To learn a lot more about the ways to setup and improve your home/business network, make sure to take a few minute and review my video that describes all the key aspect that should be considered: ua-cam.com/video/Y1LZhNIJxq4/v-deo.html Also, if you have any questions, please provide a comment here and I will respond as soon as I possibly can 🙂
Hey David liked the way you went over DHCP. Static addresses could be applied to things like printers in an office for example. DORA acronymn is clever way to remember. I enjoyed your conversation on the subject manner.
I use static address on both of my network connected laser printers. I wish I thought of it, but DORA is fairly common when talking about those four messages. Thanks for you nice comment 🙂
Great video. Good review for me since I learned this stuff years ago. I know what's happening, but I don't think about it in this detail unless I'm troubleshooting.
Looking forward to a possible VLAN tutorial and how you might set up a router for this. Interested in why you are happy with the ASUS router as opposed to a dedicated router/firewall such as the Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine and several access points, or even a small form factor PC running PFSense
You are actually 'right on' it is VERY likely I will be switching to a prosumer system as you mention, probably a UniFi version in my next Firewall/Router upgrade in the next two years. I bought the ASUS for the last upgrade a while back (had it on the shelf for a while) to simply speed my 10G transition and to make some videos that more people would be interested in seeing (and it accomplished that purpose). I will be going to VLANs on a slower pace due to a couple of other limiting factors I have on my network right now. However, I can create a 'Getting Started' video on that topic during this new series, as a test run in my lab.

This is going to be lit.
I hope so. I tried to make it fully understandable to as many people as possible 🙂

very well done. Cheers!
Thanks you.
Please do more for these small office/home office networking guides! I am very interested in setting up my own but have no clue where to start
Thanks for the very helpful comment. I plan on doing several of them, so hopefully you will follow along 🙂

Thanks for the great comment Jeremy🙂
Have to echo Jeremy. Good job!
