Played this for the first time with my wife. We did the easy start game and was still a little confused. Watched this and after round 2 with this video it clicked. Thank you SOOO much. We are excited to play more
This video includes what other videos are missing, namely the “walking back” of the player cube function per turn. I played the game the first time without activating each bird in that habitat. It made for a boring experience. This video makes that part very clear. Thank you!
This is one of your best rules videos! Particularly for this game, it made the rules much more approachable than other channels that go into more depth.
From the rulebook, page 10: "you can only use the pink power once between each of your own turns" So it's not just once between rounds as you said (5:50). Regardless, great video, short and very comprehensive, thank you! Keep up the good work sir :)
I recommend watching the video again from 0:50 :) Your turn ends each time you use an action cube. My comment was regarding a different thing though, so let me rephrase it in case you misunderstood. The 'pink power' is a unique quality some bird cards have (highlighted in pink). You can use them once between each of your turns. Another words, if during someone else's turn the requirement is met, you can jump in and do what it says. Once you did, you need to wait until your next turn (next time you use your action cube) to 'reset' the pink ability and be able to use it again. Hope that helps, happy gamin' :)
I loved the brevity of this video and liked how it gets to the core of the game. However one suggestion I might make for future videos is to move the 'how to win' section earlier in the video. A lot of folks I play with ask what the objective of the game is, and I like to show the end of game score sheet, and say "All of this gives you points, get the most to win".
first of all. thank you, finally someone is putting out quick, and to the point guides on how to play games. so tired of hour long videos where the first 15 minutes is channel news. second. that damn pun!
Great video! Clear, concise, and comprehensive in a quick package. I watched a few other tutorials for a more in-depth look at the game, but this is a great intro.
Just wing it. Haha! Nice one! You did an excellent job explaining the game in only about six minutes! I have always loved birds since I was little, so this game is a must for me! It looks very fun, and as a player that loves his engines from trading card games on top of focusing on birds, this game looks like it is perfect for me!
Amazing! We just bought the game. Watched this first, kinda understood. Read the rules and watched it again. The first play through was very smooth! 5/5 game
Great vid. Watched another one that explained the game more in-depth, which was nice, but as far as learning about the game and how it is played, this video was EXTREMELY helpful!
They should totally make editions for different countries using their native/commonly found birds. People would buy their countries edition just because, not even to play it (of course they would play it though). Very collectible.
The conclusion was very succinct. It helped my 11 year old niece play through a game her first go. She had some help here and there, as expected of any first board game encounter, but it's not like anyone expected her to score 100+ points or anything.
Is it possible to put a cube in the "Play a bird" row in a column where a bird has already been placed this turn, when there is already a cube there? Example: on round 1, for my first action, I place my action cube in “play a bird” on the wet lands. For my second action, I “gain food.” Then for my third action, I place my action cube in “play a bird” on the wet lands AGAIN. So I would be placing 2 birds in the same round. Is that possible? Or would I have to complete the whole column (forest, dry, wet) down FIRST, before playing a bird in that column from right to left? Hope this makes sense. Thank you.
If you're not used to these types of games (ie: you're still playing Risk, Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly), this type of tutorial won't do you any good. You should build up to this type of game by playing other intermediate games with experienced gamers. These types of tutorials are also much better when you have the game spread out in front of you. Like many games that are like this (Seven Wonders, Viticulture, Splendor), WINGSPAN is far, far easier to play than it is to explain. If you play the game with an experienced player, you'll be a pro by the 2nd time you play. Don't let this tutorial get you down - WINGSPAN is one of the best games ever made. Everyone in your family will enjoy it.
@@stellardust6954 Agreed. It's funny really, at first it seemed so confusing, then I watched a how to play video followed by a playthrough, and it just clicked. Cant wait to get mine!
Thismis the first game ive ever had to hunt down theee video guides for because the in-box rules are about as clear as mud. Now that ive watched these, I know whats going on and what the provided instructions were *trying* to say, but they are easily the weakest link in what seems like a very fun game.
Sorry to hear that. It can be helpful to play a few practice rounds just to understand and get the mechanics and then reset the game when everyone feels more comfortable with the rules. However every person has their own way to learn a game, and this method just might not click with players. And Wingspan is not for you, don't push yourself to like it. Sometimes the game doesn't work with a player. Just look at Will and Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile.
@@RollforCrit thanks for the advice. I didn’t mean to be rude. I love birds and would love to try this game. I’m going to watch your video again but on half speed 😂
I didn't take it as rude as all! These videos are designed to be quick so I admit not the perfect way to learn. I hope we can at least help with understanding the rules and making sure you do have a great experience!
I want to like it. Between the high cost, the complicated game play and to me seemingly boring concept I do not think my ADHD would allow for me to enjoy this. It sounds possibly like a good game for a school or someone really into birds. Otherwise I think i will look for something else for my clan. Thank you for the good explanation, which I got through in less than 5 minutes by watching it on fast speed. 😄
Wow. I was given this game as a Christmas present a couple of years ago. I opened it and read the rules, looked at the pile of pieces, cards, etc. After watching this video, my eyes glazed over. This is not the kind of boardgame I enjoy; it's worse than a Games Workshop game. Thanks for taking time to explain how to play.
Sorry, I switched to someone else's how-to video that was not so rushed. It was only two minutes longer, but a lot more enjoyable to watch and descriptive.
honestly, this would have been helpful if he hadn't talked so damn fast. A group of friends and I were trying to learn the game for the first time, and this video just ended up stressing everyone out. 2 outa 10, would not recomend
Shouldn't we start with the objective of this game before explaining the mechanics of the game? Explaining the mechanics without a very brief understanding of what the purpose or goal of the game first is pretty much useless. And you talk too fast which really doesn't help. LOL

Aw! Great information!
When does my turn end?
Sorry. Just got the game and watched this video 😅

This was the third wingspan tutorial I watchted and easily the best && just in 6 minutes well done and thank you!
Agree 3000%

Agreed, how to win should always be at the start as it gives all the actions context and purpose

Between this and the EXCELLENT tutorial that is included with the game.. I was able to learn this fully in like an hour. So awesome. Very fun!
Thanks! I was playing the tutorial on the app and was completely confused, especially all the cube moving. Your explanation was very clear.

"Just wing it." Nice.
This game is for the birds.
RIP Norm
Love this short concise video, straight to the point and easy to understand. So many fail at delivering the rules in such an easy to digest manner.
Amazing! We just bought the game. Watched this first, kinda understood. Read the rules and watched it again. The first play through was very smooth! 5/5 game
This is a fantastically helpful explanation of new players.
Thank you and Appreciation.

I came across this game when looking for Christmas ideas for my boyfriend. This video helped me decide to buy it!
How did the gift go over?
Really well done video! I was wondering about cached food tokens and you answered that. Bravo!
Whack-Bat! Bought this as a game for our outdoorsy family. I get so confused in all the tutorials - but this one is great.

They've released expansions for different continents (European, Oceania and Asia so far)
@@davidcoates9294 Oh wow cool! I’ll check out the Oceania one. I’m from NZ.
Best instruction videos on YT. Thanks!
thanks for this! helped make it slightly less complex
Im not english but I can understand it. Not gonna lie without you it will be way harder to understand the game so thx you.
Wonderful explanation in a short time. Thank you so much!!
That was an awesome overview of the game. Kudos!
Wow this is amazing my family were yelling at each other trying to figure it out and I just watched this and told them how to play thx
Returned the game immediately.
Thanks for saving my night.
Amazing tutorial. Thank you very much!!!
Great refresher video. Thanks!
10/10 way to end a video, solid pun 😄👌
This was perfect thank you, you made my day
Perfect refresher, thank you.
Something about the production was kind of cheep though. ;)
I watch again and againt this video just because i enjoy him explaining the rules :))
I Liked and Subscribed because of the puns at the end.
Thanks for the tutorial! ❤

This pretty much sold me on the game! It seems way nice.
This is still confusing!! I'm a grown woman...I should be able to follow this...WTF

This game is simple... After you okay it once, it will make sense. Super easy.

This is how I feel about most games
Same here.
Very helpful, thanks for helping us learn to play this wonderful game!
thank you so much. i was anxious about playing this with the gf tonight lol
Looks a lot like Catan. Like it.
Thank you.
For the Abilities of the bird, to activate do I go in order from right to left or I can go in any order?
From right to left, activate the ability of the bird where the action cube is, after resolved, move left until all abilities has been resolved.
Love this game.
Super helpful, thanks!
THANK YOU!
Very impressed !

Doesn't really explain the cubes or what should transpire at the beginning or end of a turn.
So I shouldn't have got all those owl bird captures, whoops!
Someone pointed out the rules say once between each turn, not round.
Am I the ONLY person who is extremely confused?!
Definitely not
No :))

too complicated good vid though

Probably good but sounds boring
Wingspans AMAZING
Everyone claims its the best game ever. The more tutorials I watch, the more convinced I am I'd rather walk over hot coals naked on UA-cam live.
The only reason why this video is 6 mins is because the narrator is talking way too fast to actually learn this way
This game is badly designed. It needs the game board redrawn and the rules simplified
Yeah. This is a very poor explanation. Perhaps, it might be helpful as a reminder to someone that already knows the game. But. This is silly.
you talk toooooo fast

Next time, try lowering the speed of the video! That way you can enjoy my voice at a deeper, more soothing tone and pace.
I AM A GROWN MAN....this is so confusing....wtheck❤!!! 🕊️
Wtf is this world coming to
Bla , bla , bla . Too fast . You're explaining the rules, not sprinting.
You speak waaaaaayyyyy too fast
this is a terrible explanation and you talk too fast and don’t show enough helpful visuals
I don't find this that good
