Thank you for this. I grew up just across the river from East Granby in Tariffville. Although I visited Newgate several times as a child 50+ years ago, I was never able to see the mine and below ground area as they weren't open then. This is the first time I've been able to see what the mine looks like. Thank you.

cool. i was there as a kid some 50 years ago i have seen the Elizabeth cooper mine in stratford vermont. amd i have ventured in the ely mine on cooperfield road in vershire site. superfund remediation of the ely mine just started an the elizabeth copper mine has finished super fund remediation not long ago..
the newgate prision started as a copper colonial times and the vermont munes started in the 800s and ely stopped 1900 and the elizabeth mine in 1959 before john Fitzgerald kenney took office znd after the interstate unitive started with the Dwight David Eisenhower administration.
