FE 350 is such a great bike! Thanks for watching and your kind words! I do love all the trees and greenery in Oregon as long as I don't find myself stuck in it after a wreck. :) Ride on brother!
Just the comparison I was hoping to see, cool that you guys like the 350/501 so similarly. Any idea which bike runs cooler? I'm guessing the 350 will manage heat a bit better. All Austrian 4t tend to overheat in my neck of WA, but a little YZ250FX won't have the resale, power, or versatility of a 350. Not many YZ250FXs for sale with sellers that are willing to negotiate to a realistic price, also.
Great comments and I hadn't thought about it, but you are right about 350 managing heat a little better on trails. It takes a lot of slower trail riding to get much heat in motor and I haven't ever gotten it much over 200 degrees even in those scenarios.
Thank you! We have a lot of fun, as you can relate getting on bikes makes one feel like a carefree kid again even though my birthday tell me otherwise. :) We would love to have you along anytime. Hey John hope you see this question. I have a fe501 and my wife and I are looking at getting her a fe350s like what you have here. Question is does this bike have a lot of vibration in the bars and foot pegs like the 501 does? Thanks and love the videos!
Thanks for watching, sorry for the delay in my reply. I haven't noticed the same vibration in 350s that I noticed in 501 and 690R. The 350s is such a nice bike to ride, I think she will really enjoy it. It feels like it will just keep reving!
Hi Trent! That's awesome 👌 that you picked up a 501, what a great 👍 bike! You will love it! Glad our little swap was helpful. We are using Sena 30K/50s with the mesh network. They work pretty well and are so easy to connect with other riders. I also like how the connection self heals if you go out of range and then back in range. I have a few videos on the install of this system if you want to scan for it in my videos. Stay tuned as I am doing a TM Designworks skid plate install video tomorrow and should have it posted soon. It covers the linkage in the rear so it won't get hung on a tree. 😀 Enjoy your awesome new bike! You will love it! So much POWER!
my current stable is a 890r and a '21 FE 350 with a saw mount here in Idaho, stock tank gets 100m +, no need for a big tank, keep it slim...best bolt on part for me is a TMD skid plate/linkage guard, you won't hang up on the gap between frame and linkage when going over logs and rocks fyi...happy trails
Great bikes you have there, the best of both worlds for sure! Thanks for the info on the mileage, I wasn't sure of what to expect, but because of your feedback will keep the stock tank! I was concerned about hanging up the linkage on that tree and ejecting over the bars. That skid plate sounds like it will be worth every penny! Keep riding and thanks for your positive contribution! Ride on!
I'm thinking about buying one of these fe350s and I wanted to review and somewhere in your title you lost the review in your video it disappeared so anyway
I wish that the FX motor was in the FE350, I have a 21 FE350 with a Vortex and a FMF slip on. It lacks torque compared to FX in a big way. If they built that...... It would be the best all round dirt bike imo
Good feedback! 👍 I haven't ridden the FX and wondered what it would be like. More torque would always be welcome as torque is so useable on the trails. Sounds like you have done the key upgrades already too. I agree, it is so light and nimble and otherwise does everything well!
The Beta 390 might be the answer for someone looking to get more torque out of a 350. Plus, I hear the gearing is better setup for DS’ing. However, Beta is still a niche brand in the US. Next bike upgrade I’ll be looking for something smaller while still retaining torque. My 450X is great but holy cow, it’s more bike than I need!
@@fynn8252 Beta 390 is a good idea for sure, thanks for commenting! I have to admit, since this video I installed a fuel controller, removed reeds from intake and installed a free flowing end cap with spark arrester and the torque is much better, very happy with bottom end now. These bikes come so stiffled to meet emissions.
Have a DRZ and am looking to upgrade to something with a better suspension and a lot less weight. Not terribly concerned with power as I'm fine there with the DRZ, but don't want to lose lugging torque down low. Was thinking about a 500/501, but they sound like a lot on single track. I guess I'm wondering if the 350 has enough torque and is smooth enough down low, but also if I can cruise somewhere at 60 without wringing its brains out. Like the Huskie/KTM build quality better than the Betas I looked at too.
Thanks for watching, all such good thoughts, concerns and questions. As you probably have heard I have come full circle with my bikes to get it right. The 350 has more torque down low than I expected and seems to be a perfect balanceofight weight, agility and power when you need it. On the highway, you do feel the motor spinning more than 500 but on the trails the 500 can be a handful at times. I just put a fuel controller and opened up endcap on my 350 and will post how it is different following this upgrade. I am very pleased with 350 torque and power even before upgrade and I weigh around 190 lbs and like adequate power in my bikes. I am very satisfied with 350 torque and power. I agree with build quality of Huskie/KTM over Betas and I always went with KTM but a friend convinved me to go with Huskie for rear linkage system as he said it feels a tad more plush to him. I went with it over KTM only because seat height is almost 1/2" lower than KTM 350. I still miss orange and black though! The 350 will cruise at 60 just fine but you will notice the motor reving, but it has plenty rev left as if you twist the throttle it will run up to 80+ mph so it has plenty left. 45 min to 60 min or so on pavement before offroad with 350 is fine but if it was going to be 2-3 hours on pavement, I think it would annoy me only because I am used to 690 or 890. My journey years ago started with KTM 350, then KTM 500, then 690, then 790, 890 and now went back to 350 for trails and tight offroad and 890 if more onroad and open offroad. The 350 is hard to beat when the going gets tight, the 500 does everything very well but has a lot of power in tight sections. The 500, however, never felt like it was really reving on the highway though. For me, the decision maker would be how much pavement you need to run to get to trails. 45 min to an hour, 350 would be fine but much for than that in each direction, I might opt for 500. Neither one would be a wrong choice, just slighlty different tools. Jeff, who has the 501 is this video, explained after the ride, if he could do it again he would build a 350 over 501. Such a hard choice! With the 350 or 501 you will definitely have less weight, responsive power and better suspension over DRZ. DRZ is a solid bike though in so many ways! 👌
@@oregonmotojohn If I can go 30-45 minutes at 60 it doubles my riding options where I am in MA. The trails are probably similar to this vid, maybe a bit rockier. Is the throttle on the 350 jerky at all or is it pretty smooth down low? Not in the need for more power than the DRZ, so if it is smooth, I could save a grand on a fuel controller. I really want something great in the woods and I'd love to only pull the trigger once. Thanks for your detailed reply earlier.
@@pilotrpi8634 Cool, I lean towards the 350 for you then as it is a great machine! I feel that the power is super smooth stock even down low. I took mine out, but haven't had a chance to ride it yet since mods. I did keep them so they can go back in if needed.
@@oregonmotojohn Did you make any changes to the gearing or are you riding it stock? Do you know what it will idle at (mph) with the clutch out? The 500 was at 5mph, so hoping the 350 isn't much higher. If I have to shorten the gearing for tight stuff I'd probably lose the 60 mph at the top end.
@@pilotrpi8634 I didn't make any changes to gearing as it seemed to work surprisingly well for me stock. On single track, I found myself in 2nd gear most the time and it surprised me that stock it didn't mind lugging around such as when I would come back on throttle after a sharp/tight corner. I am not sure what speed it idles at with clutch out in first gear, but this is a good question. I can check that and do my best to get back to this thread to reply. First gear is really low. So stock gearing on this bike so far, but when I had my 500 I do remember gearing it down a tad.
