My laughter from Daniel was immediately halted by "dude who currently doesn't know where he is or what's going on", at 1:10.
Freaky.
😂😂😂😂😂
I immediately came down to the comments to see if anyone else was talking about how weird that guy was
I think he was thinking “Holy shut! This guy is me!”
looks like a mate of his who pulled a funny face on purpose.. he has that comedian's face going on
hahahaha I actually didnt notice him, and I watched back. the face is priceless
Dude at 1:10 is fricken astral projecting or having Vietnam flashbacks or something
I upvoted the other comment mentioning this guy, but yours takes the cake!
Oh shit that made me lol
This explains it quite well actually. twitter.com/DeeLish11/status/1153886223963951104
Perfect meme screenshot.
Vietnam flashbacks ahahahhahhah
I saw this guy in York, England and met him after the show, it was the most awkward interaction I've ever had, but it just made me love him even more
Did you see him at comedy cellar club? I saw him there in November 2021
@@dude4173 I think so, was it the place that was underneath a nice restaurant next to the canal?
@watcheuropathelastbattle6875 I’m not sure it was ages ago
Dude, the guy on the left at 1:10 is killing me. Wtf is that face? Why is he so scared/confused? He looks legit concerned. I'm dead
i would think I went mad too if I heard all those people laughing at nothing ...
He is looking at the "laugh now" on screen.
Guy was funny, you just dont get it which is fine we all like our own, clearly on it for a reason
@@magiccornflake4371 Guess dead pan humor ain't your shtick. Guy was mad funny. Relatable too. Maybe that is why it resonated/was so funny for me
It's jsut how it goes round here. twitter.com/DeeLish11/status/1153886223963951104
Daniel my brother , if you're reading this then i want you to know i'm fu**ing proud to see the journey you've made!
Remembering you killing in London and now you're on Colbert killing it on national US tv !!
You went for it all the way... Your long lost comedy pal from London x
This was sweet!
"I'm here to spread joy. But then I open my mouth, and it creates huge discomfort."
Legend!
1:52
4:40 " I can't wait to hear what he doesn't have to say " i'm dead
little by little me too😂
The far left guy at 1:09 looks like he just remembered he left his kid in the car for the last three hours with the windows rolled up.
"I'm here to spread joy" 😂 😂
BEST
really???
Oh my god that bit about switching from group to group at a bbq just before people get suspicious that you don't actually contribute to the conversation hit way too close to home 😂😂
really?
@@mikee101 Yeah definitely. I don't think I do that consciously mostly, but it still reminded me of my bbq behaviour especially when I don't know many people there
Krystof Dayne LoL.. that was my failed attempt at his ‘really?’ joke xD
@@mikee101 hhhhh gold
You 're invited to BBQs??? My social skills are so to the toilet I don't even get to that point.
As someone with anxiety, the punchline about the mirrors "...so you can look at your own doubt" was funny because it hits close to home.
You're awesome and you should feel awesome!
I'm sorry you doubt yourself at times. The rest of us think you're great, if that helps!
I relate to that dude SO MUCH. I love his jokes, I was laughing the entire time. I wish him all the best and hope he becomes a big star. Also, he should be a droid in Star Wars.
Blak I could relate to him myself also. I think maybe those of us who can relate to him laughed the entire time. We totally get it!:o)) I can so see him in a Star Wars movie!
He is the male version of me 😂 I think that’s why he’s my fave comedian, I can relate to his jokes 😂
Check him out on House of Fools...BBC Comedy...HE is a very popular stand up in Europe...
I relate... gee its almost like he is a comedian who is making observational jokes that relate to people. Thats the whole point. Even Jason will relate to him at certain times.
This hit home for me as well.
I think it might be an introvert thing.
Reminds me of that meme:
"Introverts unite!
... But separately, and in your own homes."
At 1:10 I think the guy on the far left is enjoying this a little too much
thought it was a mannequin
Lol
They must be related
The woman in the middle is really enjoying the performance.
He has too much fun😂
Who will be the first to make the gif of 1:10 guy, that’s a meme just waiting to happen.
stizzlespinizzle A true hero!
It takes patience and skill to pull off this kind of timing. I loved it.
He pulls it off so well, it seems as if it's effortless. But you're absolutely right, this dude is disciplined AF.
Ehh...you clearly haven't been to Scandinavia. Swedes, Norwegians, Finns, Danes...they are all painfully awkward like that...naturally. It's horrifying. The Minna character on Veep is the perfect depiction.
@@Gymnopediea But to create that on stage how Daniel does takes sweat. He's been doing it for 15 years or so.
@@Gymnopediea holy f$#* dude! xD Every other comment I check, there you are, in all your glory, knowing nothing about Scandinavian people ^^
@@callme_Sweetpea Maybe you don't realize how many of you come off to the rest of us :)
Saw him at the comedy cellar 3 days ago. He had every one dying of laughter!
He's describing my party strategy so accurately 😂😂😂
"why was your hand shaking when you reached for the cheese?" lmao
That was so funny.
It's true, too; kids will rat you out like they're facing twenty to life.
I started to laugh immediately after he said he's from Norway and this is gonna be a lotta fun :>
Unfortunately he missed some great opportunities for some Thor and Odin jokes to follow that up. It would have been a lot funnier than the ones about his voice
@@eirikmelum Oh, that's completely fair...I thought this guy was a bit boring. But Minna is a treasure!
@@eirikmelum I think he just feels he has to start off with it. He's got lots of other material that's really funny and awkward and weird and that has absolutely nothing to do with his accent.
@@ArgonTheAware And what jokes would that be?
@@Nimtrix There is a wide range of potential for jokes especially since they have become more popular in mainstream culture from the MCU like how many times Loki tricked Thor, or plenty of materiel from Beebo replacing Odin when he was gone or the old standbys like Thor introducing himself to a maiden after the revels and her replying "Your thor, I'm so thor I can hardly pith!" ua-cam.com/video/dSNje8Afm24/v-deo.html
"Look at your own doubt", haha! Making me proud to be norwegian!
Lykke til videre, Daniel! :D
I loved that line. Absolutely nailed the feeling of looking at yourself in the mirror when you're really nervous. Is he less shy when he performs in Norwegian?
This guy is hysterical. I love him. He made me laugh more than any guest comedian. i hope I see a lot more of him here in the US.
look him up on Russell Howard's Good News
Same here. The first time I saw some of his standup I laughed harder than pretty much any other comedian. However I've shown his videos to some friends and while some were dying of laughter, a couple would barely crack a smile. I think it's a very niche style of comedy but if you're into it, Daniel is freaking amazing
Just saw this air and immediately thought- “I’m watching a STAR hit the earth”. I’d bet everything on Daniel being a household name in a few years.
“I was backstage where there was a lot of mirrors. You can turn one way and look at your own doubt.” OMG!!!! LOL!!!!!
1:09 Seriously, WTF is up with that dude to left lol
he does not get it lmao
He probably has a very thick accent and thinks everyone is just laughing at the comedian for his.
he's the only sane one, not laughing ...
Aww, everyone being so mean to this guy!
This guy is totally me when a comedian starts speaking and everyone starts cracking up in anticipation or something before anything humorous is even said. Me: “uhhhh..... what? What did I miss? That wasn’t even a joke though... wait....”
@Amanda Balder STFU bigot
lol as a Norwegian (in Norway) I’ve never even heard of the guy, but he’s hilarious and I can definitely relate 😂👏🏼
Same 😂🇧🇻
Vilde K Langeland I have more family in Norway than in the US. This guy was great. SO FUNNY
he was part of Stand Up Bergen, but moved to the United Kingdom a long time ago, almost ten years I think. He's been on tv, including a sitcom made by Reeves and Mortimer called House of Fools.
same, and to look at youtube and The late show to find him, and he is from my country.. lol
Brilliant Humor, and we do have weird accent.. but not like this.. so he was not lying when he say no one sounds like him :)
Daniel Simonsen: The guy way funnier than you expected.
Why didn't you expect anything? I can't relate to this. I find introverts and Scandinavians hilarious, so I don't know what you're basing your expectations on.
@@zztopz7090 Not all of them are hilarious. Daniel is very funny.
I connect to this man on a spiritual level
Always loved Daniel Simonsen, so good to see him back performing!
I'm American but now I identify as Norwegian, thank you
He could do a special comedy hour about being shy, good job Daniel!
Norwegian Andy Kaufman :D
Nope, Chuck Testa.
Actually, that's just how Scandinavians are. They frequently say inappropriately direct things and are awkward.
@@Gymnopediea umh... I'm Swedish and I've lived in Sweden all my life. So sorry to shoot down your argument, but that's just not true ;)
@@Gymnopediea Actually that's how a lot of Americans believe Scandinavians are, just like a lot of Scandinavians think all Americans are stupid, there may be a connection there somewhere :D
Totally!
“I’m here to spread joy” 😂😭
This guy is from another planet!!
Indeed sir. The elusive planet Norway.
I didn't think he was funny. Kauffman was funny.
This guy is hilarious. He’s like a combination of Andy Kaufman and Mr. Bean
Did the dude at 1:10 just teleport from across the globe and has no idea what is going on or?
without rewinding, I know exactly who you mean. LOL he was bizarre for sure.
Nice of Colbert giving these up and coming stars a platform to showcase their art. Bravo!
This guy is amazing.. I was crying after he was done. My stomach muscles were hurting..because HE IS SO FUNNY
This is the best Colbert set I’ve ever seen
I bet his friends are more pumped for him to arrive at gatherings than he realizes.
Dude's hilarious without needing to eat up all the energy in the room.
The cut to the audience at 1.10 gives the perfect illustration of reactions to Daniel. One person chuckling, one person in hysterics and one person utterly confused and mildly terrified.
UA-cam: “Colbert posted a video of Daniel Simonsen performing standup.”
Me: “Really?!”
Both sides of my family are heavily Norwegian... 🤣🤣🤣... Now i know where my anxiety and social awkwardness comes from! I can relate to so many of those moments.
As a Canadian living in the Netherlands...This is all I hear. All the time. Not laughing is hard.
Yeah, Scandinavians are all like this guy...and so are many Dutch. I've met quite a few of them...so painfully awkward.
@@Gymnopediea Again, not true at all xD
And your dutch is perfect, I assume..
Really enjoy his stand up. He’s uniquely funny 😆
Stop it. We Norwegians have mostly beautiful hairs from all the fresh air and water we in Norway have. Getting bald before you're 30 is an American thing.
One of my favorite comedians! Excellent job!
The last time a Norwegian had confidence he ransacked England.
Danes did that. Not Norwegians. This guy is funny though
1:09
He's thinking "ooh shit i sound like that"😂
Precisely.
This guy's got the best
dead-pan delivery. Love it!
Ok the stuff about the bbq has me laughing
" I can't wait to hear what he doesn't have to say...." 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 - ROTFLMAO
If the delivery is on purpose, the guy is a genius.
I was seriously expecting him to end the set in a full NY accent.
Comedian: I just came from backstage
Random commenter: Why.. why are they laughing?
I just came from is a common trope in stand up.
It's part of a traditional set up.
Like: 'I just came from visiting my parents..'
Or 'I just came from Canada..'
Or the hilarious 'I just came from the doctor..'
The audience KNOWS he just came from backstage.
He's telling a metajoke, one that most comedians NEVER tell.
It's unexpected, like the accent.
He obviously has insecurities and anxieties but frames them in a new and different perspective, one that even people without those anxieties can understand.
Unless you're too busy criticizing him for accepting applause for his jokes.
Some people tell long stories.
And those people don't do Late Night, where you have 5 minutes to win a crowd.
Don't laugh if you don't want to.
Just don't pretend you get his humor if you're not.
I was just about to leave a comment about the silent dude at 1:10, but I scrolled down and noticed the first two comments were basically along these lines, so... 🤷
so.... comment anyway
really?
Petition for the 01:10 dude to explain what was going through his head. *WE WANNA KNOW!*
"You can see your own doubt." That line got me!
I love this guy! He reminds me of Andy Kaufman as Latka but he is completely original. When he almost laughs at his own jokes it makes me giggle
This is what long dark winters do to a person.
I feel like this comic has been spying on me while I fail at social engagements.
I can't count the number of times a romantic or platonic partner has said to me, "why don't we just leave? You were creeping everyone out hovering around between conversations without saying anything, but now I can't talk to my grandmother until Alzheimer's sets in, because when you finally decided to open your trap, you had to tell the scab story again!"
J. T. Hartzfeld LOL~~~
Jumping from group to group is so true! I'm pretty outgoing and I still feel the need to do that sometimes. Must be all the tougher on the shyer types.
😂 he’s great!! His accent tickles my funny bone
This man is me. Maybe I need to do stand up. I also have a congenital facial deformity and Tourette. I find self-deprecating humor to be therapeutic.
Tuesday’s With Stories brought me here, Thanks for the heads up Joe List !
Same. Tuesgay!
this guy is insanely funny
1:09 that guy looks genuinly scared for his life
Bruuh
This just really made my day.. loved it
This guys is hilarious! Loved it! Thanks you for this made my day!
I busted out laughing! 😂
Saw him live. His awkward comedic timing is great. lol
Stephen please bring him back!
I adore his style of comic
Absolutely hilarious, couldn't stop laughing!
I laughed the entire time.
“I just came from backstage”
The Audience: HAHAHAHAHAHA
This is really funny!
I absolutely love this guy.
Literally 95% of norwegians ❤
This was so good that I just had to rewatch it !!!!
(‘That’ guy to the left might watch it again too.... maybe he gets him)
Props to him for doing stand up haha 👏👏👏
technically he's standing up, but that's about it
@@magiccornflake4371 rob dont get it and that's OK
He was definitely standing up alright! 😂
Best laugh I've had in a long time. Hilarious!
He's HILARIOUS!!! 😂😂😂😎
This guy was in a UK Sitcom called 'House Of Fools' about five years ago, playing the weird housemate and seemed to disappear since, so good to see he his still about. Funny guy.
Most Norwegians can speak English quite well, but we do have a few people who's famous for butchering the English language, if you want to hear Norwegians that actually sound like that without trying you have Thor Heyerdahl, Jens Stoltenberg and Petter Solberg, in Petter's case there is alot of funny interviews where he's language confused :D
@ಠ_ಠ Lol, What the hell are you on about? what's your point?
@ಠ_ಠ unbelievable.
he was a lot of fun
OMG laughing into a pillow so I don't wake up my family
They should turn that guy at 1:10 into a GIF: "when you're the only one who doesn't get joke"
Americans are so sweet, in that they think that Simon is actually hurt by being misunderstood. He might've been while it was happening, but it's more the discomfort of the situation than peoples' actual opinion. Its not like we dont have friends or self esteem. Introverts just dont know how to break the ice with strangers sometimes. Im sure Daniel is perfectly happy with the resulting material though.
Glad to see him again 😄 🇧🇻
Fucking hilarious! This is the first time I've ever seen "shy guy" comedy. Never related so much.
Loved him in House of Fools, such a shame they cancelled that. One of the best comedies of recent years.
I always love his stuff, he's so unique.
I have never seen two completely opposite reactions to a comedian like 1:10.
saw him at comedy cellar - this guy is HILARIOUS
He's the best. Way to go bro
This guy is actually kind of funny
F U He's hilarious.
Norwegian Andy Kaufman!!! He's hilarious and awkward and fun! Can't wait to see where he goes!
😂🤣😆❤️❤️
1:11 That guy on the left just had a serious realization about himslef.
When they showed the audience members I thought it was going to be part of the bit, that dude was hilarious lol
I need a full hour special from Daniel
Anybody else think his fellow ought to be cast, at some point, as the title character on _Doctor Who?_
He has already appeared on British TV ua-cam.com/video/dM7lvTcOcrw/v-deo.html playing the son in Vic and Bob's House of Fools - bizarre humour - cancelled after two seasons - not everyone's taste but if it appeals to your sense of humor enjoyable.
