What Gareth Coker did was make every part of the piece correspond to one moment of the battle, with a few parts that link them to each other.
Then, during the game, if you are killed, say, during the first part of the battle (before the 'escape' sequence' where you change platforms), the part corresponding to that point loops back.
It would only move onto the next part when you, the player, actively reach the next part of the battle. That way, and unless you are a pro who is tearing Shriek apart, you'll get to the final, climatic part of the battle at the same time the track hits the sweet point where both Ori and Shriek's theme's literally and figuratively clash for the final time.
It happened for me and boy! Was it an experience!
      Especially with the ending afterwards.

I forgot that, and each boss fight it's like that too unless the musical theme changes with the restart, but this fight especially the fact it doesn't is SO good.

You do not understand how much I love this song.
Shriek is the name of the antagonist of the game, a malicious enormous Owl, similar to Kuro from the first game - however they are driven by Hatred and Hurt unlike Kuro. A very sad finale considering violence is the only thing Shriek ever knew, and in the end it retreats to the only place of comfort it had ever known; the petrified remains of its parents.

What makes this theme the best final boss theme in video gaming ever is a very simple technique they used. In the first phase its all shrieks theme, its hopeless its dramatic and its desperate, but in phase two you can hear just a bit of ori's theme leaking in as an undertone of hope, and then in phase three its even more obvious until it comes to a dramatic clash of shriek and oris motifs as a final duel between desperation for destruction and hope for life.
    ...utter beauty.

8:21 i love this part from the music, its a remix from the shriek theme and the main theme so ppl get the feeling of "is this the end? do i finally did it? is it done?" a short feeling of hope in the damatic and intense moment in my opinion

What it makes this battle my favorite in the world of video games is how it is built from the first Ori indirectly, and Ori as a peaceful creature that prefers to avoid conflict, at the end he is tired, he is desperate for the context of the moment. He simply goes to Death against the owl in raw fury. A fight where there are no winners and victory means nothing, simply emptiness. It is just perfect. 🔥

Gareth Coker once said something like "Yeah when we made the Guinso Tree(Ori 1, tree escape) theme there was something missing and then I added Oris theme on it" That is something he perfected for all the boss battles in Ori 2. You can hear the dark menacing corrupted monster and the little light of hope, which ori literally is, in those themes

Second part of the song when it sounds heroic is the music when you are actually in second phase of the battle after a classic Ori escape sequence in between. At the end music changes again meaning that Ori might not win at all and it finishes unclear who will prevail at the end.

This is one of my top, "the fight perfectly choreographs with the song" boss fights, next to Darkeater Midir. The ebb and flow matches the rhythm of the fight perfectly, with Shrieks flying going well with the quieter parts/ It feels so good In the game, and the battle of the two motifs that have been established throughout the game is brilliant. With Shrieks theme dominating during the beginning during the chorus(?) bits, and then ori's theme slowly overtaking hers. Still probably my favorite final boss theme of all time, just the way it encapsulates the game so well.

Spoilers for those who have not played the game.
This piece was triumphant and dramatic throughout, but it truly shines in the way it shows how truly DESPERATE the entire battle is. Shriek is known to be a force to be reckoned with, her attacks crack the earth, you can feel the viciousness and the full impact of every strike she makes. She's not just a monster, she's a literal force of nature.
You have to spend so much of this fight on the defensive as Shriek harries you barely giving you a window to hit her back and the part where Ori's leitmotif kicks in (which is normally played during a turning point in the fight for other boss themes) is when you have to flee from her as the very ground itself crumbles beneath you.
The final climax of the song happens when Shriek shatters the last bit of ground you have to stand on and you have to fight her on her terms - in the air without being able to fly as she dive bombs you and LITERALLY CALLS DOWN BLACK RAIN FROM THE SKY, you can hear her theme desperately trying to break through into being the main melody again as she sits in the background visibly winded and exhausted.
And even at the end, there's no satisfying conclusion to the theme, it's just this massive rush of noise that echoes as Shriek tumbles from the sky and crashes down into the earth.
No victory, no triumph, no honour. Just the relief that it's finally over.
Absolute masterpiece of a song, Gareth Coker outdoes himself once again.

My favorite thing with all the boss themes in Ori and WotW (Kwolok, Mora, and Shriek) is how the music starts with a feeling of Ori being scared, hesitant, intimidated, anxious, but towards the end it’s like he’s accepted his role and rises as the hero he needs to be. Shriek is a giant owl born with the affliction of the Decay - the antagonistic force that threatens the forests of the Ori games. Rejected by every living being from birth, and with part of her natural armor plating broken off late in the story by the light spirit Seir, Shriek finally explodes in rage against Ori - starting the final combat by snatching up Seir in her talons and attempting to crush them; knocking over Niwen's life-sustaining tree halfway through the battle; and finally destroying the very ground that Ori stands on, leaving nothing for the player to maneuver except for the falling particles of Shriek's own condensed dark power. To me, the music tells the story of a struggle of hope - first faltering, then resolute - against a blazing misery that wants only to reject it.

As unfortunate as it is, I think it was more realistic in the end; I can't imagine someone easily turning away from darkness if that was their comfort all their life. As an example, I for one have grown accustomed to being alone after years of not having any friends to hang out with - even though I've learned to talk to other people, if I was suddenly asked to hang out, I wouldn't feel comfortable just jumping into it even if I wanted to, I need to get used to the idea first. I also think that if Shriek was saved, there would be people complaining about it being too similar to Kuro's redemption, arguing that it happened too easily and fast etc.

Shriek is an orphan owl who was horribly mutated in the egg because of a corrupting force
Her appearance matches this : she's called the Stonewing because she's covered in stone and she walks by using the stone on her wings like stilts, and it's really freaky
She's alone from birth, cursed from birth, and spreads the corruption that struck her wherever she goes
When Ori reaches his hand to her after the stone around her face cracks, she reels back and flees
In the final fight, Shriek and Ori fight to the death, Shriek trying to drag everyone down with her misery, the fight is gut-wrenching because of all the buildup and the music matched this
And you know what the worst is ? You can see the corpses of her parents in the game and compare their size to Shriek, and she's much smaller ; in human years she would be 12-14 years old, she's just a teen...

Everything from an Angel, to a Demon, Lich, a literal walking swarm of demonic insects, Gold Dragon, the list goes on. But the cool thing about the music is you can tell just by hearing the themes which theme goes with which mythic path. Incredibly well done music.

Shriek is the final boss of the game. She is an owl, (not the one on the cover, that's Ku) but mutated, malformed. Unlike Kuro, the antagonist of the first game, whose motivations were maternal, Shriek's are hate and spite. She was shunned as a child, hated out of fear of her appearance, which made her hate life.
This game's primary goal is to once again reignite the light of the great tree, in a new land named Niwen. However, as we try to, this fight occurs as Shriek tries to stop us. We, the final hope for a dying land, verses Shriek, a hateful, spiteful creature who, due to past trauma, wants to stop him. It's a glorious end to a game I personally consider one of the greatest works of art in the entire gaming industry.
If I may, I would highly recommend you play this game on stream. It is a glorious game, and every second of the soundtrack is just as majestic as the beautiful artwork and landscapes.

Hey Marco, I know this video was posted 19 hours ago so you might not see this, but I just found out something very interesting. Apparently Dark Souls 3 has an unused boss ost called “Crimson Bat” and in my opinion, it’s the best boss ost in the game. It’s wild that this masterpiece didn’t make it into the final game.

Out of all the games I played, War Thunder's new Air Force OST surprised me the most. If you don't know, War Thunder is a vehicle shooter simulation game known for its vast selection of Planes, Tanks, and battleships from the 20s to the 90s, as well as being notorious for being the only game that had players leak real classified military documents for arguments on the forum.
I have no clue why those OST slaps so damn HARD ua-cam.com/video/6NtlNV3MZbo/v-deo.htmlsi=W--VVy4A8tTJP7Wa

Some tracks from the game Path of Exile could also be neat to see you react to. While not everything from the OST is something i'd listen to by itself often, and the tracks tend to be very short, there's some stand out ones for me.
My personal picks would be Legion (ua-cam.com/video/wkFLXBOBJrk/v-deo.html) and Orion (ua-cam.com/video/SRq4T1r2Qlg/v-deo.html)
Since they're so short, if there were to be reactions to them, could probably fit both in the same video

Whenever you play these games, if platformers are not your thing, just skip the race challenges. They're the most frustrating part. The rest should win you over easily with charm and beauty.

Initially was gonna describe Shriek's plot but upon hearing you'll play it eventually I'll refrain from spoiling. She is such a great antagonist, and I really appreciate what moon studios did with her. It's an odd thing to celebrate I realize but Ori games are incredibly good at engaging with deep sadness without losing themselves to it. And that is what Shriek's theme embodies to me; an irreconcilable hurt. Very very few games make me start playing through them again immediately after finishing and I did it like 5 times with will of the wisps.
