they have the most intricate sea-life like looking blooms
    ✨🤍❤
One of my favourites is Stapelia flavopurpurea, get it if you can is't also one of the rare ones that smells good sweet like honey. :)
Although I had one of the "bad" smelling ones bloom for me too the S. gigantea and honestly unless if you put your nose right up close you can't really smell it :)

      Thank-you!
I will definitely be looking for the honey scented one, I don't think the others smell so bad unless like you say, you put your nose right up to them.
The flowers are so fantastic a little smell is worth it!
