I drove an international cabover delivering auto parts for Toyota, Mazda in the northeast Boston to Buffalo, VT, ME, I loved, a sleeper, comfortable, very maneuverable, I had to squeeze in some tight spots. I've driven millions of miles. Retired.
Beautiful truck, I love cabovers..I learned how to drive and got my class A license in 1984 drive a 1977 cabover Ford with a 350 Detroit. Trucking was still fun back then
In the late seventies I was driving a GMC General ten yard dump truck when a friend of mine moved to Newport Arkansas and bought a couple of cab overs. I went down and sat in the saddle of a 1974 International cab over with a 400 Cummings with a 13 speed Fuller transmission. Driving in the mid west and south east for two years before I came back home to start my apprenticeship to be a union ironworker. I loved it and sometimes wonder if I made the right choice.
Oh wow, very cool Richard!! Man, where does the time go? I know a few Union Ironworkers and they enjoy and are very proud of their work, so I think you made the right choice. 👍🙂
I freakin love cabovers. My grandpa drove one for Carolina freight pulling doubles and triples for many yrs. Thanks for this one Timmy. I still need to get my hands on the old amt Budweiser cabover kit.
Yes, the Cab overs are really cool Earl. I miss seeing them on the road and in TV shows. I like to watch older TV shows because that's all you see are Cab overs.
Great video Tim, I don’t know which ones I like more, the polished show trucks or the road warriors showing off their battle scars. Thanks for taking us along!👍👍
Thanks for sharing this Tim! I always forget about this show. I definitely plan on attending next year. This provides a lot of inspiration for us model truck guys. Cab overs are always a treat to see. My dad drove them back in the 90s and I have fond memories of going on runs with him.

I started trucking in the mid 70s. Drove KWs , Pete's , IH , Freightliners all of which were cabovers. Unfortunately none as nice as the rigs featured in this video.
My friends dad had a transtar. It had dayton hubs ( look like mobile home wheels) on steers and both drives. I have no idea what year it was. His dad ran it for 6 years all over the country, he eventually traded it in on a brand new pete 379 in 1995.
@@dirkvandierdonck5831 Companies here want the best gas mileage possible and the drivers want comfort. Heck, trucks are being built with an automatic transmission now for them.
Trucks like this made me want to be a truckdriver. Not all the flair and show shit but... not the fancy seats and dash but actual working trucks. As long as the AC works and in the winter these old cab em' overs your feet always stay cold. But something to say about driving them safely. Rhe blind side on that passenger side front is a bitch. And those stupid ass spot mirrors on them really ruins the looks. The best cabovers are the ones where the gearshift never moves when you tilt the cab. Less linkage to mess up. @@THROTTLEPOWER Yeah they were. They are gone now due to "progress". He'll you give a rookie driver an old cabover, even a show truck, 90 percent could not drive them or even climb over the doghouse and undress in the bunk laying down. Forget cabovers even. Those old conventionals to get in the sleeper half couldn't even fit through the hole. And then just a little bunk? But if you sleep too much you ain't driving enough to make money. Deregulation in the eighties opened the door to what we got now. 48 state apportioned plates, IFTA sticker. CDLs, and PTO with half as much pay and way too much time on the road. But... a Condo and auto tranny and hours upon hours of wait time at a dock to load and unload. Everything used to be more fun, challenging and took actual skill to drive a truck than wat it does now.
