I'm 48 years old, American, Oklahoma born and bred. Back in the day, yes I knew Kate Bush was a pretty singer-songwriter, but was too busy with friends, partying, my Zeppelin, Sabbath, Pink Floyd and the like. Couldn't be bothered with it and couldn't name a single song of her's. Oh dear God, what profound sadness I feel for what I missed out on then. She is simply stunning, immensely talented and with a creativity unlike any other. Stupid in my youth for not loving this English Rose. Sigh.
But you found her, and that's what matters. xx

Good for you, man! I was a young metal head when my gf turned me on to "The Kick Inside" and "Lionheart". Im grateful to her to this day for showing me this epic music. As a professional musician, I'll say that Kate is amazing beyond my ability to describe.
Similar to me in that until 6 months ago I only knew a few of her most famous songs. She was always a massive star all through my childhood in the 80's but just how incredible she really is passed me by until I was 44. In my youth in the early 90's listening to Nirvana, Radiohead, Soundgarden I don't think I would have been able to appreciate her songs like I do now but I certainly will for the rest of my life. Just the most original and genius songwriter ever imo
Without a doubt. She is superb. All that talent. I realize for some she can be an acquired taste but for me, on 1st listen in 1981, I was enchanted, mesmerized, bewitched...
you name it. She is a genre unto herself.

Just proves you don't need million pound videos like the ones Katy Perry orTaylor swift make. All you need is a lovely song and a talented artist singing to us.
A mark of genius is that this song, like so many of Kate Bush's, does not take you where you expect to go. You see a chord change coming, but it's an odd change. Just listen after "Does it really matter" and "soul, soul, soul".
The fact that she did this so often and made the songs work is a sign of her brilliance.

Not even at the time. I didn't hear this until 1993 and that was IT - every song she ever made was shortly in my possession.

Check Minnie Riperton's Les Fleurs. Huge influence on Kate.
@@elysehfm8797Kate was born in 1958 and came from a very musical family. She was composing songs from the age of 11. Her older brother was in a band and he helped her record some demo tapes in 1972 of songs she had written from 1968 to 1970. Minnie’s album was first released in 1970 though I don’t think it reached a wide audience, it was rereleased in 1974. So, although you could say that there might be similarities, I think it’s at best a coincidence, not an influence on Kate, since her style was already present before riperton released her album.

Kate did list frank zappa and devo etc. If you are referring to forum discussions, they are just opinions and not facts. Again, feel free to share sources. Like I said, I did do a search before commenting and I saw no factual information that backs up your claim.

The modern dancing is a Kate Bush trademark. She's the only music star that really made use of modern dancing on a consistent basis. It's a her thing that she does among other unique qualities.
Kate Bush is a true Fairy Queen. Whenever I visit the Efteling I sometimes close my eyes and then I see her, smell her, hear her.
Kate is part of the magic; fairy tales become true at the Efteling, and they never die.

I never knew Kate recorded anything in the Efteling, and then to think I only live a hour travel away from that park. Still cannot deny the gate behind Kate's back is the entrance of the Haunted Castle ("Spookslot" in Dutch). Even though the quality of this video is not very well I recognised it easily :)

It was 1981 for me, I was a 20 year old American living in Japan and a girl there had a poster of Kate on her wall. Subsequently she sent me home with a cassette of 'The Kick Inside'. This song 'Moving' is the first song of side one and from the opening whale call, the piano intro and into the initial haunting vocals of this beautiful song I was hooked and have been ever since. Kate Bush, you are a musical genius of the highest order, no doubt.

She was the best, forget Madonna and Lady Gaga, as great as they are, Kate Bush was the the original and the most inventive. Way before her her time.
She is absolutely, breathtakingly amazing! A genius of music, vocal, lyrics, and choreography. She is one of a kind, nobody ever came close to even copying her. They don't make artists like her anymore. To me, she and Freddie Mercury were the real essence of music back then and remain such until today.
PS She has the sweetest lips! I love to watch them sing.

To those who didn't know > The Efteling is an amusement park in Holland, wich has Fairythales as it's theme. It still is one of the best preserved parks and has been for years now.
