Yes I understand that only by looking at what I did you can't quite solidly conclude that any gun is or isn't bad on a pistol because for instance someone may get 3 kills with a sheriff but lose the round and they would end up looking bad in this sample despite the sheriff looking good. However, I don't have the time or effort to chart all that so feel free to do it yourself, until then the sheriff SUCKS!
imo jett on defense specifically is fine to go deagle. a single smoke or an updraft isnt as good

@@krazysamurai i'd argue being able to get one and smoke urself, make a one-way on the fly, or retake in a safer manner is more valueable than being able to one-tap people IN THE HEAD with shields. i think ur wildly undermining the impact a jettsmoke can have. EDIT: also much like with the phantom vs vandal fight, if u dink someone long-range with a ghost (and not kill them instantly) their heads are gonne flicker up making it hard for the sheriff player to hit their first bullet on you regardless. and since ghost shoots faster ur more likely to finish the kill in that timespan. ghost is pretty much always better on pistol than sheriff, and i will stand on this hill and jerk off on it until the ghost is nerfed or sheriff is buffed lmao.

buying more utility makes sense in pro games where theres greater coordination, im not convinced this data applies to my solo queue ranked games. i am certainly a believer in the classic, though. thoughts?
Yeah I mean in solo queue ranked games I don't think many things can be said to find constant success other than hitting heads
I agree, it also depends on your agent, playing sheriff as Jett on defence is good because how much value do you get from a cloudburst on a defensive pistol?
i usually play initiator like skye, fade and kayo, i always buy full util on attack and then either ghost or frenzy on defense. I think this can def still work in ranked especially if you can get your duelist to do an early peek off of a flash or something
I'm a dedicated Tarik viewer and he almost always buys the sheriff (Jett one-trick btw)

A very important point of using the classic is that you are able to pick up a gun. And util helps a teammate to win a fight or you get to trade. At this point the enemy does not loyt 800 in form of one player and maybe you lost 800 as well, but now you can pick up a gun and boost your economy. Which means your team is at least 300 creds ahead, maybe even 1100 if you donot need to trade. If you buy shields instead of util it is more likely to be the case of you needing to trade and only getting an slight advantage. Therefore classic no shields outperforms classic with shields.

As an omen main that goes blind, smoke, shield this is kinda sad for the shield truthers. I will say part of it could be the god awful first shot accuracy at any kind of range with the classic
Classic is crazy if you practice it, also light shield omens on pistol round are the bane of my existence

ironically almost all my classic kills are in gun rounds when i have no ammo and the enemy are fortunately close enough for me to spam their head
@@bibbr4137 it can take solid fights up to 20-25 metres, and lots of guns take 2 headshots (especially when you buy light shields on pistol round). Obviously you want a ghost but going classic is worth it a lot of the time because you get full util/light shield

you could also argue that teams that do raid-boss have a player they trust to perform and those teams win more because that kind of player is very valuable in pistol round
This comment is late so it probably won’t be seen, but the main reason classic no shields did so well is actually *BECAUSE* ghosts are so common. If you’re buying full util on a pistol round you’re typically not gonna be the first in, so you can grab a ghost once the dust settles anyways
Data from VCT doesn’t always apply to normal ranked, it’s closer to radiant and high immortal, but in the ranks like: low immortal, ascendant, diamond, plat etc. many people still don’t know how to properly use util, but have aim (above gold). In these ranks it’s way better to buy a sheriff if you have aim than buying util, ofc there are must haves, eg. smokes and flashes but if you play, for example: Reyna or Jett and have the NECESSARY aim to perform but the sheriff, you are gonna be greater playing to your strengths than trying to cope.
Note: even in radiant/high immortal lobbies. you still have a very high sheriff pick rate on pistol round.
the reason the classic with shields might be that low is because the player has less utility to support their team (which is very important in pro play)
i think you have a valid point, but i think it also very depends on which agents i am playing and my team is playing
A deeper dive would also be to look at 2nd and 3rd rounds. Because sherrif is often used in a 2nd round to save some money, which can lead to winning a 3rd round.
Full util, as well. If you die with all of your abilities, it can affect the 2nd round heavily
The only time that I advocate for buying a sheriff pistol round is if you are on Breeze and playing someone with a get out of jail free card. (Chamber, Yoru, Jet)

Okay, it looks like the stats for shieldless classic are correct for attacker side and defender side, so
* Attackers - 73/126
* Defenders - 38/71
Overall wins/total for shieldless classic: *111/197*
56.345%
Ghost also have a ton of bullets in the chamber while the sheriff only has 6
i am a sucker for util and i am glad that classic no shield is great
as an initiator main, i set a rule for myself. if I'm the only initiator in my team, i buy full util, otherwise, i buy either shield or other gun.
I was windering if the data can be narrowed down to eco buys and not include pistol rounds. Because that would also show if sheriff is also a good option in an eco or are you jsut better off getting a classic no shield and having more money for the next round.
Please, do these stats reviews for the best win percentage of other rounds, like force round post pistol win and loss. Best winrate for full buy, etc. Even for each character. Would be awesome!
Me happy knowing I always buy full util when playing initiator on my ranked games except with Gekko
I feel like you buy sheriff if you dont have a concrete plan since its an alright gun all around but if you know what plan you have (eg. push mid, hookah, etc) you can buy a specialised weapon like a marshal, stinger or bucky which all 3 have an area where they are better than vandals

What can you do?
A very simple addition to your analysis would be to compute one average for teams that made playoffs, and one average for teams that didn't. Now it makes more sense to compare between these teams since they're more similar on skill level (sorry NRG)
A multiple regression accounting for the team's ELO and other factors would also help you isolate the impact of pistol choice on the win rate, but at this point you've probably lost 90% of your viewers so I understand that it would not be the most practical thing to do lol

My line of thought for why classic w/shield seems to perform poorly is that you don't gain any meaningful advantages for most situations a player would find themselves in on pistol round. At best you equalize the shots to kill versus a ghost user while maintaining similar util purchasing ability, get none of the situational benefits of a sheriff or frenzy, have less util than players using classic wo/shield, and the classic wo/shield users still have access to the right click. What this data really tells you is at least for players that know what they're doing in coordinated teams, util is simply op.

If pistol rounds were attacker sided I wonder what would happen if defenses stacked a site everytime and just played for retake. They'd probably win if they guessed right but it's still 50/50 so it all comes down to whether the expected value of tgus strategy is higher than the ev of the normal strats

The sample size is also tiny here, and I would have loved to see the confidence intervals for win percentages

Adding up the wins/total for the shieldless classic on each side, its overall wins/total is *111/196*
I just feel that sheriff builds better habits for solo ranked compared to other guns. So I'm just trying to keep it simple with just sherrif & vandal. It seems to be working already with 60%hs on sherrif & 40%hs on vandal.
0:22 as reyna my favorite thing is to buy armor and then head shot people with a classic, I get a lot of shit for buying armor as reyna (usually from the enemies tho)
I think shields + classic can really help in lower elo, because headshots aren’t that common

Grouping Sheriff with Headhunter was a bad idea, because Headhunter allows buying abilities. Sure, it's statistically insignificant due to rare use, but it's better to exclude it than to include into Sheriff.
I would almost argue that classic + shield + abilities might be the best pistol buy regardless of character. Iso shield + vulnerable + light is such a good buy for example
Only character I would argue against is Reyna. The ability to hit a head with the ghost and instantly be at 150 to negate a long range deagle or a double tap classic is too good
some agents just don't benefit from that extra 100 credits tbf

I think the pistol data is somewhat misleading, because even if the highest amount of wins, was classic without shiields, they might have picked up their teammates' gun and took trades that won them rounds, rather than their choice of gun.....
I think what matters here is there should be a mix of guns, rather than which gun is better.

in my opinion sheriff on pistol round is viable on **defense**, you are mainly holding angles which makes it more beneficial as you can 1 tap in off angles, unless they have w util usage. Sheriff on pistol round attack is meh, ghost and util is way better!

Most of the time, u don’t 1 tap with Sheriff and end up spamming body. That is when ghost is better because ghost has less spread and a fast fire rate. As well as more bullets to spam before a reload

You only buy sheriff if youre a duelist and on a map with long sight lines, like breeze. and you dont buy it cause it's better, but because you can get away with it, while collecting style points. if you cant style while grinding the ladder you might as well uninstall.

In attack, sure, you need a smoke
But in defense, unless you are aiming for an agressive pick and will need a smoke to get the hell out, it seems kinda okay not to buy that smoke

Ik ur telling me to stop buying sheriff but with that neo frontier skin i am 100% gona get atleast 1 likely even 3. Im low elo but honestly deserve higher. Last match (silver 1) i got 38 kills and died 11 times while our sage got 6 kills and died like 17 times.

On attack ghost + cloud burst can help you take space on site for your team, or even frenzy + cloud burst

Statistically I feel this is one of your least conclusive videos TMV. Small sample size, disregarding pick rates per map (needed due to the champions map pool skewing results), separating classics with shields from without but not doing the same for other pistols. I feel these all lead to results that are hard to treat with much validity.

I don't think the frenzy has a significant enough difference from the sheriff to be considered usable tbh. Also it feels to me that the light shields and classic are better in my solo q games bc the difference in aim in solo q vs pro matches (more body shots) because the difference between the classic and ghosts against both no armor and light shields is minimal if you are hitting more headshots.
People are forgetting that they are pro players sheriff is still good for pistol rounds
Just offering contrasting thoughts on the research. Wouldn't the kill rate % be extremely helpful in completely telling the story? Simple tallying a kill/death with said pistol. You did great and I am a big fan of your content just playing devil's advocate here.

The first round win% is not why you buy the sheriff the first round. In ranked at least you are banking on the fact it can carry over into the second round so you can either buy op 4th round or full buy third round. Just something to consider. I still think you shouldn't buy the sheriff first round tho
