  • Bloke and the kiddies go on a tour of the Fischbalmen bunker at Beatenbucht on the shores of the Thunsersee in Switzerland. A small montage ensues, which includes some nice Swiss automatic firearms - the massively over-engineered Furrer MP41 (who needs a toggle lock in 7.65mm or 9mm Para?) and Furrer LMG25 (a toggle-locked light machine gun in 7.5x55).

I like the pedal powered air pumps, so much better than a hand crank.

Thanks, Bloke, always very interesting. I had the childhood pleasure of playing right in the German bunkers on the Atlantic Wall in the area of Cabourg and Deauville while living at SHAPE Village. Paris to the coast is not a long run and we camped just behind the dunes most fair weekends. Saw a chateau on the beach that looked ordinary until you looked inside. There was nothing inside, no floors or walls. A bomb had hit it and blown a lot of the insides out the top. It had, of course, been cleared up by then (1956) but it was still very interesting.

You can visit lots of them in switzerland, and some are way bigger than this one. I still have to go and see most of them.

Did they mention how many people where on duty in there? I see four beds but I'm assuming they had shifts. Just curious, cool video bloke :)

      Bloke on the Range
I think what you meant to say was that true patriotic Swiss men, would never abandon their post and would rather fight to the death using only their bayonet if they have to, than retreat and abandon their post.

On the map you see other artillery ranges. Was there more bunkers build in the side of the lake or was the other artillery range just placed on land?

1:02 Its a sad day when country defence is less important than a rockslide. As with most of these bunkers, the first things that were blasted out of the mountain were the gun position and the ammo storage right behind it. All the other luxuries came later.

Where do you live that invasions are more common than rockslides?
