The reason why Edward in the HIT era was almost nothing like as he was is due to HIT writing a character bible for reference that for some reason said that Edward was a pathetic old man who was *afraid* of being scrapped, which is complete nonsense as Edward was never shown with that fear in seasons 1-7, and it seemed that writers didn’t really understand him as they either portrayed him with his character bio, or made him like James (who was probably the only member of the “Steam Team” that wasn’t butchered), almost like that they had to do things with Edward, not because he wanted to. Unlucky Tug best describes his criticism of HIT Edward in his Sodor’s Finest on him.
