I have an APR tune as an only mod on my 2018 Boxster GTS and you are right it is a BEAST! I owned a 2021 Spyder and it felt slow in comparison. I sold it and searched for the 18 GTS and immediately APR'd it. I had an 18 Cayman GTS I APR'd and regretted selling it.
Some really good points in that vid mate. As a super useable, but great fun daily sports car the GTS is wicked. Shout out to Adam as well, his car was looking super clean and detailed for that vid. Carmine red is stunning to!
Sound in a sports car is far better than speed and that is where the GTS is let down like most turbo engines, even my 2.9 Cayman sounds like a true flat six legend. However the GTS represents excellent value for money for those who prioritise speed over sound albeit with 20 mph London roads, all cars are equal so the sound tells a better story. The flat four engine is an integral part of Porsche history and the GTS carries that legacy giving enthusiast a broad range of cayman to pick.
An APR stage 1 tune actually improves the exhaust tone enough that I really like it now on the 2.5 GTS. It also gets more than 400hp to the wheels with zero other mods. I have done this with 2 718 GTS's.
Amazing review. Having owned both as you know mate, you've nailed every point. on road, the GTS platform is superior, the extra compliance gives you a better experience on road. However, the 2.5 engine just isn't as special as a flat six is and that's the only downside. while PDK is better overall, those manual shifts do make me envy you ha!
I own a 2.5 and love love love it. Surely doesn’t sound as good as the flat 6, that’s a fact. But, it really isn’t as bad as most people make it out to be. It’s a pleasure to drive and sounds great inside the cabin.
Excellent video and amazing comparison, I own a 718 GTS and it is an excellent all rounder!! I live in Berkshire if you film around the area please let me know, would be nice to catch up with you 😊
As a previous owner of both. The 2.5 is actually the faster car, GT4 cannot keep up in a straight line. The steering should feel heavier in the GT4, get the geometry checked.
Can’t compare pdk vs manual imo. I’ve driven the GTS 4.0 PDK and 2.5 GTS manual back to back and I honestly felt the 2.5 was quicker especially with the low end torque being way more noticeable on the 2.5.
I wish you can drag race a 718 cayman GTS 2.5L with 718 cayman GTS 4.0L from dic and roll race and see who quicker. Both stock... I can't find nowhere on the web 2.5 vs 4.0
4.0L is fast and sounds great. 2.5 still sounds good and with a stage 2gts mod they out perform a gt3 over the quarter! Sales are going up on these but declining for the 4.0 due to bang 4 bucks. The next ones are going EV so enjoy these great cars 🎉
Good vid Will. Dont disagree with any of it. Without the GT4 for comparison anyone would think that the GTS is incredible(which it is). However the GT4 the same with everything turned up to 11. What did you think of the PDK in comparison to your old M2c dual clutch?
@@MrHCars I had a PDK in a Boxster GTS before the M2c. Didn’t rate the M2 box from standstill but loved the car otherwise and the box was absolutely fine on the move . PDK rules. Manual is best for interaction. You pays Yer money and takes yer choice I guess. Still enjoying the milltek?
Did you have an APR tune? I have owned 2 GTS 2.5's and a 2021 Spyder. The APR tune improved the throatiness of the sound in my Boxster to where I no longer have plans to make it louder. It doesn't sound anything like popcorn imo and I have had some great sounding cars. The GT4 exhaust is pretty lame imo. I was hoping it would sound more like my 991 GT3 RS which sounds AMAZING.
@@sufficetosayHi ! Do you still own any of these cars & if not what is it that you replaced them with 🤔😅 ? Am looking for a used Cayman Gts , but because of the super-high car taxes on the 4.0 Gts , is the 2.5 Gts a great option such as described by many ? Thanks !

I’ll take my 2.7 flat six over either one of these. I’m slower, sound better, and would rather it be that way than have more power than I’d ever use on the street. If I was on a track, I’d keep it that way as well due to the gearing of these cars being way too long.
Lol at 2.5L GTS owner saying its better than GT4. Ask any GTS owner for straight trade to GT4. And ask GT4 owner if they are willing to trade for GTS. Also comparing with tuned car?

Look at the headrests - one has GTS and the other GT4. Also, look at the trim - the GTS has carbon fiber, and the GT4 brushed aluminum. Both cars were driven.
A simple APR tune on that 2.5 and it’s a beast!
